Well done Andy, 15 time Marathoner, I've no desire to run back to back races 😂. Re your struggling in the latter stages, I was massively guilty of underfueling in a lot of my early marathons, so now I try to get around 30g of carbs in every half hour, part of marathon training is to find the right fuelling and just work into your training(train that stomach as well) , I can't emphasise enough, how much difference you'll feel, best wishes on your next adventure 👍

Cheers Ben! I genuinely feel it will take me another 5 marathons at least to try and understand how my body reacts under so much stress. 15 is amazing mate - great to hear that you've learned from early mistakes!

Hi Andy! Congrats on your 2 on 2, you did absolutely great! I did my own 2 on 2 last year and it was a fantastic experience! I ran Munich and then Amsterdam. I had never completed a marathon under 4h20m before, my PB until October 2022 was 4h23m. But in Munich I ran 4h01m and in Amsterdam I finished in 4h19m. I can't tell you how happy I was with my performances! So, yes, I would totally recommend doing a 2 on 2 once in your life.

@@itsonandy Yes, Munich was fantastic, it's a wonderful city. No, no 3 on 3 for me, ever. Even 2 on 2 was already a stretch. And I'm getting old, just turned 60... I just came back from Barcelona/Athens. I did a half in Barcelona and then a full in Athens. The Athens one I totally recommend, we start from the city of Marathon, the birthplace of our beloved race.

Congratulations Andy. Two marathons in two weeks is a fantastic achievement so be proud. Really pleased you seemed to have a better race experience at Yorkshire than Chester. Adding a beautiful ParkRun and it's been an incredibly successful weekend. Finishing safe and enjoying the day should always be top priority - 'punishing' yourself for a slightly quicker time, serves no purpose. The importance of FUELLING can not be understated, and you will need to come up with something. Think your mental struggle at a certain point of both Yorkshire and Chester is a direct result of the fuelling issue - get that right and the rest will follow. I ran both Chester and Yorkshire marathons too - loved them both. Congratulations once again and best of luck with further challenges. Ps. The air B&B looked stunning. Drone footage was awesome.

@@itsonandy Why don’t you like gels? Is it the taste? I used to run marathons on water alone as I hated the taste of gels but realise I needed something else to help me through. I would strongly urge you to carry gels. You don’t have to like the taste of something - if it gets you through, that’s all that matters.

Please don't doubt yourself - if you train at a high volume of mileage with a slow pace for most of it and then sprinkle in faster running you could most definitely run under 3:30

Well done Andy. Love these half travel, half running vlogs. Keep 'em coming. Two marathons in two weeks on HM training is some achievement. Regarding marathon nutrition I mix it up with High 5 Aqua gels (these have more water so easier to stomach albeit a bit bulkier) and Voom Electro Energy bars plus water on the course.

Another great video Andy 👍 Both are the best footage that I have seen of Chester and York (courses that I absolutely must run one year if trying to keep down the costs). I think that you can definitely push down that time which you ran in Manchester and start running regular times that are quicker than that with some minor tweaks to training + more weekly mileage. Look to build closer to 40+ as a base (when you aren't recovering or training for anything in particular throughout most of the year) then look to build towards 50+ miles per week during your peak training weeks on the next Marathon you would like to attack. It might not work on the first one but would definitely work for you over a few training blocks I would think.

I've seen people do back to back marathons, but they tend to dial the pace all the way down so they know they can finish both. And if you find something to replace gels, I'd be very interested. Are you training with the fueling? Including in shorter distances - it's the only way your gut will get used to it whilst your body is working. You might not technically need it for those shorter distances, but you've got to give your GI system chance to train too ☺️

Your half marathon time and your 5k time give very similar VDOT equivalent marathon performances, just under 3:20. It seems to me that fuelling it almost certainly the biggest reason why your marathons don't reflect your true speed. If you really can't get on with gels, I would suggest trying different brands and different flavours as you will likely find one you do like. Otherwise, a carb drink mixture is a good bet. I use SIS but put 1.5x the recommended concentration which makes it taste better to me plus more fuel per litre.
