Understanding Mikko, helps me understand some of the things that I do. I’m trying to decide if formal diagnosis as an adult may help because my parents missed a lot of early development signs and opportunities to look into it. Spend my whole life being called “different” instead of being accepted for me and to see that Mikko has a beautiful support system that respects her needs and does their best for her makes me so happy every time.❤

I was officially diagnosed with Autism and a plethora of others when I turned 31 and it was the best decision I ever made. I always felt that I was a weird alien cosplaying a human being, and the diagnosis proved to me that that wasn’t the case. It almost felt like the weight of the world was finally off my shoulders. 😊

What's nice about the diagnosis is that if you see a therapist in the future (for shorts periods like with grief counseling, or long term just as a regular part of your support system), you can give your therapist access to your questionare answers and the diagnosing doctor's notes so that they can understand your specific needs better without you having to spend a bunch of time and energy explaining it to them. I've had a lot of different therapists since I was 15 (mostly because of changes in health insurance and moving around) and it was very taxing and overwhelming to have to explain my background from scratch every time. Having a diagnosis means having documentation that will allow a therapist to get through that "getting to know the patient" stage quicker so they can move on to helping you with whatever you came to them for.

@@ray_1717 autism is a spectrum so it's not always the same! Some people may be nonverbal, some may not, etc etc! I suggest looking into it. It's neurodivergence

As a 40 year old autistic adult, I was not treated with any decency as a kid. It was very demeaning how I was treated by friends and family. Mikko is very fortunate to have such a caring, compassionate & understanding mother like you.

as a teen with autism, i was not supported or even noticed as a child with autism. it was extremely hard and deliberating. thank you for being a wonderful mother. mikko will always remember your motherly love.

This is so true! I see this as an undiagnosed teen with autism and it makes me so happy that this was found early on because sometimes, people with undiagnosed autism can develop BPD. Luckily I haven't, not yet at least, but it hurts my heart to know that some people my age have developed it because they were autistic but nobody acknowledged it or spotted it.

Yep I have bpd and selective mutism never had speech therapy everything was always untreated my parents may love me but they don’t like me the same way they like my siblings just because I’m gay and neglected me my mom did fight for me the same way she did with my sister who also has bpd ptsd but gave up on me so quickly my sister was still receiving help in her 20s and meanwhile my mom just let me drop out didn’t even finish half of 9th grade now I’m completely isolated have extremely highs and lows and I’m in a constant state of fight or flight I don’t blame my family in the present moment but I do wish they were there for me the same way they are there for my siblings now my own parents are strangers to me and honestly people only care when it’s too late and someone hurts themselves meanwhile it will never be to late for my siblings because they always there for them they may love and accept me but that’s just cause were blood they don’t actually like me I feel like I could tell them I’m going to kill myself and they wouldn’t take me seriously yet I feel guilty because regardless of the fact that people only care when it’s too late I couldn’t do that to them but sometimes I feel like the perfect day will come and I’m scared I’ll hurt myself

My son had the same behaviors. He was content playing by himself, had noise sensitivity, lined up things, no tantrums but the whole world fascinated especially light. He was not diagnosed with Autism. As he got older, he had a fetish for light bulbs and flash lights. He's 21 now and built a miniature wash machine, and his on creative light sources, and can build anything you ask him to do. His evaluator said he's a gifted engineer. Please continue to show your little girl the world. She's gifted. Once she understands her environment she's gonna surprise you. You will see her gift come out and you will be so proud of her. You're doing such a great job Mom.!

As someone who recently started working with children, you have made me highly consider an education in special needs. I work with an autistic child (undiagnosed but obvious to me) who is just over 3 and does many of the same things as Mikko (sound sensitivity, high pain threshold, meltdowns, not social, non verbal, etc) and I often learn new things about him through you and Mikko! When we tried to toilet train him he was very persistent on trying to take off his clothes so we had to stop eventually. Now I see maybe it was jeans he always wears which may have been uncomfortable on his skin without a nappy, as he did often itch the area and seem uncomfortable. I'm not sure why I didn't consider it! But I'm so proud of him, he now makes eye contact with some teacher's, plays tag with certain children and teachers who try to play with him often, attempts to do his own shoes, eats with a plate (previously would only eat if it was tipped on the floor or table), mumbles a sing along to certain songs, can count to 10 spontaneously and sometimes when encouraged, recognises some letters and even points at small letters and says things like "A A Apple". And even recently while eating, stopped and grabbed a large teddy bear that he previously had no interactions with as far as I've seen, sat it on the chair beside him, pushed in the chair and began sharing out his chips between himself and the bear evenly, then began eating a chip then feeding the bear a chip, etc. I love that child and his growth is inspiring. Thank you for helping me understand him ❤

There's just something so rewarding from seeing a child who was previously behind in their development to making little progress that for another child wouldn't be a big deal, but for special needs children you know they tried SO hard to get that far.

I am do sorry your parent were ignorant of your needs. My son had ADHA and social anxiety. He was treated horribly. Finally after being slammed into a wall by a male teacher. I went up to the school he was in the first grade. I demanded to see the teacher the principal called the police. They were so helpful. They took me aside an told me to bring charges against the teacher, principal and the school. We won and he was transferred to a private school at no cost to me. They were denied his Constitutional rights to an education. They would make him sit in the supply room or out in the hallway. Not getting an education that way. He's all grown up. Went into the Army. Works for the Government.

I hear you and see you. I used to think I could escape the wrath if I would just sit on the time out chair ahead of time... Like somehow it would make them happy. Cause being put there made them happy? But weirdly I was in more trouble for sitting there ahead of time. He used to use a piece of fire wood to discipline my younger brother, and I remember throwing myself between the two of them. David was literally less than 2. But hey. I'm a bad kid. I resist discipline. Never be your kids first bully. My baby brother deserved better. You deserved better.

My child born with what they called 'Global developmental disability over a decade ago was not diagnosed properly nor was I informed of what exactly her challenges were being a first time mom alone with no support and trying to figure out her challenges on my own.. all I knew to do was love her and encourage her as much as possible but teachers bullying and non stop trips to doctors as well as my own research helped bring her condition to light and a more clear understanding of what her needs were, long story short she can navigate well being twenty- four and living away from home struggling with clinical depression and severe OCD and anxiety attached all I can do is pray for her daily therefore when I read success stories like yours it helps me to focus on the positive side of her journey as well as others, thanks for sharing yours✨☺️🙏🏽

She’s so perfect ❤ Mikko and mom have taught me so much, there’s so many similarities with my daughter who’s now 11, but when she was little she did so many of the same things as Mikko. Lining up toys, high pain tolerance, walking on her toes, and her clothes sensitivity. My baby wouldn’t wear socks till last year and still won’t wear jeans. Also the stimming, she has a blanket my mom got her when she was born. She would sit for hours and rub one corner of that blanket, and she knew which corner it was! She’s rubbed it so much over the years it has a hole in that corner now, but she still sleeps with it 😂💙. She’d also rub her nose with the blanket until she fell asleep at night.

my son was the same way with lot of same behaviors but he has outgrown most of them. He still has meltdowns but they are controlled with medicine. He wasn't a meat eater ,he learning to meat of some of kind. He still has a high tolerance for pain. As she grows older as some those behaviors she won't do anymore. it will get better.. My son is 21.

God bless you momma. We are dealing with the same things with my oldest grandson. Doctors have brushed us off for a while saying "he's developing his own personality" but my daughter and I both knew that wasn't the case. We're waiting for a referral to the Autism Center. Prayers please.❤

Watching videos like this makes me feel so grateful for todays world. So much sensitivity and understanding. And my heart reaches out for kids with parents who arent aware of things like autism and try to beat the tantrums and other symptoms out of the kid at a young age

Whoooo Chile. I'm in tears. My daughter is 6 years old . She is diagnosed with autism spectrum. It's a struggle daily but We got to be strong. She is a beautiful child. May God bless you and your family 🙏🏾

I'm not in your shoes, but I had other problems with my daughter. I searched a lot and stumbled on a woman called Natasha Campbell McBride, she wrote some books and I believe one was called gut and psychology or something like that. She said here on KZfaq that it could help with autism like it did for her son. I don't know, but maybe it is worth checking out? All the best for you.

This made me cry. She’s so lucky to have such a supportive and loving family that accommodates to her disability rather than expecting her to accommodate her disability to them. -Autistic person

My adult son had a number of these sensitivities. He was very particular about food and smelt odours we couldn't smell.

I was pretty much like her. I still squint my eyes a lot or just wear sunglasses and certain sounds make me shiver feel like electric shock, so earplugs are always with me. Now I understood why I felt so sick as soon as the car doors was open. Smells from the inside. And many other things. Your daughter is wonderful I wish her and you all the best!

She is an absolute gift to the whole world. Thanx for sharing her with us, spreading awareness and educating us through yours and her story. I know being autistic comes with unusual challenges, however we also have to remember the amazing talents and joys autistic people bring to this world; those should celebrated and highlighted as much as possible. I feel like these children are under estimated because they do things differently. We are the ones that are different. My grandchild always wow me because I'm aware she does things differently. Amazingly how she brings tears to my eyes by the way she approaches things. It is so beautiful and priceless how she teaches me.

I have an automatic big love for kids on the spectrum. My son is also on the spectrum and has taught me to love like I never thought I was capable of. God bless your family, especially this sweet girl 🥰

I'm classed as "high-functioning" autistic (which is a term i hate) & i was diagnosed as an adult. But so many of Mikko's symptoms match my own: - eye squinting (although i am short sighted so jury is out on what the actual root cause is) - lining up/sorting items (one of my favourite pasttimes was sorting my mum's button box by colour and type...) - clothing textures (i couldn't wear denim until my teens & i still can't wear wool) - food texture preference - i can't eat "lumpy" foods - meltdowns - i would have crying fits for hours, but my parents treated it like i was throwing a tantrum (Also, i wanted to add that i am in a loving 16-year relationship & in the process of qualifying as a chartered management accountant. I see so many parents concerned about how successful their autistic children will be, in a world that is not designed for us. But i wanted to give you a little hope that Mikko can & will flourish. She has loving & supportive parents, which is more than a lot of people have, so i am confident that she will achieve the exact life that she deserves ❤)

Your videos help so much with my autistic son. Learning new ways to help with his meltdowns or him simply trying to communicate. It takes a lot of patience but it’s well worth it and I thank you and your daughter mikko for sharing you guys journey 🫶🏽🫶🏽
