I took a surplus military Yanmar L48AE engine out of a MEP-501A 28v DC generator set & made it a 220v AC generator with wireless start & stop. This is my first step of the project to tune & test all the components.

This is awesome man. Great work and a great home you've got for yourself there.

Wow! Wish you were nearer to Reno, Nevada! I need a backup like this for an off grid cabin my wife and I want to build. Thank you for posting! Blessings!!

Thanks for watching, hope this helps you build something for your place!

Adjust your RPMs so that you get around 61 hurts with no load then when you drop the load on you should be right on 60 hertz. Good work by the way.

I no longer have this project. I ended up selling it as it was in this video. Was a fun project, but I ended up getting an MEP-802A.

Love your project. I have an MEP 831A generator that has been nothing but trouble. Recently the inverter died. Motor runs great, and the alternator works. Can you direct me to a wiring diagram I could use to set mine up in a similar fashion?
@CallMeColtLLC3 жыл бұрын
This will be much more complicated on an MEP831A. I'd recommend just replacing the inverter. If you don't want to do that, pull just the motor & put a regular generator head on it. But, it may not fit in the enclosure.

@@CallMeColtLLC I have a suggestion keep that DC head ...get 4 golf cart batteries and connect a 24 v inverter to them....you can lower your rpm so it's not as noisy....plenty of surge capacity....
@CallMeColtLLC3 жыл бұрын
@@offgridmangogrower I thought about it. All this stuff has been sold for a few years now though! Moved on to other projects.

how did you go about the injector pump as they never made one for the L48 engines only for the L100 / L186 engines
@CallMeColtLLC3 жыл бұрын
The one I got said it was for an L48. Maybe it wasn't?
@chris-jb5ds3 жыл бұрын
@@CallMeColtLLC I did ask the supplier of mine and he said the L100 / L186 stop solenoid based pump can be used but they just inject more fuel and smoke more

Where did you get the 12V starter? I'm looking to swap one out.

I found one on eBay. The ones from the Chinese copies will work on the Yanmar engines as well.
What generator head is that and where can I buy one?

Did you have a diagram of this generator?

I did not make a diagram when I made it, I'm sorry.

Heres what I'd do get a 4 pole gene head and run it at 1,800rpm...1/4 of noise last twice as long.
@CallMeColtLLC3 жыл бұрын
Those heads are very big, at least the ones I have seen. 1,800 RPM on these small motors does put out very much power either.
@offgridmangogrower3 жыл бұрын
@@CallMeColtLLC you just have to try it... I also used an Italian diesel pulleyed to a DC motor/generator...for lower rpms connected to a charge controller....the remote start is very cool...was it a universal garage door opener ?
@CallMeColtLLC3 жыл бұрын
It was a generic 4 button remote control from eBay.

@@CallMeColtLLC I just got two remotes for two gen sets…I think a door lock solenoid on the fuel stop arm will also stop it

It is pretty loud but no worse than a gasoline generator.

Those Hour meters on the ole military generators are not accurate, they will randomly get replaced. That motor probably has 500-1000hrs easy!
@CallMeColtLLC3 жыл бұрын
The 28v generators got very little use but who knows.
