As a Canadian who just discovered papa Herrera I appreciate the kind words, looked into getting into guns a few years ago when I was 18 and the gun choices weren't great and more and more keep getting banned it's just not worth paying the government to own a high powered air gun at this point.

While I absolutely love the parachute analogy, I feel like it is much closer to being like wearing a seatbelt. Neither are really much of a burden to have protecting you. Both CAN be a slight burden until you get used to them. You won't need them like 99.9% of the time, but that 0.1% of the time that you do need them then you better be prepared or you could easily end up winning the room-temperature challenge. Bonus that comparing concealed carry to a seatbelt is easy for the sheep to comprehend. Everyone knows what a seatbelt is for and everyone knows it is extremely rare you will actually NEED it, but they all already understand that if you want to be safe then you still put on your seatbelt JUST IN CASE. Even the argument that you could accidentally shoot yourself fits well with the fact that there is a small chance that a seatbelt could trap you in a car and leave you unable to escape imminent death (drowning or fire mainly), yet "they" wouldn't ever say not to wear a seatbelt because the benefits FAR outweigh that tiny risk. It's so simple even a democrat can understand it, though don't expect them to admit it. In my experience it just makes them mad while their brain melts and then they come up with a convenient excuse to run away. Double win, no triple win.

The problem with gun control in Canada is that most gun owners live in rural areas where there's more wilderness for hunting. Northern Ontario is the perfect example here. The whole of the North is represented by about 10 representatives, 20 tops. The whole province has 120 elected representatives. Where as the larger cities are given far more representation in the House of Commons. People in cities seem to think that gun control laws helps keep guns out of criminal hands.

I hunt Kangaroos in Australia with a Lee Enfield .303-22 and you have to be careful because it's such a powerful soft point round that anything inside of about ~50-60m can actually cause explosive exit wounds. I’m from Canada. I just got my firearms license after paying an absurd amount in courses and licensing fees, waiting 6 months for the privilege to purchase. Just to have that taken from me in a heartbeat really upsetting as I am 18 and I’m finally legally allowed to possess firearms. This is just a slap in the face and makes no sense as legal gun owners just don’t commit crimes at a high enough rate to warrant such legislation to be implemented.

Living in Canada, let me outline how bad this law is. It's already enough that it restricts ownership of actual guns enough, especially with how restrictive it is already. These confusing laws and regulations around firearms is enough to make the ATF go red in cheeks. But, even beyond that, there is a wide range of effects this has. The fact that it includes look-alike and toy guns without any specification on what a toy gun can or cannot look like poses a terrifying problem. Of course, little David can't have his Nerf Jolt pistol or get one from dad because it would now count as an illegal firearm transfer. Think about the Canadian film industry. It's already in the dumps, but this law will make it a whole lot worse. Replica firearms and more still fall under this law. While they will be banned initially, we may see a future where every single extra has to go through a difficult firearms license process just so he can be Bad Guy #3819 in the new movie. Whether or not it's forever banned or heavily restricted on movie sets makes no difference. The only thing that can be filmed on Canadian soil with prop weapons is now medieval fantasy movies and sci-fi movies. In otherwords, this has more than just local effects to the Canadian gun community, but will devastate other industries. I still find it funny that no-one uses Australia as an example of gun control, maybe because there is still gun violence here even though we have some of the strictest gun laws in the world. We need the people in power to understand that although any law abiding citizen can't or won't get a firearm the criminals always will and there is no sure way of eliminating gun violence.
