I love this video. What realtor talks about this? We plan to move to western NC within this year. We love to eat and so, of course, love Asheville. However, we are going to prefer to live near someplace like Waynesville and then pop into Asheville sometimes to go to,eat. Waynesville and other areas do have great restaurants, but I have never seen the spectacular food scene that Asheville has. We think that living near a smaller town and then popping into Asheville now for a wonderful meal now and then is the best of both worlds! You are absolutely right. I want to add to your advice in the video. Think long and hard about a lot of things you enjoy and don't currently enjoy, what do you want in a home. We went smaller because my kids are gone and living elsewhere on their own. We went from a 4000sqft home to under 1300sqft. Sometimes that size, it's still too much as me and my wife. We are minimalist types. We are busy bodies and always out and about. So really, we need a small space and bed, and we are good. We don't have cars, boats and outdoor vehicles. We did when we were younger. You mature out of things. Big decider for us was our ability to finish our careers in this area and move into retirement. We went through a lot of interviews until the money was acceptable for our long-term goals. I want to say this loud and clear; you have to be patient in the matter of a job. This is not a big city with 8 hospitals in a 45mile radius if you were like where we came from and there was an abundance of work. Yes, AVL is a hot spot but it's much smaller in job offerings. I want to be real here, smaller city, less jobs. I lived here in AVL for almost two years before another medical opportunity came for my wife. It took time. Keep that in mind job seeker. You may have to better your career or play the waiting game. I always tell people. Spend time in and around AVL first before you move here. We did this. We spent at least six months in AVL before saying ok this is it. Guess what we settled near Arden NC. While AVL is nice there are so many other surrounding towns that are just as nice. It is very easy to get caught up in what I call "eye candy" of the views and outdoors. Your brain says LOVE, its beautiful. How much time are you going to spend outdoors? With being in medical I enjoy my back yard on normal weeks. Then we head out to farmer markets and events in the surrounding areas. Hiking in the last 5 years maybe 5 times. We do a lot of picnicking vs hiking. When you mentioned there is not a lot of homes or space to build. This isn't a bad thing. Its best if it stays this way because this area needs to retain its nature and beauty. If we let building of homes get carried away. Then those views will turn in to views of buildings, commercial property or a parking lot. I don't know about everyone else, but I like the mountain views vs buildings.
