The dream of "making it" seems increasingly out of reach, if not impossible. In this talk, Jay Swanson shares how through his own stubborn journey into a creative career, he realized that at the root of his dreams of superstardom lay the groundwork for what he truly wanted, and how it was already within his grasp. No blockbusters necessary. American writer and video producer based in Paris, France. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Still watching Jay’s videos even after a successful first trip to Paris. Of course, they just make me want to return. That said, what I appreciate most is the art and care he puts into the videos and the personality and philosophy that come through.

Very appreciative of this additional history from Jay. As a 54 year old that still doesn’t know what he wants to do when he grows up this hit home. Thank you Jay. Hoping to be able to buy you a drink in Paris one of these days

Extraordinary! I have watched your KZfaq vlogs from time to time over the years, but I have found it difficult to do that on a continuum because I felt at times you remind me so much of myself. This Ted Talk is one of the finest “vlogs” you have ever presented, I believe. It’s difficult to believe that you are same person who does the other You Tube vlogs. So calm. So much good news. A person so in touch with himself. A different voice, not the almost manic man searching. Inspirational. I’m stunned. What can I say? Thank you very much. 0:01

I've been following Jay for years, out of that experience, I've relived some parts of my youth, encountered some philosophical questions and seen so much of paris that I would have missed otherwise. My dream is to catch up to Jay in the Space Invader hunt!

This was a delight to watch, Jay. I think you have a unique voice, and over the years, I have really enjoyed you sharing "your Paris" and your story. I appreciate that you talk about your craft, your world view and your "why", your family, your friends (some of whom I recognize in the audience here) and self care and discovery, along with of course talking about Paris. Congratulations that you can now add "Tedx Talk" to your list of many accomplishments.

Wonderful message. And a beacon to many, including myself. In reality and in all seriousness, we ARE making it already. Don’t let anyone tell us we aren’t.

Jay was Ernest Hemingway in a past life. Not kidding. But that's a great story for another time.
