461 was a great cultivator. Easy on, easy off with a narrow front end. Remember my dad pulling it off to feed cattle in the evenings.

Great video! My brother still has the 39 Farmall H with the 2 row front mount cultivator that was used back in the 50's and 60's on our Dad's farm. He has restored the tractor, cultivator, 14" two bottom drag plows that came with the tractor when purchased and he also has the number 45 baler that was used back in the day.

I love that you have that to mount on the tractor. The implements are hard to find for the tractors. Most people don't know what or how the older tractors we're used with the equipment. Thanks for the video.

Grandad had a two-row like this on a ‘48 M. My brother and I helped mount it a few times. Good bit of work to get it on and off. I drove the M working his small retirement corn field, but never operated it with the cultivator attached. Miss the old M.

Spent many hours on an M. and a SUPER M cultivating corn and Sowbeans with a front mount. I remember when a shank would come loose and you would have to walk the field looking 4 it because you didn't want to cut a tire or worry about it going in the combine or picker in the fall. Lots of good remedies Thanks

Cross-checking corn was the primary method of weed control in the Midwest/North Central states before chemicals came into use on the farm (Atrazine, early 1960s). If not cross-checked the weeds between plants in the corn row cut the yield by absorbing water and nutrients. Some farmers tolerated that rather than deal with the check wire. In any event, before use of chemicals corn fields was cultivated 3 sometimes 4 times after the corn plant emerged to control weeds. I spent many days on a cultivator of this type mounted on a Farmall Super H working corn and soybean fields in Chippewa county, Minnesota, in the early 1960's.

I see the big crank handle cultivator wrench is hanging on this cultivator. We had a 4 row front-mounted cultivator similar to this one, mounted on a Farmall tricycle front 450 TA gas, with 3 SCV control levers on the right side of the console. Pull the TA (Torque Amplifier) back, maybe raise the engine speed some to improve the hydraulics and you could do point rows like a master, if you had your game face on. The power steering really helped when you had extra weight on the front of a tractor that already was nose heavy.

i worked at a nursery as a kid and they had an early 1950's Ford that looked so much like a Farmall that everyone walked up to it and said "nice Farmall" even though it said ford right on the front but it was shaped just like this one with the same grill and painted blue i think...it had several attachments including a front loader bucket that i think may have been retro fitted from another tractor

My dad's old M Farmall had a row crop cultivator like this one. Our "M" had the narrow front like this tractor does. I cultivated potato's with it when I was 13 years old.. You could cultivate about 10-15 acres on a good day is all.

Explain how you plant corn like this. Hills 4 inches apart in every direction?
@douglasadamson2046

I guess that was 4 plants per hill and the distance between is not noted
@Sodbusterrod
@Sodbusterrod 4 жыл бұрын
The corn planter had a reel that held a heavy wire with knots every 36 inches on the wire. The wire ran between spring loaded forks that caught on the knots. When the knots tripped the forks it caused the seeds to be released in hills of 3 or 4 seeds every 36 inches. At the end of the field the wire which was anchored to a stake was move over 36 inches to start the next row. The result was a field of corn with 36in. between all the hills in all directions allowing the corn to be cultivated in any direction- north to south, east to west or even diagonally.

Farmall, sometimes you don't see any. Sometimes you seen a bunch of them all lined up on an Old Farm. Great tractors. "Iron American Dream" on KZfaq. A song about America. Iron is what allowed America to happen. Plows. Steam engines. Weapons. Buy a Harley and see America. America's still out there.

Young farmers today may laugh at this technology. But remember that back in the 1950's, it was machinery like the Farmalls that made American ag the most productive in the world. Lots of countries were still using mules and horses for farming.
