It is not that Umar ibn Khattab didn't like Khalid ibn Walid, he , Umar said victory comes from Allah not Khalid. He thought for the faith of his ummah who should only rely and trust Allah. He wanted to preserve their faith

Abu Ubayda (ra) mashaAllah as a Leader decided that Khalid (ra) must keep leading the battle. This shows his potential as a great Leader as well. Because maybe he would have had another plan and since he got the post of leadership he could go to Khalid (ra) and say: "Listen brother, I am in charge from now on, I have a better plan."
