All of them have multi-billion-dollar endowments accrued from donations by wealthy alumni over generations, and this wealth insulates their current generation of leaders from anger from state governments, the general population, and often their own alumni. These so-called "elite" universities have an outsize affect on mainstream American culture, politics and economics, and their destructive influence must either change or be greatly reduced.

It would be better if federal funds were channeled into enabling disadvantaged students to access short technical courses at private providers that deliver the skills employers really need, or to establish new state technical colleges to deliver such courses. Even most high-tech jobs don't require degrees, certainly not liberal arts degrees. They require employees with technical skills only, not employees with radical ideas. Most companies at best need a relatively small number of people with advanced degrees. Even high-tech giants are starting to remove their requirements for degrees for many jobs, preferring to train people without degrees that they can start on much lower salaries. Many colleges have failed to keep up with the times, and employers are increasingly rejecting employing radical thinkers in favour of people who provide hard skills and don't infect the workplace with radical ideologies.

My condolences on seeing your country go down the tubes. I had visited Sydney twice for work, and enjoyed the city and a few of the surrounding locations. I didn't see a funnel web spider at the Blue Mountains, and was a bit disappointed.
