I learned to DJ on vinyl. I'm glad I did it since it taught me a lot of things, but it's by no means the only or even best way. When I switched to digital I got a Hercules DJ Console Mk 4. It's honestly pretty bad but I still have it because it still works and it does everything you absolutely need from a controller. As long as you can learn the basics you can apply that knowledge to anything. Only real advantage to learning on specific gear is muscle memory and that's not strictly necessary for all types of DJing.

Any tips on going digital? I feel I might be ready, but turning vinyl into digital has me so scared on how long it will take and quality of the finished tunes. I am thinking of getting a DJM-900nxs2 with 2 CDJ-200Nexus. It seems to be the closest to old school mixing. Thank you for your time

Just buy the digital versions of the vinyl you want to DJ with. It is not worth the hassle to rip it, unless you cannot buy a digital version. What you outline is 100% pro gear, you really don't need that, but if it's what you want, it's the industry standard so you won't go wrong. You may want to try a simple, cheap controller and laptop first though, then it becomes your backup system when you do upgrade (at which point you'll know what you want to upgrade to). A FLX4 is a good start.

i Learned to dj with a cassette deck and a ceramic needle turntable sight cue for records and meter cue for cassette deck then graduated to 2 Goldring turntables with a variable resistor as a mixer then discovered a mixer with head phone cue and the turntables were pitch control as I was updating incorporated the new gear with the old to phase out old gear such conversion from record to cd the came the controller and the computer and phased that in so the whole setup changed after perfecting controller

As a ddj200 user myself, i would advice, if havent already, dive into midi mapping this lil boi. In rekordbox what i have now as a setup for home parties (trance/techno/electro), that is: manual looper, switching CFX, 3 hotcues, 1 fx unit, beatjump and moving a loop + some other stuff. My feeling aboit this now is that to squeeze more to play with i need to use Traktor (because mapping there is way more powerfull)... This is to have more CDJ-like controlls and for fun , i can share final mapping for Rekordbox if that sounds promising.

I can dj on anything but i will it sound the way i sound on the right equipment. Some faders are just too slow. I also don’t like effects that i have to click something to go from one side to the next. Saying this because I’m 60 and been a good DJ one 2 turn tables and a mixer. At 15 i was the main house DJ from age of 15 years old for 10 years. I’ll take my sb3 anywhere and put on a show. Great video info is great.

I started to dj on turntables back in the 90s on vinyl… I still have it all today. Ive had cdjs but found them really boring (personal taste) so for new music I use traktor dvs, but I also use 2 traktor X1 mk2s without any kind of turntables to do live remixing. There is still far too much negativity over new gear and how you should be djing. Unfortunately it’s in many aspects of creativity. I also love photography and trust me photography gear snobbery is rife but at the end of the day like you say all cameras take photos. For me djing is all about the music. It lifts my mood, chills me out and gives me some relief from the hassles of life lol…. Everyone should just use what they want to dj and everyone else should just learn to accept it. Remember it’s all about the music….. There….. rant over.

DJ Stuc will be judging you if you have some tiny DJ-To-Go controller or DJ from your phone. The crowd won’t know but DJ Stuc the DJ God will look at that negatively. Firstly, no need to be rude. Politeness costs nothing. DJing is about playing other people's records. You can do that and deliver a great party on all kinds of gear. This video is about not obsessing about gear to the detriment of learning/doing the actual DJing.

Complete BS. There are numerous examples of professional guitarists and bassists playing Squiers and Epiphones which further proves the point. John Mayer/BB King etc. will sound great on every guitar even the market ones for 50$. Amateur without skills, without practice will sound terrible on most expensive Les Pauls, Fenders etc... Same applies to drummers mentioned by you... Keep practising and you'll be ale to do miracles on any gear.
