AHHHH I remember the days I could rep out sets of 20 but that was in my 50's now 3 months away from 70 and shoulders just don't want to do it but still trying 4 days a week to lift. I will never see sets of 20 again but I still keep training. Way to go Chadd.

I'm 42 years old and a retired Navy veteran. I always try to implement push-ups when I work from home. 25 every hour, along with 25 sit-ups and 25 air squats. On my off days from work (3-4 days a week), I hit the gym and go hard. As we age, it's important to maintain physical fitness, even when our "check engine" light comes on regarding our joints or pre-existing injuries.

35 y.o. 8 major surgeries, 2 total joint replacements. And for shitz n giggles I broke 2 vertebrea in my back about 2.5-3 months ago😂 oddly enough push ups don't hurt my back. I always try and do 100 a day, wide width, shoulder width, diamonds, and incline. I mix em up. Honestly varying the type of push up has SERIOUSLY benefited my total overall arm strength snd stamina. Plus.. big old pecks and then triceps from the diamonds. I need to work back up because I've been down for sooooo long so many times over the last 4 years. Its been a battle. Gain strength and build. Surgery recovery and lose some of it. Build up. Surgery snd recovery just over and over it feels like.

Hey, Chadd. I'm 70 years old and have been active all of my life. Lately, I've been taking it easy on myself and it's beginning to show. I'm going to give this a shot. I just now tried, and I could only get out eight, and I don't know if I can do another eight after only one minute. But I'm going to work on this and see what happens. Thanks for providing the incentive to improve. I love your videos. Keep up the good work! God bless you.

Try doing only two workouts per week as follows: Warm up muscle group (2 60-70% fatigue sets) Then 1 set to total muscle failure, fight it until you give out. Worked for me and a buddy. In 2.5 months I went from around 40 push ups to 85. Dips went from 18 to 50 and pull-ups went from 12 to over 30. It works. And it won’t wear you down like high volume.
@Sam_Iamknot
@Sam_Iamknot 6 ай бұрын
Working to failure is not a good idea for this gentleman, he's 70yo, as a basic human that is already much wear on the human physique. Not attempting to battle with you, but for a person that age it's not wise to push your body/muscles to failure like that; reason being is the recovery time is vastly much longer for full regrowth and recovery. It's better at that age to have a full day of resting those muscles-worked, and go for a 3 mile walk, and hydrate along with a high protein, semi-fattening diet; could always eat leaner on the workout days.@@jnananinja7436

I’m almost 63 and have been working out religiously since the 7th grade. There was only maybe, 1 or 2 years in my 20’s that I didn’t. However I started noticing my health deteriorating so I thought, forget this and began again, never stopping. I tried that push up routine yesterday 12/25/23 and it felt amazing! I haven’t done pushups in many years because it has been less stress on my back doing just bench presses! Chadd, your suggestion of doing 5 push ups, rest 1 minute then do 5 more push ups, for a total of 10 sets will be added to my workout routine! Thank you! God Bless!

Kudos, man. I'm 56, too and before my rotator cuff injury at 54/55, I was doing 100 / day, sometimes 120. I think many years of pulling 250 lb patients from gurneys to CT tables snd back, all by myself, caused a lot of degeneration which, when I started doing push-ups, shredded the tendons and caused the damage. Thankful for a successful surgery and PT and it's GTG- full range of motion, pain free and strong, but just to be safe, I now do inclined push-ups so it's less stress on the joint, but still builds strength, and can help get those pesky lower pecs, too.

I certainly appreciate the concept of combat readiness and physical effectiveness. I also, as an older man with physical limitations, have to consider real capabilities and appropriate strategies for maximizing effectiveness. Something as simple as getting yourself off the ground and back on your feet may require a different or multiple different techniques. By training these scenarios I have been able to find what works best for me and strengthen the muscle groups needed and increase my speed. Doing push-ups is great but you also need to train for potential real life situations. Full kit, up and move!

Went unbroken no problem. I think your test is a good marker to see if you are making progress and where you are at. I'm going to increase by 2 reps per set until I hit failure, mark that and then continue work to push passed that. Good content and ideas here!

Is this advice out there to be cautious with them and build up slowly for safety that I've missed, or is it due to the weight difference? You have 30 kg on me and are taller so obviously they'd be a lot harder.

Nice variations. My favorite pushup these days is a deficit pushup with pushup handles stacked on bumper plates in my 50lb weighted vest. I’ve loaded those up to 100lbs before but it cuts the reps down so far that I can’t get enough volume so I find the 50 pounder works better.

Good program. I started driving truck last year and realized after a bit that I had time to get some exercise in while being unloaded. Started doing sets of push-ups, body weight dips, and body weight squats on different days of the week. Worked it up to 10 sets of 17 in short order and finally decided I was in good enough shape to hit the gym again. That cost me zero of my own time cuz I was on the clock waiting to be unloaded anyway...just a few stares from the factory workers and other truckers. Haha!

Good video, at 68 doing an every other day workout seems to be fine for me. What ever anyones situation just don't stop moving. We should be able to save or carry your own butt out of a jamb and realistically take someone with you on your way out of that jamb. Stay ready.

My 12 year old and I do this same method only we are doing Diamond Push ups and we incline our feet with each rep which puts the weight on the front end. Very difficult but the results are undeniable. Some things I learned in the Navy never die!!

I'll be trying this. Thanks for the info. Besides you can do push up's anywhere. I ride bicycles both mountain and road. When I get to the turn around point to go back home I'll stop and do 10 push ups. Also, I'll have to incorporate some push ups when I'm swimming laps.

Chad I’m 65, but very physical, I have a bad left shoulder that is prone to dislocation. Can’t do the flat push ups, but I do 3 sets of 40 everyday before I shower. I do them using the sink counter in the bathroom so I’m more at a 45% angle, but it does help me keep the movement going. Thanks for the inspiration.

Had the same issues with shoulder dislocation until I started focusing on training rear delts best to train side and rear front usually gets enough if doing push-ups/bench press

The state of our individual people (fat, unfit, distracted, stressed, mentally ill, addicted) is reflected in the state of society. I pray the American people can start to give a damn about themselves because everything starts with the individual. I was borderline obese, early 40s and turned things around in 5 years. Now I do weighted pushups 35 lbs 4 sets 10, 10, 9, 7 on pushup handles for extra depth. Not superstar level at all, and so many people are far beyond that, but for me it's something.
