Yamamoto has yet to fully demonstrate his strengths. In Japan, he's a better pitcher than Imanaga. He stood out in Japan. He's still not accustomed to the American ball or environment, so the difference between Imanaga and Yamamoto is likely to widen over the next few years. Imanaga might have the upper hand in the first year, but after that, it's likely to be Yamamoto.

Even Shohei Ohtani needed a few years to adjust to the majors. That’s why I believe players who transfer from overseas need some time. It will be a little while longer before their true value becomes apparent.

Yamamoto pitched 8 complete innings with 5 strikeouts and no walks. His first 19 or 20 pitches were strikes (called or swinging), which is absolutely nuts; he has a season high 73 strikes thrown out of 97 pitches. Sure, he gave up 2 homers, but the difference in the ballgame is, he allowed no baserunners. The man is throwing exactly where he wants to. Also can't help but notice that the organ is playing Super Mario and Zelda, which puts a smile on my face every time I hear it.

If you remove his 1 bad start where he was tipping pitches he's had an era of 1.76 and a whip of just .9 Dude is elite, he just needs to aim for the corners more often on his fastball rather than laying it over the middle.
