I'll be visiting YK in 5 weeks. I'm so excited as I've been fascinated with YK and the NWT for a long time.

"The City of Yellowknife", part of the series "Sketches of Our Town." The video, hosted and narrated by Harvey Kirck, was filmed in the fall of 1991. It depicts Yellowknife past and present, and includes archival material, and interviews with residents Michael Borden, Dave Lovell, Barb Cameron, Walt Humphries and pilot Jim McAvoy.

I think I saw my green Mercury Bobcat (Ford Pinto), the first car I purchased in Yellowknife.

A most enjoyable film. I noted a wooden boat at 20:51, just behind the tail of a Cessna 185. Anyone know if that boat was called GiGi at one time? The hull, if it is GiGi, I built in 1963 and then sold early that summer to another guy who finished off the topsides, and named it. I built another a few years later, calling it Kon-Tiki-Too. Always wondered whatever happened to those boats. Anyway....good to see YK of the past, though we left in 67. Great memories.

This looks like an awesome city! It has an impressive skyline for a city that size. This is indeed the true north at its finest.

Wowzers, this needs to come with a warning that that is the most one-sided depiction of Yk possible. Just call it an ad for the old mines, because it was sure not the Yk I grew up in.
