Boing-e-Boing I can't do Boing-e-Boing

Everytime someone on the Reddit yoyo subreddit asks what first yoyo to get, they always say that they're leaning towards the Shutter or something similar. I always try to encourage them to get a plastic, responsive yoyo. I think it's important to start with something like this because: 1. You are going to ding your yoyos. You'll be much less sad when you get your first ding on a $5-$15 yoyo than you will a $50 yoyo. The second reason is: 2. Unresponsive, metal yoyos are too forgiving. When your learning to throw a yoyo correctly, or any other trick, you will learn the trick sloppily if you use something too forgiving. A metal yoyo, lets use the Shutter as an example, Is stable and rim-weighted making learning these simpler tricks too easy. Your form will be sloppy and you'll never learn how to throw correctly. If you use a yoyo, lets use the One as an example, that lacks stability and rim-weight, you are forced to throw straighter and harder so the yoyo won't tilt and die.

Make sure you keep the string extremely horizontal to the yoyo so it doesn't wrap around your finger. You're not the only one who can't do seasick XD

I honestly felt ashamed that I couldn't do shoot the moon because I've been yoyoing for 13 years and that was one of the basic tricks i couldn't do. I spent two days straight just trying to do it and I finally got it. Have I done it since? Nope. But I did it. So never again.

Much wisdom in this post, good job and appreciate the honesty. Not quite so disheartening that I can't get the timing down for Boing-E.

yoyoing is really hard, and you're definitely right about 2A being hard. I'm learning it at the moment and even though I learned how to use my weaker hand pretty quickly, it's still really hard. Also, I can't do snap starts, you're not alone! By the way, you're awesome!

I empathize with everything you said. I started on a yomega fireball and for the longest time felt like butterfly yo-yos where a cheat. I still 16 years after i started this hobby am working on kwijibo, doing a seasick where i don't miss and fall out of it and can not snap start to save my life. And i never mastered looping more than three times, it starts great and then goes right to hell.

Hey Ann a tip from Paul Kerbel's finger spin tutorial is to let your finger be "soft". Basically don't stiffen your finger, let the yoyo press against you finger alittle. It's tough to explain until you've done it. Don't worry though I can't do seasick as well.

GT laceration was the ONLY trick I wanted to learn when I picked up yoyoing again! Still my fav. trick, too!

What do you do instead of snap starts? I've seen your 2015 women's division video and you quick start it when it dies but I can't find that start anywhere on KZfaq

Hey Ann. I started playing about 4 years ago & I still can not snap start. I can finger spin but I cant bind it and I still struggle a little with side style play. I'm good at front style and 2A.

I have been yoyoing for god knows how long now and still can't hit black hops consistently. It's one of my favorite tricks to see and I cannot land the 2 hops back on to save my life. Some days I can't even properly get into the triple or nothing to start it.

Exact same! Hey, at least you can catch the dang thing! lol, I can't do a non wobbley stamp start or finger spins either. I still try em both, every day for over a year now, and I haven't improved at ALL. Thank goodness thumb starts and that cool ?foot start? are a thing..

I don't know if I can do finger spins since I have the Horizon which makes it impossible to miss. Tried only once on my shutter and failed

I started out on an imperial aswell, mostly because I could buy it without shipping from the US but it was everything i needed at that point and more. I've been yoyoing since July and i still use it from time to time even though I have a shutter and a sage, some yoyos are just fun to throw around.

same thing happens when I try finger spins, the string gets wound up around my finger, apparently it's because you need to hold your throw hand further away from the yoyo almost taught with a little slack.

I couldn't do Brent Stole until just this past week. But since I've gotten used to my brent stole by Hook has been comming out in a double trapeze unsted of the double undermount. Not sure how I'm making that mistake though XD

I have big issues with Suicide (I hit about 5% of the attempts), I can't do Iron Whip and I learnt horizontal combos before Wrist Mount, so I see your point XD

really enjoyed this video im ood school from the days we use to recess the froction pads on freehands, i learned all basic tricks on a duncan cold fusion haha its been 20 years yoyoing and one trick i cant do at all is boingey boing smh drives me nuts

paolista or horizon? I want a good yoyo that can fingerspin ( though now I know you aren't the best at them😅) but I think I might like the paolista better. what's your personal opinion about both these yoyos?

4 years of throwing taught me horizontal, fingerspins, Yuki Spencer combos, intricate tech and so much. But I cannot hit Kamikaze or brent stole... But oddly i can do the crossed arm-gt laceration.

Can't snap start either. Lol. This video is great. I've been off and on since the 70s. Got serious a number of times through different phases. I skateboarded most of my life. Until serious injuries took me out. But always went to my yoyos during recovery. Just always fun to be learning tricks. Juggled a lot through the years as well. But what a positive video. I was just thinking all of this about Monkey Madness just today. I always go back. And just can't get that one. So frustrating. I remember the rejection on magic drop was one that took me so long.

My list of of tricks im still struggling to do snap start is a no go lol, spirit bomb, sea sick,and green revolutions ive been trying spirit bomb for about a year and not even one successful attempt

I bought cyrstal for spfinger spin cause I thought replay pro is not good for finger spin and I cannot do that even on cyrstal lol.

i can do ninja vanish green triangle slack trapeze and many other difficult tricks i always found finger spins hard but i watched a lot of videos and got it

Well i can do the wrist mount dismount and horizontal bind and almost all slack tricks lol , currently learning 5A. So its ok Ann - i cant do the seasick either ( we have so much in common , we should date )

i used to yoyo back in the revival in the late 90s as a kid and i wanted to be good soo bad but all i could get were the burger king yomegas they did for a while and i remember thinking the trapeze was impossible lol i recently picked it up and going to metal yoyos learning to bind was kinda second nature coming from those days

The way I do finger spins is in the middle of popping the yoyo up onto your finger, I move my righting hand backwards to not get the string tangled.

I've been yoyoing on and off since 94' and there's a massive list of tricks I still can't do lol.

I can't snap start either and it took me a month to figure out how to dismount a wrist mount. now I'm trying to learn Spirit bomb.

thats why theres video's, i too forget tricks on my yoyo and i have to look it up on youtube just to know oh ya i can do it ...lol

I never been able yo do more than 1 pop-n-fresh and I can only do bongy Boing with my right hand, the rest of awesome tricks only my left hand can do them and I actually can't do the classic snap start, I had yo create my own version instead xD

I can't do a tension hook or a finger spin also can't do a 1.5 hook or anything above that if you could make a tutorial on these that would be great also if you want I would be happy to teach you a snap start

I can't do shoot the moon either.... every time I try it ends up hitting me either on the hand and once on my face. I said to myself, "moving on the my next trick..." and continued 😂

just yesterday I was practicing the snapstart, I also never managed to do it, I feel better after watching this video

I learned the trapeze on a N.E.D Boomerang yoyo and let me tell you it was hard, I also learned double or nothing and man on the flying trapezes brother and also brain twister.

Hey ann try using te shutter with a glove from the dollar store that's how I learned

Hey Ann when trying to do a fingerspin try to keep the yoyo farther out towards your non throw hand side and make sure to pull slight tension on the string towards you non throw hand when hopping the yoyo into the fingerspin.... if you watch this video when you tried to do it notice the string wrapped below the yoyo on your finger causing it to be difficult so when going to mount in the FS pull you throw hand away from the yoyo so the string is horizontal like the yoyo lol hope this helps:D

I sicker at finger spins for a long time, but my problem was my throw after I got that right it was easy, you should try it out

I would call myself pretty good at yoyoing, but the one thing I can't do is hops. I dont even know where to start when you do a hop, I watched the yoyotricks video on it, but I still can't do it. I can pop out of a GT though, weird.

Im really bad at horizontal. Its on and off. Sometimes I can and sometimes I cant. Just yesterday night I hit myself in the face with my Horizon, trying to do Horizontal figure 8.

A year and half ago looping finally clicked for me and I could throw 35+ loops almost everytime. Just as I was going to try to start two handed looping...POOF! It was like I had to learn how to do one handed looping from scratch. It broke my heart. I still haven’t gotten as good as I was1 1/2 years ago!

you should keep trying i never gave up on trying to do a trick you should too i think your a great at yoyoing

Finger spins and snap start are also my seemingly impossible tricks to learn. But I have not given up yet. Only got in to unresponsive a few weeks ago though. So fare I have managed to learn plastic whip, zip, break away throw and trapeze mount. And some basic binds. Oh and the jump rope trick whatever that is called :)

Ann, right when your finger hits the yoyo then move your hands apart because the string will keep on wrapping around your finger and slow it down if your hands are close

Try a magic yoyo skyva finger spins

My best tip for finger spins is to start of with the yoyo at a slight angle and just try and lick your finger into the right place, through it across your body and gradually get more and more horizontal. I know this technique works because I got it first time

It is about the journey ha ha But it sure is nice when you learn a new trick

I can't do Yuuki Slack...or any cool speed combos. And I remember when getting a decent metal was huge pain in the ass.

I dont keep my finger completely straight i curl it in a bit and land it on my nail hope that helps!!

After 8 months of learning 4A yo-yo, I can't even snap start the yo-yo. I feel noob haha

shoot the moon is my favorite responsive trick ever. an easy way to practice is to (short) string up a responsive DMII and lean back in an office chair

I can do fingerspins and even bind from a finger spin.... but I can't do horizontal AT ALL.
