8 ай бұрынOlvera Street is a historic Mexican marketplace in El Pueblo de Los Ángeles, the birthplace of Los Angeles. It is a vibrant and colorful pedestrian street lined with shops, restaurants, and historical landmarks. Olvera Street is a popular tourist destination, attracting over 2 million visitors each year. Olvera Street was founded in 1930 by Christine Sterling, a preservationist who wanted to preserve the history and culture of early Los Angeles. Sterling worked with local merchants and artisans to create a marketplace that would resemble the streets of old Los Angeles. The street was named after Augustín Olvera, a prominent early resident who lived on the street. The Avila Adobe is the oldest house in Los Angeles, built in 1818. It is now a museum that exhibits artifacts and documents from the city's early history.

My grandfather was kind of a fixture on Olvera St. He played and sang at La Golondrina during the 50s through early 70s. He also had a shop at the very end right by the cross, Lalo's Leather. He passed in 1987 but I have such great memories of Olvera Street

I'm so glad you featured this as my family and I visited when I was a kid. I still have it on my list of places to visit next time I'm in LA. The last time I was in DTLA I visited Union Station but it was getting close to Rush Hour so I didn't take the chance to visit Olvera Street then. Next time!

Thank you for sharing. It's always fun. I remember since I was a child. I usually visit twice a year when I'm in SoCal. I expect to be there around Christmas time. I'll take Amtrak to Union Station, just a block away. Folks living in SoCal should know that there's easy parking in the (State Park) lot on Main St just across from the Plaza.

Luv going to solvers st had the best enchiladas ever in80 went back and they were terrible it’s gone down hill. Never ever go on weekends. The food is still good and some great…just pick wisely. If u see a lot of people lined up it might be good.

I'm from Vienna/Austria and the house I'm living in right now was built in 1800, so it's a bit funny to me that the oldest building in LA stems from 1818 (California is somehow very fascinating to me, I definitely want to visit/ have only been to the East-coast, I'm enjoying your content a lot, one can really get the general vibe of the place by watching it while listening to your commentary!)

Olvera Street has turned into a “Tourist Trap.” However, the Chinese American Museum and the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles ( IAMLA ) are FREE. TK

Olvera Street = Crunchy taquitos & guac. After that the best thing to do is get crunchy taquitos & guac Also I understand that down at Olvera Street the crunchy taquitos & guac are supposed to be heaven!
