I hear so many people appreciate his music here. But people didn't pay money for his music back then. And maybe today too. People only talk...

I have always liked this tune in F minor. Lennie became disillusioned with the commercialization of Jazz. He was way ahead of his time and never appreciated. I knew a couple of his students in Brooklyn. They were very good too. I am a fan of his concepts in music.

I like the sound of piano in its purest form... no digital or computer effects. We can argue who's the best piano player that ever was. But that would be hard to do because they are all the Greatest in their own right. And one thing we All can Agree on is that; we like the sound of Piano. So let's just stick with that. Thank You!!

All these years of listening to this genius play and this is the first time I have actually seen him perform, here on You Tube. Lennie is hands down the best for creativity and originality. Critics be damned.

Come on guys, Lennie's a genius, the best of the best. But why all the Bill Evans bashing? Bill definitely checked out Lennie, and he played a ton of hip shit all the time. Both pianists are among the best ever; tasteful, satisfying, intellectual, and all-around beautiful.

My piano teacher studied under him for a while and said "he almost killed me" by what he wanted him to practice and master. Also stressed how much good stuff was available to discover in the low range of the keyboard.

I love this guy's music and I can't believe audiences and critics at the time couldn't handle it. Art Tatum also left a lot of people scratching their heads.

I’ve heard that cliche for most of my life that when jazz musicians of a certain caliber improvise during solos they essentially are composing on the spot. Well I’ve never bought into the premise. But for me Tristano was the exception. He doesn’t simply resort to chord substitution to enhance his lines. He instead seems to make a concerted effort to reimagine these standard tunes so that they take on a completely different tonal and harmonic character. And that ain’t easy to pull off.

How could one say such a rude thing? Bill Evans is absolutly fantastic as is Lennie. You can't overrate a giant cat like Evans. They just got both different conceptions of music.
@paranoidjones9 жыл бұрын
even in a place like this we have to have flame wars over who's greater Bill or Lennie? Can't we just enjoy the music for what it is? They're both incredibly important and influential in the jazz canon. Just because they both play piano doesn't mean each wasn't their own person with there own artistic interests. People please stop stating your personal preference as if a matter of fact. Sure Lennie's lines were incredible, but did he ever interact with a rhythm section the way Bill did with Scotty and Paul?

He absolutely did. His work with Konitz and Marsh are a testament. I don't think he liked getting as high on drugs as Bill did. Evans did some great work when he was high.

The irony is that your comment epitomizes creating a war between Bill and Lennie. It wasn’t an argument until you made it one, and then you even subtly knock Lennie at the end of your comment! If you think Lennie is incapable of interaction with a rhythm section, you REALLY need to go back to class and study music a lot more. Bill would play so rushed and on top of the beat the more high on cocaine he was, sometimes he’d be practically over the beat. Lennie provides an elite example of how to lay back on a tempo with impeccable swing feel right here in this video. 1:25 - 1:45. The notion that somebody with swing feel like that can’t interact with a rhythm section is a bit absurd. I guess to be fair, Lennie did believe the priority of a rhythm section should be principally to provide a solid foundation rather than to principally be freely improvising. But so do I
