I love this message. I got my first software job during the Great Recession of 2008. That first job is always the hardest! You can do it, and don’t give up.

You truly go through the ringer emotionally when you apply for jobs. Perseverance is important, but dont forget to keep improving your portfolio, resume and skills too. Dont give up but also dont keep sending the same stuff out expecting a different result!

Props for bringing up the topic of "luck". Not just in job hunting, but life in general, luck plays a part of being at the right place at the right time. It's common for people to beat around the bush and try to play the whole "I made it on my own". For sure there are some people who are like that, but I'm willing to bet all of us have had luck and help. Whether it's getting a referral, resume check, mock interviews, etc. Shit, we all know nepotism is a real thing. I know plenty of people who ended up with a job easily just because of a family member or a family friend. Not to mention people in management, but that's another story.

Not gonna lie. I think i gave up. I graduated with a cs degree a bit ago now, and no job. The whole process feels degrading and soul crushing. I dont mind coding when i do it. I even have a mediocre react/web dev portfolio. but man, doing it for a job now seems like so much hoop jumping, unnecessary stress, and uptightness. And thats if you get the job. The whole time you look for a job feels like youre running on a hamster wheel with no idea when its going to end. Maybe if some groovy laid back start up hits me up looking for my professionally unexperienced ass, then my hopes and dreams for this industry would be rekindled. 😂 Until then, I guess im just lost.

Hey KC - Very interesting that you found a change in mindset at 25. I started the same time you did (late Jan 2017) and found my mindset changed a lot at about the same mark of 25. Different change to you obviously because we lead different lives but yeah... an element of seriousness and followthrough that I lacked a but prior to that.

Software engineering market will be destroyed by AI. Developers are already so much more productive with things like GBT-4. Imagine in 5-10 years. Lots of devs will be changing careers in the next decade.

@Aly_._ I haven't bought it but it depends. If you need it for professional stuff then yea it's probably worth it since it's apparently very superior to 3. If you'll just use it as an everyday search engine then just use 3.
