My father was an instructor in Taky Kimura's Jeet Kune Do club (Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute) that Bruce Lee founded in Seattle. I've never heard this story from either my father, or Taky. My father would have loved it if it was true, because he had always laughed at Steven Seagal's movies and considered him a martial arts phoney. So I suspect this is a made up story.

They went to School together from 5th-8th grade then Steven Siegal went to Buana Park High School and my friend went to Fullerton High School. They used to call him Sego like the diet drink because he was skinny. My friend's other friend who I know. His older brother taught Steven Siegal how to play the Guitar but Steven Siegal will never tell you that. My friend said a lot of things Steven Siegal has said are exaggerated. Steven Siegal never had enough training experience to beat Bruce Lee. Steven Siegal had his own Martial Arts Studio in the early 1980s when he was much older. There is a video of Steven Siegal's students talking about him about how quick he is showing the students in his Studio training. Steven Siegal was a shy kid and kept to himself. He used to smoke and somehow got to the Donut Shop first and was leaning up against the wall with a white shirt on his cigarettes rolled up on his sleeves wearing beetle boots looking cool with my friends wondering how he got there first. There is the one where he learned from this old Martial Arts man which is not true because he would have been 16 years old at that time and still living in Fullerton CA. when my friend was still hanging out with him so that story is not true.

So Bruce decided to only use his kicks agains Seagal, he wasn't even worthy of Bruce Lee's full arsenal. My guess is that Bruce was toying with him, this was Bruce in his absolute prime. You can usually tell how good and dangerous a fighter is, based on a combination of physique, toughness, conditioning, pain threshold, speed, technique, power, size, fearlessness, brutality, and mental toughness. The “softer” a fighter is, the more likely that they are not very good…

He was fast. However, he was a little man. He could have been the best in his weight class but he didn't fight competitively so we'll never know. To be clear, when he was a teenager he was in one tournament and won on points. That's the only official fight he was in. He wasn't a professional fighter. He was an actor in martial arts films and also taught Jeet Kune Do which he created by taking elements from various martial art disciplines. Steven Seagal has never been in a tournament, and is a legend in his own mind. Like Bruce Lee he is an actor in martial arts films and also teaches martial arts. Neither one of them was ever a professional fighter.

Being both a fan of Bruce Lee and Steven Seagal...(and Van Damme Chuck Norris and others)... I have never heard this story until now. I'm still not convinced it's true. I would need to hear other confirmation from other reliable sources before I'm convinced it's true. Contrary to what nearly everyone else opines on the internet (nearly everyone seems to be a "Seagal-hater" or believe that Seagal never had any martial arts skills whatsoever), I actually do believe that Steven Seagal was 'legit' and was a very good martial artist until the early 2000s...at which time he became fat and slow. I feel that Seagal's movies until the early 2000s were very good and that Seagal's personality and his "Aikido" are very unique and interesting to watch on the 'big screen.' Yes Seagal probably has overrated himself a lot throughout his career...and in a real fight with Bruce Lee...like nearly all other martial artists...Seagal would probably have no chance against Bruce Lee. IF Seagal could get in close enough to 'grab' Bruce Lee with his Aikido 'grasps,' he might be able to do some damage to Lee, but that's a big "if." Lee's kicks and punches would almost certainly be too fast for Seagal to counter or block and would prevent Seagal from getting into close range where he could effectively use his Aikido against Lee's "Jeet Kune Do."

I heard about a guy doing that coming to Bruce's house and demanding a challenge but it was at night and Bruce was so angry because of his children and he's wife so he went outside and destroyed him and the man was not moving he called an ambulance for him and got in he's car and went to his friend who was the producer in he's early movies so he told he's friend about what happened and he was that scared that he killed a man but the man was still alive. So you have Segal going to Japan and Lee going back to Hong Kong around the same time period...and also would put a meeting around 71 when Segal would have been 19, and had not yet "trained in Japan" and seen the Bruce Lee movie in Japan for the first time.. Bruce was 12 years older than Segal...Segal went to Japan at some point between 71-73..and returned to California by 1974 (Bruce died in 73) ..moved back to Japan and married in 75..Bruce Lee had moved his family to Hong Kong in 71, to film movies..

I'm going to be hated for this but Aikido is a legit style, it's just a purely defensive style. Any form of offense whether it was striking, throws, mentality or exploiting openings, has been weeded out of it to make it a better tournament specific style. One where you are expected to keep your opponent safe opposed to hurting them like in a fight. And Segal, well you can tell just by the way he moves that it's been years if not decades since he actually trained.

This did happen, my Uncle was one of about 20 people in Bruce's beautiful backyard that day !!!!!; There were many witnesses from the backyard that have talked about this and laughed !!!!!! But at the time Steven was young and he still had room for improvement !!!! Over the year's Steven got pretty good, but he was always a step or two lower than Bruce in his prime !!!!!!!!

He advise them to open him up & that "you will find a bullet in him". And apparently, they called Seagul back & admitted that he was "amazing" because he somehow knew that there was a bullet in him. They lost their son, which is inconsequential of course; for the most important point is that Steven Seagul was right. He knew that he would die, how he died, & that he is amazing. Not only that, but Seagul's son & Bruce's son played together as blood brothers, & were planning to conceive a son of their own to start their own family even though they were born years apart. But that is how God works.. in mysterious ways. I am weeping now just thinking about how "amazing" Steven is, how flawless his films are, & how dedicated to the truth he happens to be.
