It's odd. I'm apparently an outlier, I've NEVER looked at recommendations and go straight to my subscriptions. And I don't assume there's nothing new there, I check my top channels (including this one) daily or every other day, to see if there's something new. Waiting for KZfaq to spoon-feed you stuff and not even checking to see if there's anything, or looking through the back catalog of your favorite channels, seems so weird and ... passive.

Honestly, using Shadlands as a supercut channel was a great idea and can funnel more people to the main channel even if the algorithm is not on your side currently

@@All_Hail_Chael I think you may have had other interests and stopped watching his content for a while. That's when the recommendation shifted to the other new contents that you've been viewing (the rabbit hole) and this channel stop being recommended. Only when you started seeing his videos again that KZfaq knows that you're still interested in the content and putting them back in the recommended list. If you really like this channel's content and want to keep viewing, make sure to put the bell notification to all and check the bell every day and don't let it stack up. I believe some time ago, KZfaq changed the notification scheme and notification stopped until you renew it. Might want to recheck that if you're already did turn it on before.

@@All_Hail_Chael youtube algorithm is so deeply based on copying your viewing history that the only thing it can do is recommend videos with same word patterns in the title, or in the video description. So if you stop watching even for like a 10-hour (viewing) period, and aren't subscribed which is your own fault of course, and your history gets backed up with all different types of videos the algorithm will just think you're no longer interested in Shad.

Now If I could only combine my old homes forge with my current homes hammers and anvil I will I start working 4-10 days so maybe I'll get around to it this summer. You should see the original video that started this off 😂 Shad, for his faults, is as genuine a 'tuber as you'll find. "He may be a fool, but he's an honest fool." It is not possible to say that about most of the "swordtubers".

Man, I remember subscribing during the OG wooden throne days of the channel and have absolutely love watching this channel grow as ive grown up as a person in my own life. Since learning more about how the algorithm works, even when your videos appeared at the homepage, I still go to the subscriptions tab to click and view. And commenting "I love ALL Shadiversity videos" helps getting more videos recommended. The algorithm picks that up, whereas the algorithm is set to ignore comments like "for the algorithm".

I guess the easiest things active subscribers can do to help is don't rely on the recommended feed, but manually check your subscription feed every so often. I know Shad said something like that towards the end, but it bears repeating.

I've gotten quite a few comments on my channel of people saying things like "why did KZfaq show me this? I hate this type of content!" etc, etc. But at the same time, some of my most dedicated subscribers have told me they only found my content because KZfaq randomly recommended it. Granted, I'm nowhere near the size of Shadiversity (around 550 subs as of writing this) so take this for whatever it's worth, but what Shad's saying still rings very true for me.

I checked out your channel. The videos are really good at wide ranging in topic. I think you'll blow up tbh if you hit on the right topic and milk it for all its worth. Or stick with a specific style of video structure and type.

The dumbest thing there is, cause they posted a comment on your video... the algorithm counts that as engagement, so they are going to get more recommendations for that content. Hahaha That is how the rabbit hole becomes a sink hole

Use the push-pull method. Push away CNN and similar ilk by clicking “…” and chose “Do not recommend channel”. The pull-method is subscribing to channels you like. If more people use this method, it’ll be clear to the algorithm what people want to see.

One content producer accuses Shad of panhandling, as he is doing a live stream reading Superchats, and agreeing with Shads findings. I keep thinking Shad should do live streams, but considering the time zone he'd probably need to do it in Chinese ☹.

One thing I've noticed is that KZfaq rarely recommends video that I haven't watched. I didn't know about about any upload from this channel since mid January unless I've manually went on the channel page. But I have been recommended hundreds of Shadiversity videos I have seen.

I live in the UK and have kids who have begun to have a lot of interest in history, particularly Medieval history, and have visited several castles over the last year or so. I was searching youtube, in the last month, for videos of UK castles to see if they would be worth visiting with the kids. I've also been subscribed to Shadiversity for at least 5 years. Not one of Shad's castle videos, let alone the ones form the UK, came up in the searches. Definitely something screwy with the algorithm at the moment! Hopefully, things start to pick up for you again and that Shadlands starts to really take off! I'll be checking it out and subscribing.

Good for you shad. I hob the views keeps increasing. ^^ Even as a viewer, I noticed the changes in the algorithm. Not only were some things no longer offered to me, it was only when I went into the channels and selected and viewed the content by hand that things got better, the type of videos also changed. Not in terms of content, but in terms of the length of the videos. I watch a few channels that make videos of very different durations: 12m, 24m, 1h, sometimes 2h. 90% of what the algorithm offered me were only the 10 to 14m videos. It was only later at the end of March to mid-April that I got him to voluntarily show me 24 to 29m again. Because i prefer these and selected them by hand often.

I'm so glad to hear this. After a long while of not seeing many notifications from KZfaq for anything from you up until your last video about the state of the channel I've been watching a bunch of your content again and have been really enjoying it. So glad to see that you are pulling through for now. I really hope that it continues to improve for you.
