Silva is used to keeping possession and breaking down low blocks. He does it almost every week. The tactics are completely different with his national team. Foden has a similar issue. That being said, most of the big name players haven’t produced much yet. They will all do better

Ronaldo had so much attention on him, it left the Portuguese wingers in 1v1 but they wouldn’t take them on apart from leao early on, which worked really well.

Foden and silva are not wingers, they are attacking mids. When they are used as wingers they are ineffective because they don't have explosive speed to get by defenders. Their 1v1 is none existent which is why the cut inside vs go down the line to get crosses. They are only good when used in the midfield. The coach should have used jota as the lone striker and leao and joao Felix as wingers. Let vitinha, silva and Bruno Fernandes run the midfield.

Portugal’s biggest issue is they need to provide quicker and much more decisive service into the box. Far too many touches from Silva, Leao, and Cancelo out wide. It allows the opposition to reset and face away from goal instead of defending facing toward their own goal.

I don't think it was the tactics. They were amazing for the most part. But moving forward is where I feel it was lacking. And the problem wasn't Ronaldo. Some of those players made basic mistakes in attack. Just watch the match again and you will see instances where players made great runs and Bruno would raise his hand and pass sideways. And as for other players...they always stand with their backs to goal. And for the life of me I don't know why they pass so close to the defenders. After they switched Leao I noticed a little more progression. Because Leao has amazing talent but he makes bad decisions.

Croatia played an open game against Spain they not a team that will sit back and defend 90mins. Scotland were just organizationally pure they just couldn't defend and had a stage fright. On the other had Czechia was stubborn an very organized and defended with 11 men. They were resilient and told themselves they will not attack the whole first half and will just frustrate Portugal as much as possible. And it worked for a large period of time. It was a blessing in disguise for them to score first because it then meant Portugal had to up the tempo a because their game was too slow allowing Czechia time to take good positions defensively.
