It is possible to homestead and work a full-time job. It does require time, and over the last decade I’ve developed some time management strategies that really work. I know you’ll find these helpful.

Welcome to our Plan Bee! After 20 years of successful careers in the Los Angeles area we moved to rural Missouri and are taking steps to become more self-sustaining on our homestead. I break down all the farmy things into small manageable steps so you can start homesteading wherever you are.
We homestead on 2.5 acres in the Missouri Ozarks, and our garden hardiness zone is 6B.
Our weekly videos break down farming and gardening into small manageable steps so you can make the transition towards self sufficiency and food sustainability without being overwhelmed!
I garden in the Missouri Ozarks and am in hardiness zone 6B.

I have found that setting a timer helps me so much. The task I dread hardly ever takes as long as i think it's going to. I've also found that once I get started and begin the job I've been putting off, then I want to continue because I see progress. Yes, sometimes you have to do 15 minutes at a time. I usually try to go out in the summer before work and get a chore started, finished, or completed. I, like you, love my checklist and the checks beside them. I wish I lived around people where the mindset was more like this. I think that's why I love my You Tube channels because I feel connected and like I have something in common with them.

Yes, a timer is a super tool. I use it a bunch inside the house. And KZfaq is a great way to have that sense of community for sure. ✔️✔️✔️

Such great ideas and advice Lorella. You have great organization skills. I’m impressed. I know what you mean about working full time and trying to get it all done. We’ve gotten so tired as we’ve gotten older. So aggravating. My husband is now complaining about house things that I’ve had to let go. I told him if I have to work full time still as I get older he’s going to have to give me a break or help me.

Thank you so much! Yes, I’ve a goal that within three years (when I turn 55) I can reduce my off farm work to only 3 days a week.

Also- since the girls have moved out Chris has gotten much more involved in keeping up with the day to day inside the house.

Excellent time saving tips. We haven't taken a vacation in years, at least not at the same time. One of us is home to do chores all the time but we enjoy day trips that are fun but get us home at night to take care of the animals and other chores on the homestead. We also enjoy having campfires right here, usually at least once a week. Or we go for hikes in our woods. Or we take the dog to the lake 7 miles away. Find down time activities you that enjoy that are close to home that can be done in a few hours to allow you to still get home to care for your homestead.

We currently live in Oklahoma and are getting stuff in order to be able to move to the Mountain Grove area in MO to start a homestead. Our oldest son is in the Clarksville, TN area and we want to be closer to him, our daughter in law and our only grandson. I love watching your channel...such great advice!!

Lorella! Thank you! I have watched several times already. I showed my husband too so he could hear and see you say my name. So fun! I ordered my quick connect hose fittings. I carry water but no more. I am going to make a smaller version of the trash can feeder for my 12 hens. So much practical help just as I requested. Here's the thing that's funny though: I loved the mindset shifts even more. "If not now, when?" is on a tape loop in my brain now. I also really appreciate the discussion about grace and expectations. Thanks again.

I’m so glad!!! I have a tape loop in my brain from a video I watched last year… “don’t put it down, put it away.” Life changing. I wish I had known to say that when my children were little.
