Semantics really since it ended as a warning but I can see where you're coming from. I like to look at it this way - I live in a college town and pedestrians are struck here quite frequently as the roads downtown are tight and the traffic lights are frustrating. All it would take for this situation to turn into a tragedy would be for someone to begin to cross the intersection assuming traffic was halting. And no amount of right in my book is worth someone laying out in the road with their head cracked open bleeding out - also I think no matter where you are in the USA; squeezing the lemon in front of LE is begging for at *least* a contact to make sure they're not DWI - which he did.. and use it as an educational stop.. which he did - but 6 mos. expired plates? He's on duty here he does have to do his job!

Rules for THEE, not for ME, remember that. Cops live by a different set of rules than the rest of us.

These will be the first cops to unconstitutionally come after you and your rights when there master's tell them to. They have a quota to meet and family's to feed, this is how they chose to make a living.

@@brandonnonya3680 we have no "master's". We serve our citizens who elect leaders to create laws for them and hire us to enforce those laws, even if it applies to them.

that's true, it's a yellow light one. Which is a state law.

"traffic facing a yellow signal shall stop before entering the intersection unless so close to it that a stop may not be made in safety." Slamming the brakes if its close to the intersection could present more of a hazard than just simply riding through it. Speeding up can qualify as an evasive action. So long as its not violating the speed limit. The language tends to confuse a lot of people, both the public and cops alike. Its supposed to be, and has always been, the rule of thumb here "If you CAN stop safely, do so. If you CANNOT, then proceed through." You're not supposed to slow down in that case given the nature of the evasive action. In this case its gray area because it was a stale yellow light just after a reduction in speed limit (from 35 down to 25), so the operator would already have been slowing down before the intersection, there should have been very little reason to speed up. The operator was driving an SUV which have slightly longer brake times. She could have a viable argument for fighting a citation if one is issued, but as far as situations go that warrant a yellow light violation, this definitely qualifies as "plausible." Its a tough one. Id say a warning was the way to go. Good for the officer to show compassionate discretion there.
