I love that you recognize that Mitch is actually using his head voice instead of a falsetto. Most people assume that because he's singing so high that it's a falsetto. No. Mitch just has such a trained and amazing voice that he can maintain his head voice at the top end of his highest register. Also, I think this is Scott's best performance out of everything I've heard from them. He really shined in this. Love his clear tone and range. Absolutely beautiful.

And his Italian was well pronounced, for an American. Most Americans don't know how to roll their "r's". Ask anyone that has ever heard the average American try to speak Spanish. Scott nails the Italian here, for the most part.

The bridge part with Scott and Kirstin and then with Mitch and Kirstin leaves me breathless. This might be one of my favorite arrangement moments they have ever created. It's genius and SO effective. Like you said, the way they created this tension with slowing down that one line is so freaking smart. And with the light coming in and those gorgeous belts and harmonies it really feels like they take you to heaven.

One of the iconic recordings of this is with Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. Thus, Scott was singing in Italian. Pentatonix has outdone themselves…..so beautiful.

This outdoes the Andrea Bocelli/Celine Dion version both for production (to be fair, they simply stood and sang) but also for vocals. Five people making as much sound as the orchestra and the singers, but also telling the story. Far more inspiring. I love Andrea Bocelli and have for years, but this version upgraded from the original. Scott is singing in Italian and Mitch is actually translating again like the original. And don’t forget they will do this live on tour. One thing especially good about PTX is they never record anything they can’t do live. This was the first song released on their newest album "Evergreen" for the Christmas tour 2021. There is a video on KZfaq somewhere of the making of this video and I am sure it was indoors. I am so glad I found your channel, just popped up on my feed. I enjoyed your reaction/review.

One of my Mom’s favorite songs. It was played at her calling hours before her funeral. I can’t get through it without sobbing. Golly, Mom…i miss you SO MUCH. Dedicated to the memory of one of the strongest people I’ve ever known, EL 1935-2012.

All I can say is that, they're ALIENS! The human voice cannot do these things. The human voice cannot surpass the angels. This has quickly become my favorite Christmas song of all time and fighting it out for a top 10 spot for ANY kind of music. I'm setting here in shock, with tears and goosebumps all at the same time. Truly a blessing!

The Prayer was written by David Foster and Carol Bayer Sager for the movie The Quest for Camelot and written for Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli (which is why Scott started in Italian, as Andrea did). The two most famous versions are the original with Dion and Bocelli and another with Celine and Josh Groban. How Groban got there is one of the great stories in music. Bocelli was stuck in Europe and couldn't make the rehearsal for the Grammys and David Foster needed a stand-in for the rehearsal with Celine. He called a vocal coach friend who recommended a young 17 year old Josh. Who initially turned it down because it was too high. Foster wouldn't take no and Josh did the rehearsal, and the rest is music history. And I'm sure David Foster would be thrilled with this arrangement and performance of The Prayer. There may be another performance of The Prayer at the Grammys coming up soon. This time, PTX.

Operatic! THAT'S the word I was looking for to describe Scott. We've heard his lower baritone range before and his power is usually in the upper part of his range as he approaches the tenor vicinity. But THIS! This is power that is moving with force and different than anything I've heard before from him. It is simply stunning. Honestly, it reminded me a little of Avi. "Well done" to the group, as always, and thanks for your reaction.

There is a video they created ‘behind the scenes,’ that shows the set they created for this video. It was an indoor set, so they could really play with the lighting, etc. It’s definitely gorgeous! This group is so freaking amazing, they continually blow me away. My favorite group ever.

Most definitely, but you have to check out I Saw Three Ships on the new Christmas album with this. That is a masterclass in arrangement as well. Definitely Grammy worthy.

I believe this is just done on a set but Scott is singing in italian!! I absolutely love his singing in another language! Mitch’s gorgeous voice laced over is even better!

This is from a 1998 animated film called Quest for Camelot (weird) and was first performed by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. To my ear Scott's Italian is very beautiful (and Mitch is beyond perfect.)

This song is on the new album they just dropped last week. The album is called "Evergreen". They are going on a Christmas tour in the US starting the end of November through a few days before Christmas. Many of the songs, including "The Prayer" will be performed there. Sorry you won't get this in Europe, but they are coming to Europe in the spring. I hope you can attend.

This was a giant song... both in vocals and star-association. The original was performed by Celine Dion (Mitch!) and Andrea Bocelli the Italian opera singer (Scott). It was also how Josh Groban got his start. It's been covered by a ton of other people... but not like this ❤😍❤

Most beautiful version of The Prayer I ever heard. Mitch, this is your song, you were ment to sing it. And Scott, you blew me away with your Italian and opera voice, loved it, You all were fantastic in bringing this song to the best of can be! Tears of emotion listening to it. The first time I heard this song was on quest for Camelot the animated movie I think it was a Disney or pixar movie. I loved this song so much that I picked it as one of the songs played at my grandpa's funeral. It's still one of my favorites and holds a special place in my heart. Pentatonix did amazingly on this one.

I cried thru the whole video. I was so glad to see Mitch sing the first solo. His voice is truly a gift from God. Then Scott singing the second verse in Italian…Wholly Cow.Then Mitch and Kristy just set this on fire. Last but not least give it up for Kevin and Matt who holds it together.Best performance I have ever seen from them. If this doesn’t earn them their 4th Grammy I don’t know what will. Just so beautiful…..Judy D

Such a great reaction to a stunningly beautiful song! Kevin and Scott in separate livestreams talked about how incredibly hard the arrangement of this song was…even bringing in Ben Bram (sp idk?) to help. Whatever the case, it was well worth the trouble!!! Mitch’s angelic singing throughout, Scott’s Italian, Scott and Kirstie’s duet, Kirstie and Mitch, Kirstie, AND Kevin and Matt making it ALL come together…just WOW!!! Only PTX….Did I mention Mitch’s Angelic voice throughout…lol! Thanks for a great reaction, and I, for one, did appreciate your comments on the lighting. Subconsciously I was aware of it…thanks again.

Italian; great reaction! This is one of the most beautiful things I have heard and seen. It is in studio. 5 voices taking the place of a full orchestra and 2 of the greatest vocalists on earth (Andre and Celine) is just stunning.

I had to smile when you said you'd already covered a lot of their songs, nine or ten at least, and you were surprised that you could still be so--surprised. Those of us who have been fans since the Sing-Off in 2011 will tell you that the surprise never goes away. They just keep getting better and better. With almost 300 videos on KZfaq (some documemtary), you have a lot of surprises in store!

I simply love your enthusiasm! Because I feel exactly the same while listening to Pentatonix. Especially with this remarkable song - it's pure classic. Scott sings in Italian. Listening to opera in Italian took on a completely different meaning. Italian is considered as one of the most melodious and melodic languages, so many composers and artists have used Italian for their operas and also operettas. And Scott sings in remarkably good Italian - he doesn’t pronounce it in “American way” - but in Italian! Exceptional. They are all exceptional, again PTX top notch! Again! Great reaction - again, bro. 👌💚

I loved your reaction so much!! And I LOVE Scott’s voice in this (and Mitch and everyone else too OF COURSE!), I’m so glad you really took the time to appreciate it! Kevin actually said that Scott was singing at the very top of his range for this one, and he just puts so much power and emotion behind when he sings that I love it sooo much!! And the Italian…wow! This is truly one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard! 💙 And I highly recommend their whole Christmas album that this is off of Evergreen, it’s amazing!

Our church choir had an actual contra tenor for years. They are rare and amazing. Not falsetto, he was awesome at the high end of his range. Like Mitch.🎵🙏🏾

I agree with your statement "so much going on!" I never heard the key change before you mentioned it. Apparently this song was written by Canadian composer David Foster. Thank-you for reaction, which has helped me to have a deeper appreciation of the arrangement!

This brought all the emotions. I have already seen it about 15 times, but your reactions, just brought more love for it.! I was pretty sure it was a very well decorated sound stage. My clue, is you can not see their breath when singing, so it was not cold. That is what I watch for in any 'snowy' scene. Thank you for continuing to react to Pentatonix!

Hey there, it's not the first time I watched one of your ptx reactions and I really like how you have the musical background and are able to comment on it! As a complete Pentaholic for at least 8 years I absolutely love this song! And I could recommend so much from ptx, you could do like a year of content xD But if I'd just get one song that I'm allowed to recommend you it would be Moon River from Jacob Collier. It is with over 8 minutes a longer song, but it's definitively worth every second. It has won a Grammy and to be honest, I've never heard such amazing harmonies, not even if you go back to classical composers. Since you have a good knowledge in music, I think it would fit perfectly to you! It would be great if you'd respond whether you consider reacting on it or not! They did a live version of this song on the recent iHeartRadio christmas special. I think it's even more special than this produced version. Without the background layers it really highlights their incredible voices. You should definitely check it out!

Scott is singing in Italian! Folks downthread have already done a great job of explaining why. It looks as though the intent of the video was to have them lost on the woods (which is suggested by the lyrics) just before dawn, and then the sun starts to rise as they all sing the bridge together. As my skeptical engineer husband noted, the snow must be all CGI - Kirstin's hair, in particular, should be full of snowflakes if it were real or artificial snow in the studio.

Hello, Bonjour, Guten Tag and Buona giornata......(English, French, German and Italian). I just love your reaction to this song. It is one of their best ever, in my opinion. I am French Canadian and am fluent in both English and French, a bit of German and Italian. Scott is singing in Italian as this song became a huge hit by Andrea Bocelli (Italian tenor) and Celine Dion. Even though they are two of the best singers ever, my ears and heart belong to the Pentatonix version at this point. I see below that someone has already mentioned this but what the heck...here I go. There is a "behind the scenes" video for this song. Kirstin talked about how they made the outdoor scene on a sound stage. Kevin didn't like the first take because he had too much snow on his face. Then again they did "Bohemian" outdoors from midnight to 6am. They are dedicated musicians.

This was amazing. Was originally written as two solos in 1998 (English by Celine Dion and Italian by Andrea Bocelli) for Disney's Quest or Camelot and later as a duet by the both of them. there is a video of behind the scenes for this video...and believe it or not, it is filmed inside in a studio....with a snow machine....incredible..........yes, Bocelli and Celine did the most famous version, but this one is the best I've ever heard!

Many people have covered this song but the best known are probably the two versions with Celine Dion - one with Josh Groban and one with Andrea Bocelli.

Before I heard Pentatonix cover this song, my favorite version was by Chloe Agnew, a member of Celtic Woman. She was 15 when she first performed this. She has a pure voice just like Mitch.

This is the best cover I have heard of the prayer. An amazing cover is also done by Marcelito Pomoy on the Wish bus. Check that out if you have never seen it. Considering you did not know the song, you probably have not.

everyone sleeps on scott and praises mitch but scotts has always been my fav, he has a lot of range and rasp and grittiness and i love it. also matt and kev held it down
