The lyrics are almost the same as the original, but she changed one of the stanzas into a sort of bridge that the original doesn't have. I think it is a masterstroke.

We all wonder if Sohyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such _POWER_ it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself, with the input of her in-law family and musical assistants, teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks five languages: Korean, English, French, Vietnamese and Chinese, as well as reading Greek! She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all eagerly worked with her when they were in Asia. She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Sohyang is a Korean gospel singer. She does all her own arrangements making each song she sings hers. She speaks multiple languages, is an author and teacher. I am so addicted to this version of You Raise Me Up from this phenomenal woman. I can tell she's speaking from her gospel roots, her personal experiences and her desire to let the world know about her journey and her gift of sharing it to the world. Its gorgeous! Another performance of hers that I am currently listening to is Bridge Over Troubled Water - its almost like an accompaniment to this song. Uplifting!

This particular version of the song by So Hyang is something completely unique. She made the song her own. Moreover, she made a completely new song. And if you consider that So Hyang sang when, after pneumonia, the doctor even forbade her to speak, the price of this performance becomes very high!

What makes this Master Class performance even more impressive, is the PHENOMENAL So Hyang IS NOT well here. Earlier, she had been released from the hospital, still recovering from one of her numerous bouts with pnuemonia. Her physicians advised her to cancel the performance, to not speak, and to just rest. So Hyang did not want to disappoint the audience. Also, she believed her singing career was going to be over. Last month, So Hyang tested positive for Covid19. Due to her compromised immune system, it could have been serious. It appears she has fully recovered, because there are KZfaq videos of performances from this month. So Hyang is sounding better than ever, and looking more beautiful.

SoHyang arranges all of her songs herself. During this performance, you would not know it, but she had full on pneumonia, and was told by a dr that day to not even speak. But with weak lungs and a bad throat she did that. That song is low for her. She has extremely high upper register. She can sing Christian, which is her main genre, but all Pop, jazz and even rap. She was trained so well she can sing anything.

Sohyang is a South Korean gospel singer, cancer survivor and author. Due to her health and faith you won't find her on any large label and she has no social media so she she can be hard to find, but once you have found her... She has mostly spread past SK via KZfaq reactions like your own and us fans asking for reactions.

Thanks for your enjoyable and appreciative reaction. Sohyang is a devout Bible-believing evangelical Christian. She selects her songs carefully, even when the songs are not explicitly religious, because she thinks that if she sings the song in a certain way, her audience can feel that she is singing about the Father. In this performance, she put her faith into practice, because she had to rely on her Father, because she had a bout with pneumonia (she had them frequently due to a blood transfusion she had while being operated for uterine cancer where she had to have both ovaries removed). She actually just got out of the hospital bed to do this performance against the doctor's recommendations, and after the performance had to go back to the hospital. If you listen carefully, you can hear a bit more "wind noise" in her voice than her normal performance. Compared to some of her performances, this song was much less demanding because there are not so many notes at the top of her vocal range. She has said that the most demanding song she has ever performed is a Korean inspirational song called "Everyone". In that performance she demonstrates most her strengths as a performer and singer. My favourite performances of hers are "Wind Song", "My Soul Magnifies the LORD", "Breathe" (from the show called King of Masked Singer), "Fate", and "Arirang Alone" (yes, the translation sounds awkward, but the performance is fantastic). Other songs she composed are "Until the Day the LORD Returns" and "The Day When Sunlight Kissed Me" (There is a similar translation of the title, but it is the same song), which is about the day she dedicated her life to following Jesus.

To me, Sohyang is the best female vocalist. Please watch more of her performances. Another one that is worth to know is Forestella. YB, Sohyang does all of her own arrangements of music, chorus, orchestra, and staging for TV and stage performances with assistance from musical family members and the cast. She lectures on music and voice at University. Although this was stunning, she was not well at the time. She will surprise you every time you see her. Not only is she beautiful, she is a beautiful person, AND you cannot appreciate the depth of her performances if you can't watch her. Welcome to the wonderful world of Sohyang. Cheers.

The guy enjoying the song was Michael Bolton, he made the song famous prior to Josh Grogan. So Hyang does all her own arranging, She’s a gospel singer and a born again Christian. She has been offered many contracts from the West, but turned them all down. She just wants to sing for Jesus and to make people happy!

Why is everyone sure this is a Josh Groban's song? He is just one of the performers, and not even the first. The man often featured in the video is Westlife's lead singer Shane Filan, who also sang the song, and with as much success as Josh Groban. The world is not limited to the USA.
