What type of yarn are you suppose to use.? I really want to try this hair style, but I don't want to use any ole kind of yarn that won't last.
@Afropunkie8 жыл бұрын
+Dae Dae23 Any yarn is fine as long as it is 100% acrylic. Wool yarn will just lock your hair. Red Heart is the most popular brand for yarn braids/locs I've seen. In this video I'm wearing Crafter's Secret acrylic yarn because they had the colors I wanted.

@Sixxdee95 жыл бұрын
Acrylic is the best option. Some other yarns can actually dread your hair for real.
@homegurl19846 жыл бұрын
I was wondering, do you recommend a certain type of yarn?
@kymadams38956 жыл бұрын
homegurl1984 I crochet so I recognized the yarn as red heart super saver, it’s a 100% acrylic yarn found anywhere you can buy craft items such as Walmart or Michael’s. Hope this helped

Hi Can you tell what kind of yarn you using how many bundle you need thanks
@Afropunkie8 жыл бұрын
+Melissa Shinnied Im using the 100% acrylic Crafter's Secret yarn. I think I used two average yarn rolls but it all depends on how thick you want the braids and how long so I would just buy at least 3 to be safe.
@AndizzleXO8 жыл бұрын
How would you maintain the locs for at least 3 months? I'm headed on a 3 month trip and don't want to mess around too much with my natural hair.
@Afropunkie8 жыл бұрын
+alex b I've definitely rocked yarn locs for 3 months before and it held up pretty well. I kept it fresh by redoing the front maybe every few weeks and making sure that I kept my scalp hydrated. I would wash as often as you can to get rid of any product build up.
@AndizzleXO8 жыл бұрын
How would you suggest washing it? This will be my first time trying it so this will be a bit of an experiment for me :)
@Afropunkie8 жыл бұрын
I would wash it like any other braids or locs. Just make sure you rinse very thoroughly because you dont want any build up in the yarn. Yarn tends to soak up a lot of water so you will spend a lot of time ringing it out and trying with your towel.

How many time you can keep those yarns ? thank you !
@Afropunkie8 жыл бұрын
+Doloriann Treize yarn locs last a long time. I think I kept mine for 2 months. But I would say it can be worn up to 3 months with maintenance and even longer if you take really good care of your hair.
@pinkmarkermedia788 жыл бұрын

@Afropunkie7 жыл бұрын

Hey, girl! You are so pretty! I love your locs, the color is just the best. I want to ask how long do you keep yarn locs/braids? I've been using braids with fake hair 'cause i live in Brazil and there's no colorful hair to braid around here, and i would die for pink/purple/blue braids! Do you think braids with yarn work well? (sorry about the giant comment) Have a good day, darling!
@Afropunkie9 жыл бұрын
Larissa Soledade aww thank you! =) I absolutely love yarn braids. It's a great protective style. I usually keep mine in for 1 1/2 -2 months but they can definitely last for a while as long as you take care of it properly (frequently oiling and moisturizing scalp + washing to prevent product build up). I say you go for it!
@kissmesalander9 жыл бұрын

@akashasosin8 жыл бұрын
how well do you think this method would work on other textures of hair like white and asian
@Afropunkie8 жыл бұрын
+Mikayla Mae (Mika) That's a good question. I've never witnessed it being done on white and asian textures but I definitely think it's doable. The rough texture of the yarn may overcompensate for the lack of grip on silkier hair. So when you go to do the wrapping method it should stick to the yarn braid underneath pretty well. I would definitely start out with maybe two strands of yarn to catch the hair so it doesn't slip off and then build from there. You might have to make the braid underneath longer to make sure that your hair is locked in if your texture is really silky and tends to unravel. I would love to see a tutorial if you decide to try it.
