Louise Lynn Hay (October 8, 1926 - August 30, 2017) was an American motivational author and the founder of Hay House. She authored several New Thought self-help books, including the 1984 book You Can Heal Your Life.
Life and career
Born Helen Vera Lunney in Los Angeles to parents Henry John Lunney (1901-1998) and Veronica Chwala (1894-1985), Hay recounted her life story in an interview with Mark Oppenheimer of The New York Times in May 2008.[1] In it, Hay stated that she was born in Los Angeles to a poor mother who remarried Louise's violent stepfather, Ernest Carl Wanzenreid (1903-1992), who physically abused her and her mother. When she was about 5, she was raped by a neighbor. At 15, she dropped out of University High School in Los Angeles without a diploma, became pregnant and, on her 16th birthday, gave up her newborn baby girl for adoption. She then moved to Chicago, where she worked in low-paying jobs. In 1950, she moved on again, to New York. At this point she changed her first name, and began a career as a fashion model. She achieved success, working for Bill Blass, Oleg Cassini, and Pauline Trigère. In 1954, she married the English businessman Andrew Hay (1928-2001); after 14 years of marriage, she felt devastated when he left her for another woman, Sharman Douglas (1928-1996).[1] Hay said that about this time she found the First Church of Religious Science on 48th Street, which taught her the transformative power of thought. Hay revealed that here she studied the New Thought works of authors such as Florence Scovel Shinn who believed that positive thinking could change people's material circumstances, and the Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes who taught that positive thinking could heal the body.[2]
By Hay's account, in the early 1970s she became a religious science practitioner. In this role she led people in spoken affirmations, which she believes would cure their illnesses, and became popular as a workshop leader. She also recalled how she had studied Transcendental Meditation with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at the Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa.[1]
Hay described how in 1977 or 1978 she was diagnosed with "incurable" cervical cancer, and how she came to the conclusion that by holding on to her resentment for her childhood abuse and rape she had contributed to its onset. She reported how she had refused conventional medical treatment, and began a regime of forgiveness, coupled with therapy, nutrition, reflexology, and occasional colonic enemas. She claimed in the interview that she rid herself of the cancer by this method, but, while swearing to its truth, admitted that she had outlived every doctor who could confirm this story.[1]
In 1976, Hay wrote her first book, Heal Your Body, which began as a small pamphlet containing a list of different bodily ailments and their "probable" metaphysical causes.[1] This pamphlet was later enlarged and extended into her book You Can Heal Your Life, published in 1984.[3] In February 2008, it was fourth on the New York Times paperback advice bestsellers list.[4]
Around the same time she began leading support groups for people living with HIV/AIDS, which she called "Hay Rides".[1] These grew from a few people in her living room to hundreds of men in a large hall in West Hollywood, California. Her work with AIDS patients drew fame and she was invited to appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Phil Donahue Show in the same week, in March 1988. Following this, You Can Heal Your Life immediately landed on the New York Times bestseller list. More than 50 million copies sold around the world in over 30 languages[1][5] and it also has been made into a movie.[6] You Can Heal Your Life is also included in the book 50 Self-Help Classics[7] for being significant in its field. It is often described as a part of the New Age movement.
Hay wrote, on page 225 of her book (December 2008 printing), that it has "... sold more than thirty five million copies".[8] It was announced in 2011 that You Can Heal your Life had reached 40 million sales.[9]
Hay died in her sleep on the morning of August 30, 2017, at age 90.

(Intro) 2:14 What we give out, we get back ; and what we believe about ourselves becomes true 2:50 Every thought we think and word we speak creates our experiences and future 3:13 The universe accepts us at our own value 3:34 When we grow up we re-create the emotional environment we had as a child 6:14 We create our future by our thoughts and actions of today 7:11 Believe everyone is always helpful 8:46 Self-hatred and guilt: the less we have the better our life works 9:54 Resentment, criticism, fear, & guilt cause problems in our lives 10:36 Guilt seeks (self) punishment 10:49 Love, joy, & forgiveness are the healers 11:17 If you can't express love and joy, forgiveness is the answer 12:12 If you feel like you're always criticized, you have a belief that you deserve it 13:01 If people criticize you, it's possible that YOU too are critical 13:28 Say, "I am willing to change the patterns in my consciousness" 13:54 The Universe and your subconscious constantly respond to your thoughts and words 14:36 It's foolish to punish ourselves in the NOW for things from the past 14:53 Dissolve resentment 15:49 Your life will become a mirror of your inner experience 15:57 Release the pain of the past and forgive 16:29 Forgiving allows you to be free 16:56 There's only 1 thing to teach: love (self-approval, self-acceptance, no criticism) 19:04 You may have an inner belief that you "don't deserve" (the good things in life) (I Should) 20:04 Ask yourself WHY you feel like you "should" do this or that 20:52 "Should" is like saying you're wrong 21:09 All of life is choice 21:17 Throw away your "shoulds" with "could" 21:54 "If I really wanted to, I could" (instead of saying "should") 22:56 We're often angry at ourselves for not doing our "shoulds" (Self-Love) 24:18 We don't love ourselves when we scold & criticize ourselves, create pain for ourselves, mistreating our bodies, misusing food, alcohol, drugs ; believing we are unlovable ; procrastinating, creating debt 25:17 Denying our good is not loving ourselves 26:08 If good comes into our lives and we deny it (or push it away), this shows we don't love ourselves and need to improve our self-esteem 26:28 We often believe we're not good enough 27:30 Babies are full of love & life, they ask for what they want, they express their feelings freely, they live in the NOW, they have no shame and no guilt, and don't compare themselves 28:21 Where did you lose your love for yourself? 28:34 Look in the mirror and say, "I love and accept you exactly as you are" 29:36 How WE feel about ourselves is what matters (What's Wrong With Me?) 30:26 Why do you criticize yourself? What's "wrong" with you? 31:13 Is your list full of "too" (you're "too" this or that) 31:30 Sounds like you're saying you're not "good enough" (not loving yourself) 31:54 How did we get to feeling unlovable, unworthy, and not good enough? 33:29 We need to clean our mental houses (Negative Messages from Parents) 35:30 All those negative messages are in your subconscious, unless you let them go 36:13 You create negative experiences because you BELIEVE your negative messages 37:39 When you scold a child, they'll cower and learn to behave like a goody-goody, or they'll rebel, and we'll never really know their true potential and selves 37:54 Tell them how wonderful they are, how much we love them, how beautiful they are, how we love the way they do things, that they're creative, and that it's ok to make mistakes 39:16 If we BLAME others, we stay as VICTIMS and stay stuck in our problems 39:46 We need to have understanding & compassion for our parents, instead of just blaming 41:06 You can't free yourself until you free (forgive) THEM (your parents) 43:16 Messages of limitation come from many places (parents, teachers, society, media, etc.) 43:32 It doesn't matter what other people say about us: what matters is what WE believe 43:46 "Teach Only Love" book by Gerald Jampolsky 43:50 If you want to increase your spiritual growth or get out a of a problem, choose happy thoughts 44:15 Don't think about the past, failures, how things went wrong or might go wrong 44:59 The negative messages are true only if YOU believe them 47:50 We create our circumstances through our beliefs 47:57 If you were told "it's your fault," you're going to feel guilty most of your life 48:16 If you believed no one loved you, you'll have no romances or short romances 48:40 Stop accepting other people's limitations that they put on you 49:15 There is no good or bad ; it's what we make of them 51:00 Don't say anything that you don't want to be true (no negative self-talk) 51:35 There is not something to DO, there is something to KNOW 51:51 Decide to change 52:58 Getting angry is wasting energy 54:20 Clean your consciousness and mind 54:30 Flow 54:47 Look in the mirror and say, "I'm willing to change and release the resistance" 55:10 We want others and circumstances to change, but we have to change OURSELVES 56:18 Impatience is a sign of resistance (and you should avoid resistance) 57:15 What we resist the most is often what we most need to learn 57:43 You didn't come here to be miserable and unfulfilled. We are here to give of ourselves, learn from and teach others (Ways We Resist) 58:26 Leaving the room, doing something else, pretending not to hear, assuming things ("it won't do any good"), beliefs, blame, procrastinating, fear 1:00:09 Change YOUR life first before trying to influence others 1:01:41 When the student is ready, the teacher appears 1:01:53 If you want love and acceptance, you must give it out 1:02:23 Give (do) unto others as you would have them give (do) unto you 1:02:34 Look into your eyes and say, "I am willing to change" 1:02:45 What belief of yours is in the way of your change? 1:03:03 We create habits and problems to fulfill needs 1:03:36 Deal with the real issues, not the outer effects 1:03:59 Your needs can be met in more positive ways 1:04:16 I'm willing to release the need for this problem/resistance 1:04:26 Procrastination & resentment are forms of resistance 1:04:47 If you're jealous of others, you'll create resistance to good in YOUR life 1:05:15 Many of us feel like victims, but "victims "will remain stuck 1:05:55 How can we be happy and free if the child within us is miserable and frightened? 1:06:10 Be gentle, kind, and comforting with your inner child 1:06:35 When your issues are gone your life will be different (How Do I Change?) 1:07:05 Sometimes things seem to get worse when you try to improve (but that'll pass) 1:07:45 Some experiences are part of the process of releasing the junk of the past 1:07:57 Divine Right Action is working for your highest good 1:08:09 Say, "all my changes are comfortable, easy, and fun. All is well in my life." 1:08:41 Say, "I have created this problem and now I'm willing to release that pattern" 1:09:20 Don't worry about "how," just have the willingness/desire to change 1:09:30 The Universal Intelligence and subconscious will figure out the "how" 1:09:45 Whatever shifts happen, see them as positive 1:09:48 Your thoughts don't control you. YOU control your thoughts 1:11:05 To change a habit takes practice. Believe it's easy 1:11:30 When you control your mind you become powerful 1:11:55 Choose thoughts that make your future fun, loving, joyful, & prosperous 1:12:52 Gentle, firm insistence and consistency 1:13:10 We don't (always) have to work hard for things. We can practice letting go 1:13:53 If your body is tense, that means your mind is tense. Relax. 1:14:10 "I am willing to let go. I release. I relax. I release fear, anger, guilt, sadness, limitations, my parents. I am willing to forgive. I am at peace. I am safe. I am me. It is safe to be me. I let go. I am at peace." 1:15:30 Don't swallow your anger. Release it in positive way 1:17:07 If we don't release our tensions, the past holds us back 1:17:19 "I choose to live in the NOW and build a wonderful new future." 1:17:47 Foolish limitations and beliefs we set for ourselves at times 1:17:55 Release emotional attachments to the past (What I'm Willing to Let Go Of) 1:18:30 Make a list of all the things you're willing to let go of

Most Metaphysical beliefs are that we pass over to the other side when we die and our lives will be reviewed for us to look at what we’ve done bad during this lifetime so we don’t repeat it again.It’s Karma ,so not your job to reprimand someone it will come back to them .
@Fire-Toolz

your definition of forgiveness may be different from what louise is meaning to communicate. to me, forgiveness is unrelated to the other person. it’s something you do for yourself, and though you can work toward it, which comes spontaneously. it just means you are releasing something, not saying what they did is okay or relinquishing them of consequences or lessons. eye for an eye is not consequences. eye for an eye is revenge, punishment, vengeance. it’s the opposite of what she is teaching, and it still doesn’t mean consequences (karma) are not due.

@@christiansamaroo yeah but people don't care. They'll be an asshole or whatever and not care. That's just how people are. And some people are never caught, or wrongly convicted. You have ideas of life being fair and it's not. It's a terrible hell. Some people get relief but thinking that is a law goes against nature. People suck. Period.
