It think our relationship with our parents drastically changes once we let them step down from the pedestal on which we put them, and allow them to be flawed human beings. that's how as a girl, we learn to let go of the legacy of low self-esteem that our mothers gave us as emotional inheritence. once you understand that her approach to your body image was a combination of her insecurities and her desperate attempt to shield you from it, it gives you permission to let go those damaging thoughts. you don't have to carry her insecurities in your bones until they become yours. you can let go

I really try to get this across to my 18 year old son; That I am human at the end of the day, I'm scare, I cry when I think I've failed and I need acceptance and praise from him as he needs it from me.

Hang in there. I think that at 18, I was still looking up to my parents as superhuman perfect beings. and I know for sure that this is is the reason why we argued a lot, because I kept holding them to impossible standards and didn't even think I could hurt their feelings. please find some comfort in the fact that I eventually got it, and hopefully your son will too.

I’m almost 45. My youngest is almost 18. It’s so hard because you think that you’re doing the right thing and then your kids come to you and tell you how it hurt them. It’s the worst. We only want the best for our kids. There’s no manual for parenting. 💕💐

Love these two! It's almost like seeing some weird form of internet friends/rolemodels on the screen....seeing them grow and finally get the exposure after so many years of great work makes me really happy. I can honestly say that these two women shaped who I am today :)

I think that a lot of mothers have felt more of a pressure to help their daughters mold their bodies and themselves, in order to be acceptable, in order to be good enough, in order to deserve love.... and yet all of those mothers want their daughters to have a concept of how much they are worth and how much they deserve. Let us with this generation ladies, teach our daughters to love and appreciate themselves from the start and right through :)

Loved this so much!! I have an idea.. what if you guys did an entire episode of the two people speaking in their own language? like Spanish or French or you know whatever they speak just to hear them speak would be amazing! then add the words to the bottom of the screen so people understand of course haha. I know it a lot of work but I feel like it would be cool, just a thought :)

I don't know how (I didn't read the caption) but from the moment this video started I knew it was the mother/daughter duo from StyleLikeU. This is mad trippy. StyleLikeU and The Skin Deep are my life and have changed the core of who I am as a person. From the relationship I have with myself (StyleLikeU) and the relationships I have with others (The Skin Deep). Honestly can't thank all the people involved enough for the amazing work you're doing. I hope both projects get enough funding to continue the tough work of challenging mindsets and promoting all kinds of love. I write this with all the love in the world, from South Africa

The mother seems like she's tough, but there's love, and I respect that. Maybe because that's how I grew up. Now that I'm a parent, I see how being one is not for the weak or selfish. Toughest job I ever had, but I love it.

I love this project however I don't understand why you're doing this. With only 84k subscribers it will be pratically impossible to raise 200k so why are you shutting down The Skin Deep if you don't reach that goal? These are my favourite videos to watch on youtube! It would be a shame to lose them over a naive purpose. I'm sorry if I sound too harsh

See but it's not ! I thought the same, that 200k was too steep, but to put things in perspective if every subscriber donated $2 the project would be funded! So the goal is actually VERY attainable. And for example if you donated $10 instead of just 2 then we'd reach the goal even faster because one subscriber would be doing the work of five! 14 whole days left we can do thisssss

I'm sure a lot of people think like me, others might be minors who can't donate, others might not have a credit card. I hope they achieve their goal, I just find it excessive for the amount of followers they have

At The Skin Deep, we do everything we do with our hearts first, and what feels right moving forward. We know there is a value, importance, & responsibility that goes along with sharing these stories, and going global was the natural next step in order to encompass the very, very wide spectrum of human relationships around the world.
