Thanks for this video! Don't let the suit fool you, I'm a 35-year tradesman veteran! I really liked the detailed information that you provided. I even liked the variety of work you illustrated in your video. But, most of all, I loved your honesty with your personal input from your personal experience. I dug that fact that it seems that they couldn't buy you for any benefit of theirs. Still, you stuck to your belief and your guns! Kudos to you brotha!

Thanks a bunch for the comment. So to be honest, they weren't necessarily trying to "buy me" it was more that they were trying to use me to create ads for them for no compensation outside of free stuff. Like they wanted to take the videos and post them to their product pages on Amazon. So it wasn't quite like they were trying to buy me. That being said, we've repaired the relationship since. There was just some misunderstandings on both ends. However I am not "owned" by them and I do give as objective reviews as I can. In fact they encouraged me to not say anything I don't believe. They even agreed that good criticism of their products helps them improve them. They are a pretty good company in my humble opinion.

Cool. I'm ok with my hoods. I bounce between all three of them. The two auto darkening and passive. I've been using the forney passive lens hood lately. I haven't heard of the yes brand; just recently notice it online surfing. Well thanks for the info.

Its decent. I think for what it costs, its not a bad hood.

Hobby welder here. Fix up things around the house, 4’ floor squeegees, occasional car roof rack. Yeswelder makes a great basic hood. Per my user’s manual: Test the auto dark tech by exposing it to an incandescent light. They didn’t put a test button on it.

I bought a Toolium, something like that, for $34 from Amazon and it felt very cheap despite having 4.5 review score. I am new to welding and not sure if all the$30~$50 helmets are like that. Any idea if the Yeswelder is better then that Toolium?
@DereksWorkshopAndProjects3 жыл бұрын
I’ve never used that brand but I’ll be honest, I bet you’ll think the same thing. I like these YesWelder hoods but I’ve never used like a $400 hood anything like that. I think they are good for homeowner use.

Jay, they are still working, well at least the one I kept, I can’t say for sure for the other two because I gave them away. But I’ll tell you what, I’d recommend getting one of their better models with the replaceable batteries and larger viewing windows. It’s worth it.

@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects Thank you! Especially since I haven't welded anything since high school 22 years ago! So I'm really out of the loop when it comes to whats decent and budget friendly these days.

Is it easy to change the battery on these

I haven't had to try. They have sat in my hot (summer) and cold (winter) shop for over a year and they are still working fine. I haven't needed to yet so I can't say for sure.

I got the same helmet it works just like any other auto darkening helmet

How does the battery work for the lighting one
@DereksWorkshopAndProjects3 жыл бұрын
Well, they all have the same auto darkening technology, so it would be the same across the board. But I haven’t seen the battery die on any of them:

@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects I’ve never had an auto darling so how does the battery work how do you charge it is it like a phone?
@DereksWorkshopAndProjects3 жыл бұрын
Oh I see. Sometimes people ask these basic questions in a way to try and troll me. It’s happened a couple times. So I am always a little skeptical. The auto darkening helmets are charged by a solar panel just above the viewing window. But the brightness of the arc when welding also charges it, supposedly. My helmets are almost never outside in the sun and always function properly so I assume that is true.

@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects yeah my bad I could’ve been clearer I’m in highschool taking welding classes and all last year I’ve only used a passive shade 10 but now I want to get a auto darkening but That’s so cool I thought I was going to have to keep buying batteries or something thanks for actually responding

Yeah no problem. To explain a little, for example, one time I had a guy comment on a video I had about an exhaust leak I had near the engine on my Toyota Corolla. I was just telling people different places to look for brakes or cracks in the pipe. The guy commented and said “yeah I smell exhaust around my engine, do you think I have an exhaust leak?” I thought it seemed fishy, but I answered trying to be helpful by asking a few questions and telling him what to look at and he came back later and said “oh yeah I checked and the exhaust smell was coming from my battery”. Anyway, he point was that I was an idiot for suggesting to people that there were different places to look at for exhaust leaks, and that I was stupid for not knowing right where it was coming from in the first place. So anyway, sometimes when people ask kind of basic questions like that I am a little skeptical of their intentions. With all that being said, I wish I took welding classes in high school. I had the option to but chose not to because I had a girlfriend I wouldn’t be able to see at lunch if I took them because I’d have a different lunch schedule. Anyway, that’s was one of the stupidest things I have ever done, but good on you for doing that. Auto darkening is definitely the way to go. Cheap ones work fine, but if you are going to use it all the time, like every day, and can afford it, consider getting a higher end one. But these cheap ones aren’t a bad place to start. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I looked at yeswelder helmets. But eventually ended up spending more money going with the Vulcan from harbor freight. It has the large/clear view. Wasn’t the cheapest but its a very nice helmet and I’m glad I got it.
@DereksWorkshopAndProjects4 жыл бұрын
I might do a direct comparison sometime. Those YesWelder helmets are pretty much the AD Hood to buy on amazon. Not saying they are the best but people sure buy them up. I have seen a few bad reviews of the Vulcan that make me weary of buying a $100+ hood. I’d like to get my hands on one someday.
@DereksWorkshopAndProjects4 жыл бұрын
Chris Farley If you are a “buy once, cry once” kind of guy, I’d say the YesWelder helmet is not for you. The “true color” isn’t actually that “true” it’s just better than other cheap helmets. It doesn’t have the green tint that my Harbor Freight auto darkening has but it’s still. It like looking through I good window in your house to the outside.

@DereksWorkshopAndProjects Жыл бұрын
Ya, lots of welding instructors look at a hood and don’t see a brand name on it so they dog on it. Then lots of other welding instructors will tell you just to get a good cheap one from harbor freight and don’t spend a bunch of money on one. Two lines of thought to everything. At least.
