Water is the life-blood of Yosemite National Park. The Tuolumne and Merced rivers water some of the most productive farmland on the Earth, and urban dwellers throughout the state depend on the Sierra Nevada snowpack for their domestic water needs. I was there a couple of years ago. The platform is at the top of Vernal Falls and it is on the Mist Trail. You have to hike up to the platform, but it is an easy/moderate hike. At 5:15 you get a glimpse of some people walking down from that platform which is to the right of the falls. You can also see why it is called Mist Trial -- you're going to get wet on the way up/down! So go prepared with a good pair of hiking shoes. Great hike and it is part of a larger hike to Half Dome (strenuous).

Yosemite Nature Notes never lets me down. Always the best stuff, like a snapple juice drink.lol. I would love to see a Nature Notes done on the night sky. Awh that would be nice. Every year we watch the Perseid meteor shower up and around the glacier point area. Wow. then you have awsome views of the Milky Way Galaxy not mention. With the naked eye. I can only imagine the timelapse done in certain places, would produce. after seeing the moonbows episode. that got me going for a night episode.

Steve...your videos are a cut above the rest. No one I've seen has the production quality you have nor do they achieve the unique perspectives you do on the various monuments in the park. Can't tell you how many times I rewind to figure out what landmark is showing in the video only to find out it's the same landmark I've seen a hundred times. That is how unique your shots are. I'm thankful for all of your hard work. Keep it up!

Some people have a totem animal. Many people would say that for them it is an eagle, a bear, a whale, etc (something grand). I, on the other hand, have a totem river. It is the Merced, which flows through Yosemite. When I visit the park I always hike the Mist Trail, from Happy Isles up past Nevada Fall. That is my worship ritual, and I am aways spiritually regenerated by it.

Excellent video work Steve & Josh! I'm leaving for a week in Yosemite tomorrow, and this vid is really getting my engines revving. This will be my 4th trip to Yosemite, but it will be the first year that Glacier Point & Tioga Pass are open while I'm visiting! :-) Great to see Shelton Johnson back in the Nature Notes vids!

Does anybody know which waterfall is pictured at 0:37 in the video? I'd love to go see it from that viewing platform!

0:31 to 0:37 all show Vernal Falls. The top of the falls (and the viewing spot shown at 0:37) can be reached by either the Mist Trail (shorter but steeper and wetter) or the Panorama Cliff (John Muir Trail, first bit) Trail, although to get to the top of the falls, you'll have to get off the JMT and drop down a bit on branch trail to get to the falls.

In the United states, 90% of water is used by industry and agriculture.. the other 10% is split evenly between municipalities(parks, golf courses) and actual human beings. Taking shorter showers can only help so much....if you want to get serious, attack big business not people.

LA hasn't stolen water, they bought it. BTW, Hetch Hetchy Reservoir (the abomination of Yosemite) feeds San Francisco, Not LA.

When folks in LA stop stealing other folks water and quit running water into the streets wh8ile watering their lawns and washing their cars it would go a long way towards helping the LA water situation and might make other folks feel more kindly towards them when they try and steal our water
