Thanks for this. I have three YN 300 Airs and really like them. The only criticism I have is that - in order to put the 'Go Pro' style mount on the light - you have to be very careful to not lose the tiny nut when screwing and unscrewing the screw that secures the light to the mount. I am really curious what the Viltrox equivalent is like in comparison.

Loved this review. Basically what I needed to see. I need lights I can take as carry on luggage. Using ikan micro floods and spots right now but need one fairly brighter portable light as key for my interviews. Before the ikans I was using the wonderful Lowell ViP Pro-light as a key.

Take a look at the other Yongnuo videos on my channel if you're looking for something bright. The YN300 Air is ultra light and easily portable, but the YN300 III lights are MUCH brighter, especially if you do the single color.

Not bad at all! you could easily make that a larger light source by putting a plain piece of paper in front of it, it'll soften it even more and also disperse the light more evenly, may cut down the light by about a stop but with camera's these days shooting in upwards of 50,000 iso like the A7S+ well you know :). Or just buy a portable scrim :D Keep up the gr8 vids!

I bought the YN300 based on your video. I think its a good little light for the money. The only thing I didn't like was the "gopro" style mount instead of 1/3-20 threaded mount like the Viltrox and others have. The light is pretty phenomenal for its size. Color balance is really good and matches my other lights pretty well. Its bright enough to use with an umbrella for really soft light. I probably will buy another one of these and a couple of the Viltrox lights as well. They do good together. Thanks for the good video.

The good side of the gopro style mount is for getting the light at an angle if your tripod does not support angling things.

J.R. Regenold - Did you buy the Viltrox equivalent of the Yongnuo YN300 Air? I have three YN 300 Airs - figured that I'd better get all from the same company in the (probably mistaken) assumption that the colour temperature would be more consistent. However, I am really interested in the Viltrox (which I looked at, too).

I'm using a FDR-AX53 and for my first video I used default settings with the light source being a large ceiling LED light. Needless to say, the video was dark and grainy. When you shut off all your lights your video was surprisingly clear with no grain. What camera were you using to provide such clarity in darkness??? And no lights at all? Not even an on camera light?

Would you recommend these for green screen/standing talking stuff? Or would I need something a bit stronger? They're adjustable so I'd assume one at max for key, the other at 50-70% for fill. My needs are rather limited so if I can get away with a couple of these a 3-5 feet away, that'd rock. Not sure a hair light would be necessary for youtube/ecommerce needs. That said, if a yes, would it be worth my time to go ahead and snag the soft boxes as well?

Biggest bummer about these lights is that you need to constantly access the back of them to turn on/off. If you want to use them for video conferencing, potentially means jumping in and out of chair every time you take a call.

Jordan Keyes I am planning to add lighting stuff now, then if possible i will buy a DSLR sometimes later (i am saving for a Canon 200D). I plan to get one YN300 Air and will use it with a foam reflector on one side with a white paper on top of my shooting table. Your help will be highly appreciated.
@JordanKeyes
@JordanKeyes 6 жыл бұрын
Ah, I understand! Looking at some of your videos, I think the YN300 Air would definitely help quite a bit with the lighting. It's not the brightest light out there, but it's small, lightweight, and puts out a decent amount of light, and if you paired it up with a reflector, that would definitely help. If you can afford the price difference, the YN300 III 5500k might be a better option. The YN300 Air is bi-color, meaning it can go 3200k to 5500k, so if you set it to 5500k only at 100%, you're only using 48 LEDs. With the YN300 III you can get one that's 100% 5500k color temperature, and all 300 LEDs in it are the same color, so it's a LOT brighter.

There is 1/4" threaded socket underneath, the one you screw the handle in. Instead of the handle, you should screw in the head of the tripod. Caution: The lighting support stand; not the camera tripod. If you wish to use the camera tripod just remove the head and use the tripod screw. If this is 3/8" you have to use an adapter. Hope I helped.

It looks creepy and its very hard on the eyes when in front of you. Basically i get what you get at 4.25 on your video and i want what you have before :D Could you help me out to what i need to do . These are the softboxes: amzn.to/29oVSXW And yeah, they're great. I was just looking for something smaller and more portable, to take up much less space in my office and give me options for when I travel.
@puddytat62
@puddytat62 8 жыл бұрын
Well those are pretty economical soft boxes. They look great. For a static setup I am guessing they will work fine but I am leery about those CFL bulbs moving them around. Not sure how good the stands are but you certainly cannot beat that price. I do own a couple Yongnuo products and they are decently built and as you discovered the bi color ones do sacrifice the flexibility of multiple colors for output. Most people I know of are buying the full daylight LED (any brand) and then just using CTO . The YN600 and 300 non air can be easily softened by using ....a white plastic bag... I've tried it ... works quite well. Now I did order a couple of these Air versions only to find later that the belief they output the same light ,or close ,as the YN300 does is not accurate. But for table top stuff or even a quicky interview you can pop these on a table near the subject and you are golden. The big issue with the Yongnuo stuff is the CRI rating. Frankly I've had no issue but they are rated in the 80's vs the much more expensive Came tv lights. The new ones are basically the same size as the YN600 but you can get barndoors and softboxes to make them more practical vs the YN which really can only be diffused with spun of some kind. I like Parchment paper. Also the YN 600 has a fan that some claim is noisy. For me it's fine. Good videos.
