I've been to many a pig slaughter and it was a time of celebration and appreciation. To this day, I have a hard time eating the pork products in stores after getting the freshest there was to offer when I was younger. And we always knew who raised our pigs guaranteeing good wholesome pork. I made stewed apples tonight for supper. My grandson got them for me from up around Mt. Airy. He went to the orchard and picked them. He's only 6 so I cherish them all the more. If you have a bumper crop of acorns then there'll be a plenty season of squirrels in the spring. Have a good week my NC garden sister.

I always wanted to serve my time at jury duty but was never called until I was older and Ill. They dismissed me then so I haven’t served at all. Bow hunting is a good sport !! The steps look so good and I know you will be proud of them come planting time and planting time. I remember hog killing days from my childhood. Both grandfathers and grandmothers came to help. I hid until the worse was over. My aunt always had canned sausage and I really loved it and she cooked it knowing it was my favorite breakfast. Hot biscuits and sausage gravy.

Boy howdy do I appreciate a good functional gift. A gift that can be used well will always remind me of the thoughtful giver. My daddy used to say, "The problem with stuff is you have to find a place to store the stuff, you have to maintain the stuff, you have to remember where you put the stuff and sometimes you just have too much stuff. " Mostly, he was right, but there was certain "stuff" that he sure enjoyed. The simple stuff! I sure do miss him. This time of the year he would randomly send me the most beautiful pictures of colorful trees, always singular in each picture. He sure enjoyed each individual specimen, one at a time. Boy do I miss that. Thank you for the snippet of the beautiful trees.

We always canned sausage in the Ozark Mountains. It was so good. The sausage you buy now is not seasoned the same. It can't even compare. We raised our own beef, pork, chicken, and raised a huge garden. We made hominey from field corn, and made sourkraut and dried apples on big pieces of tin. We also had pecan and walnut trees. We had our own eggs and had a milk cow and also churned butter. We pretty much had everything we needed. Great memories.

I am 45 but grew up very rural on my grandparents farm ❤❤❤ hog killing time was always very cold weather, I remember my grandpaw and uncles doing up the hog outside while my grandmaw and aunts were working up the meat inside, the old sausage grinder mounted to the counter top, they divided up all the meat and either canned or froze everything. I remember there was always a big meal afterwards of sausage, livermush, rice (cooked with milk and butter), eggs, and loads of biscuits and jelly. We’d all sit down and eat together like it was a holiday or Sunday dinner. My grandpaw loved pig brains scrambled with his eggs, which I cannot imagine eating!! I am absolutely sure sausage and livermush do not taste as good from the store.

Your garden space has come a long way in the last 12 months, Tipper. I remember last Fall, as you looked forward to the 2023 season, you hoped to expand the growing area by eliminating lawn in places. Not only have you done that, you created additional grow space on the slope with those lovely raised beds. And, despite having a challenging summer, your yield was quite good. Another season gone by, as we look forward to the next. Have a wonderful week.

I’m watching, but my heart is with Granny. Let us know what is appropriate for us to know, how she is. Zinnias were my beloved mothers favorite flower. We lived on a large farm in Va., passed down by generation after generation. Wished I could have known my ancestors. We filled our fire places with golden rod until we started fires. Now those are some steps.💯✔️ Great love story between you two. 🙏 for Granny and the treatment. She’s tough, don’t ever deal her out. Thank you Tipper.

The steps look really nice; well done. Matt is a good craftsman, and so nice that you can do these kind of projects yourself. My Dad enjoyed things like that too. He would say it doesn't look like s/thing you could get in a store but it'll work. Each one of his projects are a treasure to me, now especially since he is gone. Such a beautiful bouquet you made for your Mother in the special pitcher that belonged to your Grandmother, that will surely brighten her day. I do remember her in prayer for success & healing of the treatments and restoring rest for e/one. Enjoy hearing all of your stories, the trees and the colors are really beautiful.

My granddaddy raised hogs near Spivey’s Corner. One of my earliest memories was blundering into the electric wire around where they lived. We had a country ham every year and sausage. He’s been gone for years now. Some time ago I bought some sausage that tasted just like the sausage from his pigs. Made me cry. It’s funny how a taste of something can take you right back to a time long gone.

I spent years and MANY hours in the woods in my healthier days. My brother n law pretty much taught me all I know about hunting and a lot about life in general. I told my sister/BF, many times, you woulda never found any better than him. But also still say the same to him about her. You remind me of him a lot. On a recent Q&A, when Tippy didn't hardly get the get the question asked, and you answered deer LOL 🤣. I miss those days so much. Regardless of health, after it gets in the blood, if NEVER LEAVES! I always got to tore up to do very good. But I've got enough great memories to last a lifetime. My second deer that I killed was a huge 10 pointer. The tenderloin has always been my favorite too. I'd love to find your video about how you mix tenderloin w/bacon and other stuff. It sounded delicious when you mentioned it in another post. My brother makes the best jerky of all time, by just using a deer leg. I think he only uses 2 other ingredients. My mouth watering now lol GOD BLESS

We always had hogs when I was growing up. I remember daddy hanging them up on a frame. Several of his friends would bring their hogs to daddy & help him trim out theirs. I remember daddy putting salted hams in the smokehouse. I always helped mama as she would hand grind the sausage, pat it into patties and put em on parchment paper & fold it over as we made a row, then we'd put the patties in freezer bags and I'd help her carry all the bags to the freezer. I would see sausage in my sleep after that!! Worse than digging taters!! But, my that sausage & gravy & biscuits mama would fix in the winter was so good!! I really miss having a big garden, hogs & cow & chickens. Nothing like being able to live like that & never worry about food when we'd have a big snow!! We're trying to work things out here. My hubby is still not doing well. He developed an ileus and is being treated for that. He's pretty much bed-ridden but therapy does come in & sit him up on the side of the bed and has him do leg exercises while sitting on the bed. I'll be going to his care plan meeting on Tuesday, his 100 days are almost up at rehab so I'm not sure what to expect. I fell again in the kitchen today & no one was home for me to call, but I finally managed to get myself up pulling a chair out from the table. I still can't figure out how I fall using my walker. Course it just rolled away from me & caused a gash thats now a huge bruise on my right arm. Some things I still just don't understand. But I have to continue to put my faith & trust in God and pray He will direct our path. Please keep us in prayer. Praying Granny does well with her treatments and doesn't suffer any sickness. Praying God blesses her with speedy healing & removes all the cancer! Hugs and blessings from VA! ✝️ 💗🫶🙏

We just had our granddaughters 11th birthday party here at our home. We are exhausted sitting here looking at each other, wondering when did we get this old 😊 but so worth the noise laughter and, of course, the football games ! Having our family means everything ❤️ ♥️ The steps look great, Matt 👍

You might think about railing on the steps, as you get older you'll see the wisdom. Continuing to pray for Granny and you're sweet family, so happy fall is here , was life-sucking hot here in Mississippi
