Hey Yogev , Great video mang! The visual rep of the groupings within the hieroglyph are awesome :-) The analysis is pretty spot on too! This tune is def a big variation on theme, which we're big on. I personally don't really take tempo changes into account, it's more incidental, Just expanding or contracting groupings giving the feeling of tempo shifts. this tune is just 16th note based, which is why its an "easy one" :-). The time sigs are a different story :-) Thanks for taking the time man! I owe u a beer!

I also discovered Car Bomb a few months ago and was blown away. They have been through a lot of turmoil (flooded basement and all gear distroyed) and hopefully making due and NEW MUSIC in the future??? Not sure what tech industry they are in but my research says they developed their own mics! Who does that...way beyond just musicians!!!

@@YogevGabay So...can the Yogev Gabay fans and the Car Bomb fans both get a special guest appearance on Time Consuming where they can give you the feedback you requested? I think it would be really interesting to learn if they approached the composition differently than your analysis of what they arrived at, like were there any happy accidents? Or were you spot on and deciphered the code?

The more you listen to Car Bomb, the more you realize that metric modulation is the foundation of their formula. They are literally the Yang to Meshuggah's Yin.

I'm not big into Meshuggah... How exactly is that so?
@HoxVox
@HoxVox Жыл бұрын
@@DuffyLONER64 he meant Car Bombs' savage, hot and SOMEHOW* baroquely complex approach to the matter opposed to the pure, glacial and minimalist complex approach by Meshuggah *SOMEHOW because Car Bomb don't play useless notes motivated by a self indulgent ear-pleasing attitude, which was a defect by many baroque classical musicians, but all the same they sound (they are, and this video is a proof) more articulated than Meshuggah.
@HoxVox
@HoxVox Жыл бұрын
@@DuffyLONER64 cutting it short, it's like Meshuggah want you to understand and reflect about how music can expand wider through polyrhythm, feeding (AWESOME) sketches of that, while Car Bomb want you to experience it by painting the best faithful picture of it they can. Exactly. Meshuggah is rigidly structured. They never, ever, deviate from 4/4. Car Bomb is open-ended. They swing between tempos and time signatures. But one thing they have in common with Meshuggah is a good sense of how to develop small ideas into a cohesive whole.

They also change note rates a lot, and not just to the "normal" tuplets like 5s and 7s. Metal Music Theory has some really amazing transcription videos that I'd recommend everyone check out, really helps put into perspective just how insane some of Car Bomb's riffs are. I've never heard a band bend time quite as wildly as they do.

Car Bomb was the first Band I heard first live on a concert without knowing them and not wanting them to stop. 10:00 Yes. Yes and yes. Your analysis, both visual and verbal are absolute honey for the soul! I've never really given car bomb much time, but this video has changed that in terms of intention - I have a lot of appreciation for bands who explore these possibilities and rhythmic events, even if I can't spend as much time as I might wish I could listening to it (it's somewhat exhausting when musically you feel obliged to accept the challenge of understanding it). And that's where the comment comes full circle - glorious to see the puzzle unfurl. Just been to watch some of their live clips, the fact that their presentation is very much a tough guy hardcore band, and yet the complexity of what they do is there, this is a very satisfying case of not judging books by their covers or having a pre-conceived or judgemental bias/idea that there's not much intelligence in that scene...

Man I couldn't agree more. Also, I have a hard time just "listening" to music without paying attention to what's going on, which is why it took me a while to get into these guys. I had the chance to hang out with these guys after a show a number of years ago. It was the farewell tour for Dillinger when they stopped in Atlanta ( don't remember the venue ) and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had speaking to a touring band. They are down to earth and extremely talented. I asked about the title of their second album and was told that it was a simple saw wave. I always just called it W's. I got this album signed and totally missed the Dillinger set because my friends and I were talking to these dudes. This is by far my favorite modern metal group, and cant wait to hear their next album!

When you mentioned getting excited about the simple beat, it reminded me of an article I read years ago about breakcore/IDM, discussing the percentage of chaos to solid rhythms. When a song has a lot of crazy stuff going on, it makes it more satisfying when it gets to something you can more easily grab onto. There is probably some theory there that is beyond my knowledge.

14:48 - Your statement is exactly how Ive come to feel about Car Bomb, particularly in the past half an year, as I finally was in the mood for the abrasiveness of "w^w^^w^w". and now that record has become basically medicine for me - I mean, nothing sounds as unhinged, raw, brutal, heavy, technical, broken, groovy, fast, frenetic, etc. as this record to my ears is something truly unique.

This was awesome and so insightful! I am not even a fan a Car Bomb, even though I know and repect the band, but i watched the whole video as the idea of building the whole song over the same rhythmical idea. Dude seriously, this channel is pure gold!
