Yoshitoshi ABe is an illustrator, who also works as a mangaka, character designer, scriptwriter, in addition to teaching in university. He is renowned for his work in character design on iconic anime such as serial experiments lain or NieA_7, he is also the author of Haibane Renmei, a manga which was also turned into anime.
We will first follow ABe to the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Achitectural Museum, which features an outdoor display of real-size traditional Japanese buildings, where ABe practices his recent passion for photography. He explains his struggles on the medium compared to the illustration process.
ABe will then take us to the Jindaiji Temple and Botanical Garden, before telling us more about his 25-year long career and the encounters he made along the way.

I love it when creators talk about their creative process, but I absolutely adore the other 75% of the stuff they do get to that point. Highlighting walks, favourite sites, and hobbies are what makes toco toco so special. It's the experience that builds character in creators' works, and it shows plenty in these videos.

Years 1995-2004 were the golden age of entertainment art. When nobody had any experience back then, and executive ppl were not afraid to take risks. Now, too many artist on the market, too many money, everybody is overthinking things... You can't break as easily into the industry. It's sad because it just don't let happy accident happen.

I think now more people can have access to this art. And it always have been hard to find job as an animator/illustrator. If someone thinks that now is sadder just because someone can have the possibility they couldn't have, thats just selfish. It's sad that since always there are some people that couldnt fulfill their dreams. But that didnt change, the world of art it's still moving because there are a lot of things to discover and that's why if u like art u shouldn't care how much people are in "the industry", and just focus in the good things this era of art is bringing us

I desagree, as an 3d artists I' ve seen the market grow so much after this recent years, you can see projects very unique like Primal, death and robots, Rick and Morty, Scissor Seven, growing in the market now with tecnology because it is getting easier to do with a few people, more independent projects are rising, and companies are trusting in the new, because of that we are getting a lot of new +18 shows, even in anime.

Russian subtitle on "project deck" translated as "черновые наброски" (6:51) is doubtful. Because "черновые наброски" usually means draft drawings while Yoshitoshi saw just brief. Just change "черновые наброски" to "описание персонажа", it would be better.

Dam Jackass plus mangakas get paid as low as $100 a week ( these guys will have to live off of ramen for a long time ) but they say that the artist inside of them is satisfied. Some of the artists even go to hospitals because of exhaustion or hyperventilating. They work for hours and hours non stop it’s rigorous work but the outcome is amazingly beautiful.
