Looking for Spanish listening practice but don't know where to start? I've got you. Listen to me tell the story of one of my trips to Mexico City, and do your best to understand the whole thing as if it were a fluent conversation in real life. Then, I will break down the story and dive into the grammatical concepts and vocabulary I used, and you can see how well you understood this entertaining Spanish listening practice example. This lesson is great comprehensible input, and I know you'll enjoy it... so, can you understand this story in Spanish?
Thank you for watching, you're awesome :) New videos every Saturday.
👋 Hola, I'm Nate. I used to not know any Spanish at all, and I had no interest in learning the language. I thought learning Spanish would be boring, a waste of time, and would provide no value to my life. Then I started taking Spanish classes in high school and everything changed for me. I struggled with learning the language a lot at first, but thanks to my teachers and my Spanish speaking friends, they helped make the learning process fun. Within a few months, I had gotten to a conversational level, but more important, I had become a more confident person. The real win for me, though, was the friendships I made and strengthened. I discovered that not only did I have higher self esteem, but being out in the real world with people, whether old friends or new ones I met, made me feel more alive and connected with the world around me. Now it's my goal to create videos that make you smile and inspire you to learn Spanish or another language!

I am the same, I understood everything and don’t really consider myself “Fluent” I seem to constantly test at a B1. I guess he has a somewhat low standard for fluency. I think B2 seems to be the least you should test to be considered fluent. Obviously that isn’t everything but I think you should be able to understand people at real speed while they annunciate like natives (AKA not annunciating well at all) also you should be aware of local idioms. I honestly think this is nice to help people feel good about their progress but “fluent” is a bit of a stretch in my opinion.

Sure it doesn't mean you're fluent. But, what it does show to a lot of us, is that actually, we know enough to hear and understand a short story. Which is awesome. I'm A2 right now, I'm in Peru right now and it's easier said than done learning by absorption. I've been learning about a year on and off and taking a couple of weeks of lessons here to up my ability... it's a journey isn't it and we'll never know as much as we do in our native language. But he told us all about his relationship forming in relatively simple form. Cool. I walked out of my lessons this week because I was saturated and felt like I didn't know anything. This was actually a positive video for me. So thanks dude. I'll reattack classes week after next, Cusco etc next week :).

I understood 85-90%. Sort of fluent? I don't think so. I asked a guy a question in Spanish today. His words came out so quickly that I caught maybe ten of fifty. I didn't understand so I couldn't reply. If what he said was written, I would have easily understood. At the pace you used in this video, I would have easily understood him. I won't consider myself fluent until I can understand what is said to me, regardless of how well I read and speak Spanish. Liked the video!

I also have issues with native speakers, esp if they are older because I think there's an accent that's slightly different & w/faster rhythms? Oh & the worst is the blending of the words... Blending of the end of one word into the beginning of the next? Nate's not really doing that at all here (which of course is nice for us learners!)

This describes my Spanish to a T, and I even taught high school spanish years ago! I don't think there's anything wrong with asking someone to repeat themselves either, saying something like "Perdon, pero mi espanol no es perfecto. Puedes repetirlo mas despacio, por favor?" Or something to that affect. I also taught hispanic students english for years and years, and I found that most of them (both kids and adults) LOVED it when I attempted to speak to them in Spanish, even if I butchered it.

I understood everything. I have been watching a lot of videos in Spanish... and even series on Nextflix. This story is easy and the narration is slow. It was easy to understand... but I have not started speaking yet. So definitely not fluent!!! I am probably A2 for understanding... but maybe A0 for speaking. Well... I guess I have to start focussing on speaking. 🙂

I understood most of your cute story about sightseeing with a girl you met in a conference and ultimately moving to Mexico to deepen your relationship with her, but I'm still not as fluent as I want to be. I'm intermediate (B1) at best, and my gringo accent was so pronounced that an elderly Spanish woman couldn't understand me when I offered to help her just yesterday. Fortunately, my Ecuadorian friend understands me easily enough. If you were a native Spanish speaker from the Caribbean who didn't enunciate every word in between long pauses, then I'd have some trouble.

I totally understood everything you said, but if I had to say all that myself as if that was my story, I would not know how to constuct the sentences properly like you did. What skill am I lacking in this case? So I understand what I hear and read in proper Spanish but can't generate my own proper sentences in Spanish. So what do i need to work on? Thanks, and glad you found the love of your life.

I understood like maybe 95% of it. I can understand quite a lot in written or if spoken very clearly like this by now, but i don't consider myself fluent at all. Because I still can't make proper sentences on my own without looking up verbs and tenses and just random grammar stuff like all the time. I just feel like i'm never gonna be able to express myself properly without aid because it seems like i can never remember all the different verbs and tenses to a degree where i have a solid base to confidently build upon. Basically, understanding is so much easier than expressing yourself. I need that solid base of the language to have something to build upon, like what a child has, but i just can't seem to acquire it
