Up there with the best of modern directors. And, if it hadn't been for Blade Runner, Mother! would have been my favourite film of the year. Ambitious, brave, in-your-face filmmaking, the likes of which we rarely see hit the mainstream. My only qualm is knowing that the Marvel-chugging mainstream audience's misunderstanding of Mother! may have killed Aranofsky's chances of continuing to make arthouse films released to a wider audience.

If you didn't understand the point/message of A Clockwork Orange I really need to ask "Where you even watching the film?", it's questioning whether changing a man by force can happen, and if so, should it happen. The priest Alex befriends points this clearly by insisting that because of him being forced to be repulsed of violence he doesn't have the moral choice of rejecting it.

I feel like Noah is his weakest movie because it failed to translate the message of human disaster, it felt more like a blockbuster than a complex character/moral study and also the actors did an awful job, but in Mother! he did it very well, giving a deeper sense with a more minimalistic approach. Just looking through the imdb reviews for some of his movies like Noah (imdb rating:5.8) and mother!(imdb rating:6.6)........and wow. People get so mad when they don’t understand. Like these people are giving those amazing movies(subjective to a point sure) a 1 out of 10 calling them garbage and waste of film. From those reviews we can conclude that anything slightly layered or complicated or profound is likely to float over a large number of heads and result in lack of appreciation or even hatred.
