If you're interested in my Tekken character analysis I have an episode dedicated to Kazuya Mishima lore here: • Kazuya Mishima Charact...
and Paul Phoenix character story here: • Paul Phoenix Character...

Of all the characters who deserved their own spin-off in Tekken, this was the one. Could've made for a fun Shinobi PS2-type game.

Story-wise, I think Yoshi can go the distance with a spin-off (he pretty much combines Tekken's trifecta of fighting, corporate/criminal corruption and mysticism all into one character), but what would a game revolving around a character who intentionally uses moves that confuse his opponents play like?...Actually, if they DO keep the Manji Clan's penchant for misdirection and confusion in mind, it could probably be a fascinating game...Namco, please make this!

There are several individuals from the manju clan who holds the name, Yoshimitsu as it is passed down from generation to generation. From Soul Calibur to Tekken (as from Tekken 1 to 7 is the same person). Yoshimitsu has always been a great character.

Excellent video! I have been a Yoshimitsu fangirl for more than half of my life. He's my absolute favorite character, and I agree that the mystery and enigmatic nature of the character is a large part of his appeal. I also love a lot of the less obvious things about the character, gleaned from the older inserts that used to come in the cases of each new game, where we learned that Yoshimitsu loves video games and sumo wrestling. He steals and drinks and plays video games and he's willing to help almost anyone, even if it turns out badly for him. Such a great character, all around. Of all the characters in Tekken's vast roster, I feel that Yoshimitsu would be the best choice for a standalone solo game.

I think it's safe to say that the three biggest storytelling elements of Tekken are fighting, society's seedy underbelly and mysticism. Yoshimitsu combines all of these things into one character, so I agree wholeheartedly that he'd be prime spin-off material.

This was such a lovely breakdown. I really enjoyed this. I actually based my entire identity as a masked musician on Yoshimitsu. He was the first character I've ever identified with in any video game.

Imagine if Yoshimitsu got his own game. Like Jin's story mode from T5 or T6's story....but good. Basically mechanized-space-ghost-of-tsushima

Not beyond the realms of possibility, they did a Nina Williams spin-off game Death by Degrees too. I'd definitely play a game starring Yoshimitsu!

I always knew that Yoshimitsu (the sword) played a huge role in the Manji Clan's existence and that its supernatural nature is what started to corrupt Yoshimitsu (the man) in Tekken 6, but I never thought of the man naming himself after the sword rather than vice-versa, to say nothing of having abandoned his own identity to keep the Clan going. While I think that Tekken's Yoshi hasn't completely thrown his own identity away just yet (given that he at least used to have hobbies, is good friends with Dr. Bosconovitch despite him having no connection to the Manji and that his hatred of Bryan seems just as personal as it does Clan-related), this view of him you propose certainly paints his act of changing his armor every game (and some other behaviors, I'm sure) in a new light. I have to nitpick his silliness too. He's always been the most eccentric character in the series, but his moves were also designed to confuse opponents and I imagine that his Kabuki dances and other acts are at least a 50/50 split on personal enjoyment and confounding his opponents, since misdirection plays such a big role in Manji tactics; his stories were also always serious right up until Tekken 7, whereas characters like Asuka, Xiaoyu, Roger Jr., the Laws and others introduced a lot of whackiness to the series starting in Tekken 5. It does, however, break my heart that Yoshi was reduced to being an accidental pervert in Tekken 7 and that so many other characters didn't fare much better than him. This is a very good video and I'm so glad someone took the time to analyze not only a fighting game character, but one as bizarre as Yoshimitsu and his faithful wielder, Yoshimitsu.

Really good hearing the story about Yoshimitsu, but besides from his name and sword I think you can also dive into his mentality through his quotes in game, I think it further explains his non-human identity in the setting too.
