@@worlore1651 M4 Sherman crews suffered a 2-5% casualty rate during ww2 M4 Shermans may have been inferior on the "tank trifecta" in contrast to German tanks but usually had the advantage of better visibility, safety, reliability and general ergonomics(especially with the crew doors) that made them known as rugged and effective machines by their crews.

@@jerrysmooth24 They were not even in that bad of a place with the "tank trifecta". The 76mm did its job well. The tank was well armored. The biggest two issues when dealing with hostile armor was at first the 75mm was used because they at the time thought it was "good enough" it wasn't and later the lack of HVAP for the 76mm for dealing with the cats. Combine that with survivability, reliability, ease of logistics and ease of use and the Sherman is the closest we have ever seen to a true world beater tank. It really isn't a world beater but it is the closest.

@@worlore1651 All of those things except the last are NOT true, just old boomer tales that were passed down and just believed without a second thought. Most of which were stirred on by a man by the name of Belton Cooper, who did not serve in the tanks, but instead retrieved abandoned and destroyed shermans during the war and repaired them. Shermans, thanks to both ease of use design and safety doctrine regarding ammunition stowage had some of the best crew survival rates in the war of any tank in spite of it's flaws.

At 2:48 a hand grabs the soldier and pulls him back behind the tank. This saved his life as the panther was just about to fire. If it would have shot with him standing next to the muzzle break, the blast deflected by the blast would have probably killed him. Thats why on the M4 (76) sherman and M18 Hellcat the muzzle break optional but not required. Some tank had them while others (like the M4A1 (76) "In the mood" did not). Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦

Amazing untold WW2 story. Put a widely considered "weak" tank like the Sherman in the hands of a capable tanker, and it can even become a killing machine. Imagine how many more kills he will get if they gave him a Sherman Firefly 😁

Regular Sherman (M4A1) already great enough to attack infantry and fortifications, it's in par with PZ IV G, if both tank meet up, the first one that shoot will win

something tells me he wouldnt have liked the firefly considering the 17pdr made the turret really cramped and he was a giant for the time

@@sirloserlot5084 mate, 6 foot 3 is damn large, im six two and its tough finding cars that are comfortable. a military vehicle where they dont give a donk about comfort, yeah, id hang out the turret too. back then theres legitimately no way a man of that stature is serving the air corp or the navy, so tanker sounds next best if you wanna get on the front line in a force multiplier role i suppose. he did very well with what he had and exemplified more courage than most will ever know, tip your caps, buy a beer and toast a man such as he, for the world may never know them again.
