A bunch of us tried this years ago. (Different book, same idea.) It needs an extremely strong shoulder and hand along with hitting the fork perfectly into the sidewall. Needless to say, I wasn't able to do it. Only the 6' 10" dude in the group made it work. The rest of us felt so puny! It helps if the tire is overinflated.

It certainly is possible. Though not probable. And would likely take several tries. But this is fiction, so it doesn't really matter. I hate when people analyze every second of a movie and have to tell everyone watching it how unrealistic it is. WE. DON'T. CARE. I've read every Reacher novel in the series. Loved them all. So far, I'm loving the series. And Alan Richson was cast perfectly in this role. Unlike Cruise in the 2 movies based on the series.

In the defense of those saying that some things aren't realistic, I have to admit that I do this myself sometimes, though I DON'T tell everyone else watching. Have you ever seen the 2013 movie "The Call", staring Halle Berry? She's a dispatcher in the movie. EVERYTHING she does, is unrealistic. I know. I was a 911 tele-communicator (dispatcher) for 11 years. As a result, the movie sucked. For me anyway. For those unaware how 911 dispatch works, I'm sure it was fine. Same goes for action movies with those long, drawn out, fight scenes. If you've ever seen a real fight, you know that the human body can't take the kind of injuries people in the movies portray, for that amount of time, and remain conscious. But if it's fiction, it doesn't matter. Right? Maybe not. I once got a call from a young lady who went with some others to a party. She became uncomfortable there, and called 911, asking for police to come and take her home. But she had not idea where she was. She got mad when I told her I needed an address, or at least the nearest cross streets. and said, "Bitch, just triangulate it". I had to inform her that this is real life, not "Law and Order", and in real life, dispatch centers didn't have that ability. Since she was using a cell phone, we could find out what cell tower her called pinged, but that would leave a lot of ground for police to cover in order to find her. And could be completely wrong, given that we were on a river, and the call might have pinged off of a tower on the other side. This happens all the time. She finally walked down to the nearest intersection, and gave me the cross streets. And she waited there for police. But you see the problem, right? People see things on television, and in movies, and they think it is all real. So calling out the ridiculousness in movies and tv shows isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I wouldn't do it during the show. 🤷🏼‍♀
@Reflectionmaterial
@Reflectionmaterial Ай бұрын
In fact human bodies can soak up a ton of damage. There are cases of people taking mutliple gunshot or knife stabs and not even notiticing it who keep on fighting without pause or dying hours later from wounds All depends on the placement of the injury and how quickly organs will shut down. With adrenaline the person will keep going till the organs shut down, which can take a LONG time.
@trudyisaacs840
@trudyisaacs840 Ай бұрын
@@Reflectionmaterial I never said they would die. But most people are going to pass out. The average person's psyche isn't equipped to handle that much pain. Unless they're on meth. Then, their brain isn't functioning normally. And yeah, they might actually continue fighting after being shot multiple times.
@Reflectionmaterial
@Reflectionmaterial Ай бұрын
@@trudyisaacs840 the pain will slow you down in a normal situation (like sports, or if you break ankle falling down stairs etc). If you are inside a burning house and you break your ankle, you will not even feel it and run on that broken ankle out of the house. Same with life and death combat. Your body willl ignore the pain as it's a warning system, but at that moment it does not matter as you are going to die anyway. No brain no pain. There are a bunch of books about this. Check out: gate control theory. Either way: folks who keep fighting despite horrible injuries is actually more real than a henchman collapsing because of a single knife stab or a kick to his nuts.

Literally the most boring show ever because of course the main character is a Mary Sue. Next episode they will probably have him standing next to an atom bomb and it will only give him an even tan. If your hero can never be hurt or lose then there is no conflict, there not stakes to the drama. I'm not talking about him being arrested. I'm talking about him losing a fight now and then. Him being arrested is no threat because we already know that the writers will just hand wave it all away.

You and I have VERY different ideas of what constitutes a 'Mary Sue' character. Rey from the Disney Star Wars movies comes to mind. Jack's good in a fight but I have no difficulty believing there are things he struggles with. Rey was made perfect at everything and only worked the bare minimum to improve when the plot demanded she needed to 'struggle'.
@NickSteffen

You can’t just call every character that you don’t like a Mary sue…. Mary Sue’s have no personality. Reacher definitely has one. The fact that his plot armor is nuke proof is the problem, also while the dialog is decent the overall narrative is bad and the villains in particular are meh and without nuance. The author clearly tried to make them overly aggressive but they come across as laughably so, and to the detriment of their interests.
