Spectacular. I'm watching these videos as I resurrect an 82 that I've owned since new. It is 100% minty after sitting sheltered in the SW desert for 20 years so I just can't bring myself to mod it, but the mod'ed one's I like.

Thanks. Yes, let's save the modding and the chopping for the basket case bikes. Have fun on your xv. They are great bikes (except the starter gear)

@@askeviksurf greetings! Love this build. I’m doing one as well. Any chance you could tell me where you got your throttle cable? I put clip-ons onto my forks so my OEM cable is too long now. Looking for the length and brand you went with. I’m thinking I’ll need a 30” cable + or - a few”. Thanks!
@askeviksurf
@askeviksurf 3 жыл бұрын
@@justinlacy8428 I can't remember what I did on this one. Sorry. Now I make my own cables, just get a kit. Throttle cables are easy, clutch ones are harder. Or you can re-run it a different route and get less "over" that way.

I made one in 20mm pvc plumming pipes, to figure out angels, pitch and size. Then I used 22mm/2mm steel pipe for the subframe. 2h of bending, welding, pressing, fitting, and love, bingo.

Did you only cut the lower section off of the headset? At least it looks more easy than enlarging the stem.
@askeviksurf
@askeviksurf 7 жыл бұрын
I cut the extra bit of the sleeve top and bottom. I also got a few millimeters extra here and there doing some routering and shaving. The R1 steering stem are 19mm shorter, so you need to find about 14mm to make it. Easy piisy.

I routered the "ledge" that the race sits on down abit, can't remember how much. I also filed down the bearing abit. there are so many ways to do it, and once you start you figure it out.

Hi brother, great job, ¿did you cut the frame neck for the triple three? I have one of a R1 2000 I think it is better option than lengthening the bar, Mine is a 920 1982 I hope it does not make much difference
@askeviksurf
@askeviksurf 7 жыл бұрын
always easier if no adding just removing material could be done. Should be exactly the same on a 920. Its not that hard, you just need to start and you will figure it out. Good luck.

Thanks. The platform to build on is very important, easiest is a Xv750 1981-83 or xv920/xv1000 same years. They got mono shock and a pretty straight/horizontal line going. These bikes are pretty crap in a lot of other ways though so an engine from a 84 onwards in a 81-83 frame is ultimate. The 85s looks pretty cool as a madmax rat-bopper though. Just look at heaps of photos and vids and choose a style you like. Let us know how you go.

askeviksurf I’ve got a 1982 XV1000 which has been Customized into a cafe racer, but it needs a bit more tweaking, the rear subframe hasn’t been done so the lines are all wrong. Would you happen to have any photos of the subframe you did?
@askeviksurf
@askeviksurf 5 жыл бұрын
Don't have any footage (except what's in the vid). Like all fabrication, it's not easy and if you're not doing it daily it's very time consuming. I used 22mm mild steel tubing and bent it and shaped it to fit with the seat and frame. I offen play with pvc pipes and hot glue to make up shapes and parts. I know you can buy subframes for the xv's online. Think Hagman sells them from his site. Good luck.
