i agree wtih you on the point of language and the over usage of terms or stretching of terms to cover different meanings/contexts. I disagree with you partially on the ablism thing, and in its proper context, it is discriminating against someone based upon their disability, not their ability. There is an important distinction there. in the case of denying someone work due to a disability, it would heavily depend on the context of both the work in question and the nature of the disability. You cannot or perhaps should not have someone who is missing limbs operate heavy machinery , but they can work an office or sales job just fine. Someone with down syndrome cannot be expected to be an accountant or auditor but there is nothing to say that they cannot be taught how to do basic tasks. Hell i remember there was a down syndrome guy who worked for Macdonalds as a server for like 40 years much like everything, it depends on the context. As for the person saying you were bad due to "denying someone's existence" - ignore that. Its a hyper extreme position, particularly of the american progressive political movement. In essence it is meaning less, its a faux pax. It is a luxury belief behind the fake outrage (even if the outrage may be real, the belief behind it is benign and of little value as it is not grounded in reality)

Ableism is not discriminating against someone who's "not able to do a certain thing" is discriminating against people who has any kind of physical/mental impairment, a deficiency, which is exactly like discriminating people by their skin color. Yes of course you not giving a construction worker job to someone who's in a wheelchair makes sense since he's not able to do that kind of service but denying the same man in the wheelchair a job of something like customer support just because he's impaired is definitely something not cool. In this example the former is not an example of ableism and the latter is.
@AgentSnowpuff
@AgentSnowpuff 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, I don't know if he's just trying to excuse certain behaviors or if he really just doesn't understand how foul ableism can be. At its least harmful it's excluding people from society, infantilizing them, or straight up telling them to their face that a normal person would rather be dead than live like them. At the extreme end you get eugenics movements and laws getting passed forcing people to get sterilized. I get that this kind of scope is not necessarily obvious to people who don't experience it personally, but really before he criticizes something like this he should make an effort to actually understand what he's talking about. Even a really brief skim of a Wikipedia article would let him know it's more serious and prevalent than he's making it out to be.

I love your content, and I love talking about the sorts of issues you mention in terms of ableism and identity politics. The “Dancing With Wolves” analogy makes sense up to a point though - names are something that can be regularly changed and have little to no effect on your life, while one’s gender is part of a social construct that can effect how someone sees you, talks to you, and interacts with you. Similarly, ableism is not me discriminating against you based on how well you can perform a job - ableism is me discriminating against you based on how *I believe* you can perform any task *in general.*

One of your recent vids you explained that the chat and pings were something of a resource for information while playing, usuaully I am very easily distracted by chat and end up typing like a silly little guy so I often have my self deafened so that I can't see what others type, or type myself. But I have been practicing my yorick zen state to use the chat and the pings without feeling the need to interact with the chat myself. It is very useful to know who is doing the mad both on your own team and the enemy team.

I feel like what you’re talking on in the beginning of the video is valid, but it feels like you’re talking about the extremes of these thoughts/ideas. Because all the things you talk about I think are important but when it’s taken so far to where at it’s extreme is doesn’t even make sense anymore it’s kind of silly and degrades the whole point of the idea /movement behind it

Last thing I'll say - the ones who argue or get the most heated are normally the ones who can't explain it in a way that stops the questions. I've learned that throughout multiple jobs and relationships - the person who is getting the most heated is always the one who doesn't seem to have the answers but seems to be the one trying to be the difference. Instead of just quieting down and figuring it out and then discussing it, they get heated and say things just to say things. It's comical after awhile. Again, not saying anyone's wrong. You're free to think how you want to think. And if you got the resources to do what you want, then you do you (as the saying goes). But don't come at someone all heated because they're asking questions. If you don't have answers or if you think they've said something in error, it's always better to ask them about it than accuse them. The conversation will go so much smoother if you communicate in such a way where you understand that they're just asking questions and you work to understand what they're asking and then work to answer the question(s) they're asking.

Yeah true, i used to get heated all the time without knowing why and recently i found out that the reason i got angry or sad while arguing was bc i felt ignorant when people asked me things about the topic of the discussion and i did not know exactly how to respond and my pride forced me to answer when i just needed to think for a while and step down from the discussion

As a transyorick (transgender) person, relating to the identity ideas thats just the thing. You say that what you are in the present is what you are and thats ultimately what transition is. Its to change how you currently are to reflect how youd like to be seen. It sort of a mixture of both mental identity and physical identity. Like if you meet someone who says they are a woman, and dress like one, and associate with other women does it make sense to group them with the groups they no longer display just because they didnt start that way? Its an interesting way to think about things. Love listening to your opinions.

Oh wrong, is writed in your DNA and you have to take hormones to mantain that way, that will make the person forever a Trans if they don't change it in the DNA. Hopefully i am techno humanist and would like to see the true solution comming. All we need to do is to reduce the regulations of the state... Sadly is all that the left do, create more regulations and taxes to control peoples life. And in who the LGTV enjoyers vote? Good luck.

Hey Mr Rick, love the content. You got me into playing yorick, which was my introduction to top lane (I've had phases of every other role before). I love your commentary and discussions. However, I would really encourage you to do some more research on the topics you discuss. For example, ableism is a very expansive and complicated subject. But in your video, you boiled it down to "not hiring someone" and "ableism isn't that bad". Not knowing the full extent of it is not your fault, it should be more talked about. But talking about it with a platform without fully understanding it is a problem, because you may be the first person to introduce this idea to someone else. As a transgender fan, some of your statements about it being "weird" are hurtful. I didn't choose to be trans, and I don't want to be an inconvienence to anyone. There is so much to talk about regarding gender because it is so complicated, but you should research it from a more educated source than me. I spent my time writing all this out not because I think you're a bad person for being misinformed, but because I'm disappointed that this channel that normally hosts such engaging discussion is unknowingly spreading misinformation. And if you're about to reply with hate, I hear worse daily so don't waste your time. (Edit: I meant any commenter, not Mr. Rick specifically)

i think you were confusing the ideas of "personal" and "private" property. personal property like your toothbrush, clothes, whatever, cannot be used to generate more property. it simply exists as it is. but land on the other hand can be used to acquire more land, you can put means of production on it which you can then use to buy more land and so on so forth
@sirPokerick
@sirPokerick 10 ай бұрын
everything is a means of production, including your brain, body, clothes, so I am not sure it makes sense to say that only land is what if you have a space ship on which you produce stuff? isn't that production?
@robertgonzalez8859
@robertgonzalez8859 9 ай бұрын
@@sirPokerick sure, everything technically is a means of production. you can break down a toothbrush into its component plastics and you might be able to re-sell them in some different form and buy two more toothbrushes with the money, but it's very difficult to do so, and not worth the time. this might seem unrelated, but it's sort of like the whole idea in physics that you can turn any small amount of matter into a huge amount of energy. despite this, practically speaking a 10g piece of nuclear fuel is worth infinitely more than a 10g piece of rock you can find outside, even though they both contain the same amount of energy according to physics. it's just that it's exceedingly difficult to get anything out of a rock. in this analogy the toothbrush is the rock, and the land is the nuclear fuel. you can easily use land to get more land/easy-to-exploit means of production. i think that's a useful distinction between private and personal property. private property is easy to exploit to get more private property, whereas personal property can be considered an impossible-to-exploit form of the private property.

@bencemartin6899 6 ай бұрын
@@sirPokerick Tell me when you are able to feed anything like kettle or chicken on your body and your clothes or produce car batteries out of your brain, maybe shit out crude oil. Also, nobody said that only land can be defined as means of production. That was an example only obviously....... (yeah its cringe of me to use "..." but dude) And for your ridiculus spaceship analogy, let me break it down for you. Bikes, cars, trains even spaceships are not means of production they are literally means of transportation, thus putting a fcking plant pot in your car or inthis case spaceship and growing tomatoes in them does not change the fact that its still for transportation mainly. But yes, the LAND=DIRT which you put in your spaceship can be used for production, its lucky that both transportation and production should be publicly owned property. Apologies if the way I wrote the comment offends you, I tried moderating myself, but I hate when you talk about stuff and I can hear the neo-liberal capitalist propaganda in it.

Existence of property is impossible in real world even of it was thoretically possible and even if it might be useful to pretend it does in some social context for 2 reasons: 1. In order for someone to rightfully own something, things like violence/coersion etc can't be involved and all current "properties" are result of past and present transfers that were not just, so you can't really say what is assigned to you is your property 2. Self does not persist in time, you need to be able to actually exist in numerically identical sense in 2 point in time to claim ownership to something across time. Self is the name for the thing that experiences, in order for self to experience a thing, there has to be changes to self and since ownership claim at 2 point in time requires at least 2 however small differences in experience, the self is different at the 2 point and so it's not the same self and so it can't be owed to the same person. It seems wrong to mess with a body someone is inhibiting because it makes them or will make their future selves needlessly uncomfortable etc, not because of property right violation.
@sirPokerick

1. ableism at least for the persons that i know that work in something related, its more on the side of not treating persons with a disability like children/inherently inferior. Like in a lot of places they cant make legal desicions by themselves because of outdated laws, so their parents or whoever they are married to has a 100% legal and economic control over them. And they do have it more difficult to get the same job in the stats, because for example people hiring might get preocupied that they are going to have problems doing the tasks even if the job is just to code and the person is just on a wheelchair.

But for pushing lethality is still ok, cause people feel more afraid of you and if it is just an adc or support that comes to stop you, you just destroy them faster. Bruiser in general is good for team fighting too, since you don't rely as much on your family as a lethality build.

Also, backseat gaming is generally frowned upon. I'm sure you wouldn't like if it people started telling you how to comment or when to not comment, hm? Maybe keep that in mind before you come here telling someone how to play their champ. Especially to a channel who literally builds so that he can win lane and then win game. Does it always work? No. Does he seem to enjoy it? For the most part. Does any build work 100%? No. If they did, then there would be champs with 100% win rate. But there aren't.

As someone with a disability I would like to clarify something about ableism. Ableism isn't about denying someone who is incapable of doing a job because of their disability. Denying someone who is in a wheelchair a construction job isn't ableism. Ableism comes in when someone discriminates against someone who could perform a task because of a disability that is unrelated to the task. Someone in a wheelchair can be a lawyer because you don't need to be able to stand to do the job. A law firm intentionally hiring an equally qualified candidate specifically because they are not disabled is ableism. Many people have co-opted the use of the word as a catch-all for anything that is derogatory toward a person who is disabled. Making fun of Lee Sin for being blind would be ableism, but simply referring to him as the blind monk would not.

A society that does not allow an individual to succeed based on their merits and abilities is unjust. Just as a society that does not care for those that are disabled is unjust. Pure individualism and pure collectivism are both unjust. As it is in many cases any extreme is bad, most things require balance.

i think the term for most of these new people who will say things like " This is this way and if you think otherwise you are that" or at the pick of the pyramid like you said are "grifters". i discovered it not long ago and it's more or less people saying very inflammatory things or encourage emotional engagement for their own gain. Not all them but many of these people does seems to fit in that category of making people hang onto their words in a bad or good way so they get the attention.

I'd also like to state a potentially unpopular opinion - if we were made in god's image, then why are there people questioning their genders? Hm? I'm not religious, though I have started calling myself spiritual. I'm not saying it's bad to be curious or to question the way things are... but there are a lot of people out there who think we are how we are because this is either a) how we were made or b) what we chose to be (as in we decided to live on Earth and we decided on how we would be in life, kind of like fate). This is what sparks the debates. Transgender people started life as what they are (male/female) and they decide to question it, to the point of just saying "well I guess I have no gender" which makes no sense at all, from a linguistics and logic point of view. I do have a couple transgender friends and I generally try to avoid the topic because they can't seem to explain their way of thinking in a way that will actually make me understand. Trying to be careful with my wording here, as I don't need to get flamed by anyone who thinks I'm being inconsiderate. I really do try to understand. I really do question things because I just "want to get to the bottom of it". But some things I won't ever understand because I'm me and they are not me. I'm not them. I don't understand how they think. Literally can't put myself in their shoes because we're apples and oranges.

Correct me if I'm wrong but to put your ideas into less confusing mess: Saying "woman is someone who identifies as a woman" is bad because saying someone is a woman doesn't give you any new information? I see your point and somewhat agree, but to play devils advocate: I think it provides an insight into someone's mind. There are a lot of spoken and unspoken rules in society, and saying that "I identify as a woman", means that you want to be treated as such with all the downsides and upsides. As for the information, we have a word "female", that provides more biological information. And that's why I think some sports should be renamed to "Female Basketball" instead of "Women Basketball", so that there is no confusion. I also believe there is nothing wrong with having "Asian Basketball" or "Teen Basketball" or "Crippled Basketball" as long as the rules of who can and who cannot join are clearly defined, and can be checked easily. I also believe the society is extremely unfair towards men. Nothing much changed except that women got a lot better in recent years, while men stayed at the bottom. That's why we see more and more trans women, because it's simply easier to be a women. That's why I think, that it's for good that anyone can "identify as a woman", because when everyone single person is identifying as a woman, there literally won't be "wage gap" and other made up stuff. To conclude I think it's for good, that I can change absolutely nothing in my life or looks and say "I identify as a woman now" and get all the benefits from it.

WTF lol I don't even know how would I reply to you, I agreed with the first half but men have literally never not been in a place of privilege in the United States. Have you seen history? Not all women could have voted until the ACTUAL 1920S.. and even then, colored women STILL had to fight for their rights afterward! It has only been one generation of people since women couldn't vote. You've got to be kidding me.

@7:08 - I don't think that person understood what you meant when you were talking about linguistics and the idea of, from your statement as an example, "what is a woman". Men out there saying they identify as a woman and women identifying as men. But what does that mean? You don't have the appropriate chromosomes (though I am very aware that exceptions do happen with men having xx and women have xy). You don't have the appropriate reproductive parts. You also don't have the appropriate vocal intonations. So if anyone can say they are anything, then what Mr. Pokerick is saying is "why can't people just say they're a chair and be done with it?". If people can say they're anything, then words have no meaning. So he's just asking the question that a lot of us are thinking anyway - what signifies someone as a man or woman. The world is getting to a point where linguistics is contradicting itself because people are suddenly deciding things, that have been known FOR A LONG TIME, are no longer how they are. And I also understand the whole psyche and such that goes into this discussion as well. But just saying that he wasn't being malicious with his question. People like us, who simply ask a question, are often confused with people with malicious intent. We are curious. Let us be curious. Either further the conversation, or keep your mouth shut. It's pretty simple. He chose to open a conversation, even if it does get some people heated, and you chose to respond with negativity. That's not his fault, it's yours.
@HP-tt5sz
@HP-tt5sz 10 ай бұрын
I mean, it's more like people are waking up to the idea that cisgendered people, too, have also no idea what linguistics mean to them. Transgender people, and by extension, queer people, are now exploring the limits, and pseudo limits of words, as well as stereotypes, traditions and structures in society. DISCOURAGING change in a society of people, which is literally known to CHANGE, is redundant and stupid. Curiosity is good, when it's not being used in bad faith. If you're actually curious, remain indifferent and neutral, until you know what you are talking about. Also, nobody is 'contradicting themselves' or making words do so, it's factual that men and women are two parts of a gender binary that is unironically proven by sociology to be a completely made up concept. There is nothing that makes you a 'man' or a 'woman', and you will quickly find that trying to define so, will run you into several issues. Not all women can give birth, not all women have ovaries, not all women have XX chromosomes, not all men wear pants, not all men behave masculine, not all men have muscles, not all men have XY chromosomes. BTW, the idea of 'biological [gender]' is dumb, because a person can NEVER know what someone's chromosomes are unless they are in a lab, there have been many times where a man has gone to get his chromosomes checked, and discovered that they were not XY.

From what i've seen youre just speaking your stream of conciousness and most people are not used to that. they commonly consume scripted and checked content so when they hear something they disagree with they get pissed (even thought in that origonal video you got cut off by the game ending) i disagree with a fair amount of your opinions but at the end of the day no one is here for philosophical discussions and debate. ie you said about no property means more war but in reality the countries that have been in the most wars (european) all had property rights. to an extent. youre just a dude on youtube speaking his mind and playing some pokerick, thats what we are here for so dont change.

I just wanna throw this out there, for the arguments sake: if you own your body, then you shouldnt own a dog's body too, cos it is its own owner. So it's not up to you "to do whatever you want with it" because you paid/cared/raised the dog. And even if we do take that into consideration, like you said about the "identify as", "ownership" is also a concept in our minds. Same for money. Therefore.. we dont really own anything.

Ableism doesn’t mean “not being able to do something” it’s an illogical opinion that an able bodied person is able to do something better or correctly, despite no real evidence. That’s why is discriminatory and why it’s illegal to do when you’re hiring someone. Ableism would be “I’d never hire that blind person as an accountant, a normal person could def do the job better” because there’s plenty of ways a blind person could figure out a way to do a good job, or even better than the average accountant. It also includes mental disabilities which are even more stigmatized today. An example would be “I’d never trust that person with an important job, they’re a league of legends player, they’re not well in the head”.

what if someone denied that you can be a man? You asked your self "what is a man?" so there isn't really one objective meaning. What if someone else defined "a man" in a way that excluded you? Wouldn't it be fair to say that they are denying your existence as a man? So whoever told you that you are denying their existence could have meant that you are denying their place in some category or identity they identify with? So if you think your definition of the category is better than theirs, debate the merits of you definition, don't retreat into metaphysics of existence. I don't really know the context to your story about denying someones existence, but i think that you should explicitly state the category or identity that was contested and explain your definition and why everybody else should use it too.

I would probably point out in your discussion about property, in that, hell in a system where you Own property, plenty of wars have been started because of attempts to claim that property or land. Second I believe you mean you want bodily autonomy, the ability to dictate what you do with your own body, back on the topic of property too, people have been treated as "Property" to sold and treated as livestock which is another grind at your statement based on the discussion of that concept of property, or working in an egalitarian mindset where community comes first.

I mean - when people respect each others property things become better. Rather than running around randomly fighting if there is no way of telling who lives where and owns what. And owning people can't happen if you respect each persons right to their own body (as property)

Transgenderism in the political sense, ie when debating the morals, ethics etc of the matter is incredibly reliant on controlling language If you disagree, you are 'denying their existence' when in reality it's just disagreeing with the person embracing dysphoria. They are very different, one is an extreme nonpersoning attack, the other is questioning the dangerous use of language or the belief of a binary. They vilainize people to force them to validate their world view rather than calling it into question, cause the wider the scope of that discussion the less and less it favors them. Just like how "birthing person" is not a replacement for women there simply are words with meanings and no amount of trying to warp language will change man and woman. They already lost that the minute they had the prefix trans- in front of the word

I enjoy your view on the world, policies, etc. It is sad how sensitive and angry everyone has become. We are allowed to have different opinions from other people. Do I think someone should be able to "identify" as another gender or animal? No I do not. But if it doesn't affect me, I don't really care. It is those same people that want to shove their views down your throat though and make you accept it and agree with it.
