This foot work is true fundamental for golf swing. A few talk about it, but you are the only person who shed light on it. I have tendency to have too much weight on my toes of rear foot in backswing and too much weight on my toes of front foot in downswing and follow through. I don't feel smooth swing. Definitely I will try and get feeling at garage, golf course and range are closed now in Ontario. Appreciate put it up.

By far the best tuition channel I’ve come across wish I’d found earlier I’ve working on some swing changes this winter and have struggled with some movements and almost abandoned trying to improve........but Russell explains and demonstrates movements I find easy to understand and replicate.....I’ve watched tons of pros on you tube but Russell for me is by a mile the best .....good work Russell and keep it going

Great drills. I have been working on my weight shift and have been doing it the wrong way. Started doing it in my garage and it works much easier and better. Taking drill to our club today, to practice, quite sure it will take time to incorporate into in my swing. Thanks for all of your drills, my handicap is going down. Bob, Myrtle Beach, SC.

Russell thank you - your detailed insight has given me the answer to my latest swing problem and now when I warm up I’m looking for that right heel pressure going back and left foot pressure earlier in the down swing - certainly improved my consistency and smash factor. You are a great coach!

Great video. The most insightful piece is the right toe to left heel. My only question is you said several times you need to slide to back leg as you are turning your hips. I've always been told not to slide or rock back, that it should just be your hips turning. Can you provide your thoughts on this? Thank you!

I agree about the importance of good footwork . If you don't get the weight shift right you are probably not going have much power through the ball.

This is such a difficult move Russell...for me at least. I have ingrained bad weight shift into my swing for years now, and getting that right toe--to--left heel swing is a mark of a good swing. Hardly ever do you see a bad swing with great weight shift. Thanks for the excellent lesson.

Your explanations are very easy to follow thanks for that! Are you shifting your weight on a 50-75 yard wedge shot or are u keeping it more centered or even favoring the left side ? been having a problem with this and didn't understand it - from behind on video it showed I am too balanced and end up with a half right sole on show and left toe in ground showing the spikes on that heel after the shot. It looks like I am too far away from the ball after impact (logically) and falling slightly forward but I feel balanced. Thanks for the clear explanation Russell, hero. Range opens at 12 tomorrow and after watching this it has stopped a visit to shanksville - and we all know where that leads ;-)

Hi Russell. When I do actually get to do that sort of closed hip bump to my lead side, I feel very shut off from the target and "heavy" over my lead leg, and then really struggle to rotate around to face the target out of that position.....not sure why. You go on to say that we should feel all this weight on your lead thigh/leg/foot, which is fine, but then, as you come down into impact, you feel your weight (re)distribute between trail toe and lead heel (most of my pressure feels in the right toe). Do you really mean then that we should go from feeling a lot/most of our pressure in our lead thigh/leg in transition to most of it being in our trail toes close to impact? Weight/pressure moving back from lead side to trail side through impact? I doubt you mean this but its a bit confusing and I'm just trying to understand. Thanks so much for all the work you put into helping us.

Also, how can you rotate your lead hip out of the way properly if most of your weight is on it. Surely the rotation of the left hip must begin with a more or less unweighted lead leg?
@daves7141
@daves7141 5 жыл бұрын
It's the pulling up of the lead hip that puts the weight on the heel... if you haven't rotated properly you can't get the pressure on that left heel...that why it's so important to focus on where your weight is throughout the swing

Many golf instruction videos (some from renowned coaches) speak about holding onto the external rotation of the trail knee as the lead hip and knee rotate away towards target at the start of the downswing (a sort of squat where momentarily your knees are separating from each other as your hips square up to the ball target line) You do not mention this. Is this a move you do not subscribe to?
