The last full scale eruption of the Yellowstone Supervolcano VS the last super-eruption of the Toba Supervolcano. Which was bigger? In this video we will discuss the size of the Toba event and it's consequences. Volcanologists formed the "Toba catastrophe theory" that may explain the dwindling of the human population about 70,000 years ago. The Toba eruption has been linked to a genetic bottleneck in human evolution. The lava creek eruption of the yellowstone caldera is about 3 times smaller than that of the Toba Super-eruption. Watch the video for more details on these two mega-colossal eruptions.

Toba is a fascinating caldera. I visited it in 2010. If you imagine the circumference of the lake being the face of a clock, it took me a full day ... of relaxed driving ... to cover from 3 o'clock to 1 or about 12 o'clock. It's cool thinking that I've driven on the edge/ridge of one of the biggest volcanoes that have ever erupted.

It is why people want to eat a big Mac with a Coke at McDonalds. Quickly satisfy the hunger, but not the needs of the body. I am not satisfied with junkfood. Just mentioning the controversies and the general knowledge, without going into the details and specifics is like scientific junkfood. After all, the Toba eruption is where the human race origionates from. Don't you want to know more details? Probably not. Junkfood science is very popular but it remains junkfood science.

@@juanmam.2113 The actual biggest mountains in the world áre volcano's. Mt Everest might be the highest peak from the sea-surface. Measured from the foot to its top, the Mauna Loa Shieldvolcano that makes up the largest part of Hawaii's big island, sizes óver 9km in total height, from the oceanfloor, and as it's caused a depression on the oceanfloor, its total size, counting along its actual foot in the crust, is over 17km in total height. Unlike a mountain or stratovolcano, which are spike-formed, a shield-volcano is more of a 'raised bubble'. several dozens of kilometers wide. DEspite Mauna Loa being the 'highest' mountain on this planet, its still dwarfed b the Tamu Massif, in the pacific ocean. Which 'only' measures around 4.1km from the seabed, yet its a frightening 350km in diameter.

The most potential like Mount TOBA is Mount Merapi, which is located in the province of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. That's because the Asia Pacific tectonic plate is right on its path. Mount Merapi is active continuously every 5 years or less than 5 years since its existence, and according to several researchers in Indonesia Mount Merapi is not yet at its maximum activity point, And that will happen until Mount Merapi erupts at its maximum level, But researchers do not know when it happened ..

There's an interesting theory about the Toba-supereruption, and why it was so terribly vast! Researches believe that when Toba 'blew up', it didnt vent out of its top-craters, but out of its side, the biggest explosion actually causing a large part of the mountain to get torn out (like 1.000x what happened to St Helens?), which caused the entire mountain to become so unstable, it collapsed.....Collapsed into the Caldera, creating a magmatic overflow. There is evidence of 'smaller' forms of flood-volcanism during the Toba-eruption, and the magma-chamber being overflown with a volvanic mountain, kinda fits the scenario perfectly. The 'island' inside Toba-Lake is just what remains of the tumbled volcanic slope nowadays.

These are the sorts of disasters that our best and brightest minds should be working to solve. Politicians (not our "best and brightest") love to argue about climate change, but there's no talk of how to survive a supervolcano or stop an asteroid even though both events are inevitable and much can be learned in the process as it was in the first space race.

@SpaceLover-he9fj
@SpaceLover-he9fj 2 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to burst your bubble, but it is possible that Toba was bigger than La Garita. New studies, specifically a paper named “The magnitude and impact of the Youngest Toba Tuff eruption have extended the volume of the Toba supereruption by 3 times. The most common estimate for the eruption is 2,800 cubic kilometers in volume,with La Garita’s eruption being 5,000 cubic kilometers in volume, (Both in dense rock equivalent, not actual ejecta) but these new studies have estimated the volume of the Toba supereruption at 5,300 cubic kilometers in dense rock equivalent, or more than 13,200 cubic kilometers in volume! since the La Garita supereruption is only about 10,000 cubic kilomters in actual volume (5,000 cubic kilometers in dense rock equivalent), the Toba supereruption was probably larger. The volume estimates for the Toba supereruption also range up to more than 6,000 cubic kilometers in dense rock equivalent, so it is also possible that it is also larger than even the Wah Wah springs eruption of 5,900 cubic kilometers in dense rock equivalent, or almost 13,000 cubic kilometers in actual volume. The new volume estimates are so large than some scientists classify the Toba supereruption as a VEI 9, an order of magnitude larger than the other supereruptions! There are reasons to doubt these estimates, but it shows that the Toba supereruption was likely much bigger than thought.

2020 is sh*t it’s not going to blow. Yellowstone only has about 6%-15% of molten lava. For it to be a super eruption you would need a bare minimum of 30%. Most likely 50%. Even if there was an eruption it would be a small one.

Twisted T yeah I totally get what you’re saying, what I’ve researched was it had much more than just 15% and the magma is only 600ft under the ground which is damn close. They say you should start worrying a little bit when it’s 6 miles underneath so it’s a big difference. But I hope you’re right and honestly there’s really no telling when it’ll erupt so I’m not so worried anymore as of right now just cause I have no power over it. The Farsight Institute remote viewers saw Toba Eruption as a man-made event. An ancient advanced civilization, possibly Atlantan, attempted to dig a tunnel through the crust to the molten magma below, thinking they could control and use it for energy. They underestimated its power and unleashed a gigantic eruption of magma, which caused massive tidal waves, almost destroying humanity. It’s an interesting theory, for sure.
