Liked and subscribed!! After a time I decided to have a go myself at doing same here, shocking what can be found on people's mowers. Mainly at the moment am doing repairs for others at moment but ££££££££ rolling in!! Many thanks to you for getting myself into this!! Smashing video! I love tinkering with anything with small engines and had a Mountfield SP-184 given by a mate, He hit the edge of a kerbstone and smashed the blade boss!, I've ordered a new one for slightly over nine quid off fleabay, It starts up everytime on the second pull!!

Did this for a job around 30 years ago and still love doing the odd one now. We used to use feeler gauges for the coil air gap but your way is as good 👍

Nice job Martin! It's as if the previous bloke took all the fixings off and promptly chucked them in the bin! I've never seen one with so many bodge screws. Looking at that coil I was wondering if you'd ever tried seeing if shrink-fit tube fitted to the HT cable might hold back the spark? I know you'd have to remake the plug cap, but it might save a coil. These often get chewed by mice.

Good video, on the bright side, the blade is in balance, pull cord isn’t vibrating. But you do new cord. I prefer a #4 (4/32) myself for homeowner models. Though , I just got a 100’ spool of 4.5 from Amazon for $13.52 to the door. I’d rather have it than drive 14miles back and forth , even if they only charge 25 cents a foot. Time is money!!!

taking the plug lead of if working on one is one of the biggest safety things you can do..i had a mower(yes i also have followed martin and made some money from them..and mowerman too)that i serviced and all i did was pull the starter cord slowly to put it back in the holder on the handle and the bugger started up !..talk about easy start lol

I use my physician's business card to set the coil/flywheel gap. Still not sure if I should tell her but she's a pretty good sport and might just get a kick out of it. Perhaps I'll refrain if she has a needle in her hand, however! By the way Martin; haven't heard the Quirky Dog lately. I like that tune!

It's nice to see the deck in such good condition, so it's just the easy stuff to sort out which is the enjoyable bit. It should make you a few quid with minimal outlay. Btw, do you know what's happened to Paul (Mower Man)...he accepted the lawnmower challenge last year and then nothing?

I like the design of those older decks, more so than the ones we have here in the U.S. really. I have extra engines on-hand that I have pulled from prior trash runs just for the purpose of using them for spare parts, as you mentioned in the video. Without them, buying them individually brand new would nick and dime me to death, thus making for a much more expensive repair, and thus not really worth it for resale value. Along with my comment on the older decks, the ones you have where you are seem to have a higher stance than ones we have over here. What is the vertical shaft length one of those B&S engines? It appears to be longer than what I'm used to, or does it have an adapter on it to compensate for the deck height?
