Learn how to replace the clutch Yamaha YFZ450R. Above are two links. The top link will lead you to a clutch rebuild kit for your Yamaha YFZ450R. On our Yamaha ATV though, we did a little more work, and we needed more parts. So that second link shows you all of the parts to do the entire job we did on our YFZ450R. A note about buying the clutch plates individually: pay special attention to the quantity needed to do the job. You’ll need these three clutch plates in these quantities:
Friction plate 5VY-16321-00-00 (x6):

Clutch plate 4X7-16325-00-00 (x7):

We’ll start by draining the oil and soaking our new clutch plates in oil while we take everything apart. Then, we’ll remove the clutch on our YFZ450R. When we opened up the clutch, we saw some wear on the inside of the clutch basket. So we’re going to replace the clutch basket on our Yamaha ATV before we replace the clutch plates. John will show you how to get the clutch plates out, remove and then replace the clutch basket on a YFZ450R, and then replace the clutch plates and clutch springs. We’ll then close it back up and refill our engine with oil.

Replacing my entire clutch as I type this. I have been playing with the clutch basket and getting it to sit all the way in the gear and I’m positive it is. When you slide the boss on, are the teeth suppose to slightly hang over the center piece there? I can’t get mine to sit even, but I feel confident I have the basket all the way in.

I did everything you said still won’t engage clutch I guess it’s the rod and ball in the clutch I have brand new clutch Hinson and cable ??

I want to remove the clutch cover to get it powder coated. Do I need to drain oil? Or can I just screw it off, and leave it like that for a couple days?

I have an ‘08 yfz450 yesterday we were riding on the dunes was climbing a hill in 3rd gear started to bawg down... down shifted to 2nd same thing then it stopped moving. Turned it off then back on I could feel it go into gear let go of clutch but doesn’t move as I switch gears does the same thing but revs up. Any idea what could be wrong???

I have an 05 Raptor 350. When I shift into any gear the quad still thinks it in Neutral. I can rev it all day but it doesn't move. The light indicator shows its no longer in neutral, there's no issues with the clutch cable tension. I believe it is a clutch issue. Based on your experience and the info I have, does this sound like a reasonable assumption?

I ordered all my clutch parts from you but didn't get a clutch boss holder tool, is there any other way of getting it to not move? Like the quad being in gear or something?🙄

What size is the huge bolt holding the clutch boss in the basket? I have a 2017 yfz450r would it be the same size?

Since the clutch plates were fine, could a person reuse them? Or is it better to just use all new parts?

If you are replacing one set, you should replace all of it together.

Dear John, As always , all details taken care :) When does one change oil without changing oil filter ? Is filter change required for alternate oil changes or it is something decided based on observation from the drained oil.

I just change filter and oil together. No reason not to.

Raul Mendez Yes i did a yz 450f clutch pack. Comes with 9 disks just replace 1st with a full clutch pack.

Raul Mendez I'm pretty sure they're the same setup don't quote me on that you might want to do a little more research online before you go that far
