I bought my first Yankee tank like this in the 1960s. When I got back into developing much later, I liked the Patterson so much more but I got me a new Yankee tank for 110. I found the Yankee spool fits in the Patterson tanks without light leaks just fine and then you can do serious agitation, and quickly dump your chemicals.

Thanks for this review, Chris! I have a Yankee tank because it fits 616 and 116 film in case I ever want to develop it. Didn’t know about all the issues you describe so appreciate the info! 🙌🏻

No prob! One *great* thing about the Yankee tank is that it's super compact... which means it will be a lot easier to fit in the trash! 😜

I have two old GAF/ansco tanks and reels. Both work fine without issue. Got one yankee tank and feel like you and it’s inferior to the gaf tanks. Unlike yours, I’m able to rotate the reel most of the time. I’ve had no light leaks. But I have scratched the film. I got this for my occasional use of 16mm film.

It sounds like you have quite the collection of tanks! I was talking with someone who mentioned that Minolta made an old stainless tank for 16mm that's a good option. I haven't seen any on eBay though.

I use a Yankee Master tank, which seems like a much better made product, definitely more in line with AP/Paterson build quality (got it for the same reason, to do 110). You van even shave off the inner tabs and click the Master reels down to fit Minox film.

Thanks so much for the heads up! The master tank does look like a way better build quality (at least from the online images I've just seen) and the reels look similar to the Patterson type. I just picked one up off of eBay. These 3D printed reels work perfect, but they don't ratchet, so I'm looking forward to checking this Yankee master tank out. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Nice, I hope it works out for you! I should say the reels are the same *design* of the Clipper ones, where the bottom of one of them is part of the tank core, but they're made from the tougher plastic of the AP tanks so (in my experience) the click-stop sizing doesn't wear down as it travels up and down the core and snaps in securely.

It looks like a cheap copy of the Ansco/GAF tank. I have one and it's already pretty horrible, so just imagine a cheap knockoff like the Yankee one!

That is an awful tank. Mine had a light leak out of the box. It is a knockoff of a 1970's GAF tank that was actually pretty good. I found instructions online for converting a standard Patterson reel into a 110 reel that is a much better investment of time and money.

Yeah that Patterson reel conversion hack is definitely a better option if you have some extra to reels to do the surgery on.
