That might of been the most professional pitch I've ever seen. And despite his numbers being poor in their opinion, his knowledge of the numbers in general was excellent. Well done guy
@jbird4478
@jbird4478 3 жыл бұрын
His number aren't very good, but I think it's far more impressive to keep a business like that successful for 10 years than it is to strike a lucky one and cash a million in a year on some tech startup.
@Tyshkevich
@Tyshkevich 3 жыл бұрын
His numbers honestly weren't THAT bad. He was making 2-300k a year. 40% of 2-300k, she'll get her money back within a few years if they do nothing at all. If they expand and grow they easily hit that 600k mark yearly. Especially if she negotiates the lower cost of goods and payroll. That instantly and extra 100k+ in the bank. Better to own a chunk like that in a stable settled business than take a risk at something who knows how will end. She got a STEAL.
@Michael-ju7xu
@Michael-ju7xu 2 жыл бұрын
@@Tyshkevich if we assume they hold it at $200k-250 per year, that's 80-100k return to her equity, or 12-16% annual ROI. That's really quite good

There’s a guy close to where i live that makes and sells chocolate. He said he makes 15000 chocolates in a week and he works all alone too. He has to get 1000 chocolates ready everyday because some people travel there by boat just to try the chocolate. It was mind-blowing to hear that he does all of that ALONE. He also makes chocolate that tastes exactly like some foods. He took the ingredients/flavours of a cinnamon roll and made it into chocolate and it tasted EXACTLY like a cinnamon roll

I think it’s insane that on some businesses, the sharks are like “mm I don’t like the valuation (or smth like that) so instead of 20% I want 40%.” But then here they’re like “oh woah you want me to take 40%?? So you just don’t care about the business???” Make it make sense
@frenlyneybur7544
@frenlyneybur7544 3 жыл бұрын
At the end of the day, the sharks are risking their own money. Sometimes they don't have good reasons to reject candidates, so they just make up fake reasons. Like when you get rejected from job interviews, they say "we chose someone who was better suited the role" when you suited it perfectly
@TronKyLam
@TronKyLam 3 жыл бұрын
@Dyanosis I agree with you. Plus, it is the fact that you do not see deals like this quite often when people actually give you that much control of the company, so it is absolutely reasonable that the sharks, as the ones who are taking the money out of their pockets, have to clearly understand what the story is.

An honest entrepreneur with a very good and potentially great business. I feel if he started at 20% stake for the same amount of money, more sharks would have been compelled to offer and negotiate the stake up to 40% 😃. There would have been a sense of achievement for the sharks without the uncomfortable lecture of reminding him that he is a minority shareholder now. In the end, a good deal for both.
