I agree you don't need it but I think the level of understanding that it unlocks is crazy. You dont necessarily need to be able to sight read, but using music to understand chords/ scales etc is important IF you actually want to know what youre playing. Like you said though, if you just wanna play your favorite songs, dont bother. I will say though, a lot of my students have an easier time understanding strumming patters if they learn to count them. You dont seem like someone who would say this but this makes me think of the guys who say "theory kills your feel"

I agree with you. Like I mentioned in the vid, it’s beneficial to learn it. This video is mostly pointed towards every day people who want to strum a few songs, or learn a few riffs. Not those who are keen to go neck deep. But again there are pros who just do what they do. The idea is that sign reading shouldn’t stop them from starting or just keep playing. Is “Theory kills your feel” guy Tosin?😂
