Am I the Jerk?

I'm allergic to fish/seafood. It's not the anaphylactic type of allergy, thank goodness, so I'm not going to die if I eat some but I do throw up, have a stomach ache and a massive headache for a few hours. Enough fish/seafood and I break out in small red hives over my arms.
My mother didn't believe it and as a child, I couldn't stand up to her properly. She'd force me to eat stuff with seafood or fish in it to prove I wasn't allergic, then ignore me as I was sick.
One day, she held a dinner party.

1. my brother was allergic to wheat and breadwhen he was a child! so he got a rash whenever eating it… 2. I have a friend who is allergic to over 6 things, in the food we were all fed last year it contained mustard seeds, one of his allergies. so, because he is severely allergic he had to go home within the hour. so everyone, all 25 others of us, were questioning his disappearance. his came back the next morning fine. having allergies as a kid is horrible! carrots are delicious lol

What's worse, when it comes to this, is in MOST cases, for some reason, when a kid says they are allergic, the Parents don't just make them keep eating it, they try to force it on them, or even put that stuff more in their food PURPOSEFULLY, just to "prove that they aren't allergic". Some people are sick, man.

But somehow I’m allergic to a specific brand of body wash despite my father uses it, and not knowing if my mother is allergic to it. How I learned I was allergic to the specific body wash… my father used it on me multiple times (I was at the age where it was normal for my parents to bathe me when it happened), and I always broke out with a rash Edit: It wasn’t a rash as I found out. Okay, for that last story, the lady was totally in the right to have the truck towed. It was on her property, she'd given multiple clear warnings, and tried to be nice. They were taking advantage because they mistook her shut-in nature for her being a pushover. The only thing that confused me is- why was she constantly taking her kid(s) to the hospital? What she described just sounded like a bad cold. Is this a rich joke I'm too poor to understand?

For the first story, unfortunately, the thing about her mom's reputation as an Asian mother is a thing. I'm half Asian and I've seen on my dad's side of the family how reputation for Asian families in their communities is a big deal. It can sometimes cause serious friction in families when a member makes a mistake and that family member can become ostracized for ruining the family's reputation.

Yeah I heard that too. I am from very mixed brazilian family, from parents who came from hard situations. My dad came from extreme poverty, so he wanted a child who never would go through what he did. And mom came from an abusive family, so wanted a child to be the opposite as a parent. Although mom did some abusive things by being too controling, codependent and overprotective, she always was a good mom. But her family was like that crazy family aswell. I saw ky grandparents treating my mom like shit, and they mistreated my dad too. So I do believe these things happen. Is a Shame the reputation of asian families is not just a misconception. What a toxic family culture..

In the story about the 'neighbors parking in the single mother's garage' - give that mother a reward, or praise, or something because she is someone we all should be and need in our lives! She stood her ground when the family didn't listen, she made sure to take, save, and collect evidence of what the family was doing, and through all that bullshit, she still took her kid to medical emergency and made sure her family was safe and healthy (even if she started to get sick herself, up towards the end). God bless her and the ones who put people like the "neighbors" in their place. It already felt like justice was served at the end of the story.

Im lactose intolerant, and in my case the doctors and teachers never considered that I was lactose intolerant, and it was my mother who had the idea. In elementary school it was so bad that I had to be picked up from school at least once a week. The teachers always said it was a reaction to stress, even though I did pretty well in school and didn't have any problems outside of school either, and the doctors either claimed it was stress or some disease, which again was weird because I was sick every week. Eventually my mother looked up the symptoms and came across lactose intolerance, and after some experimenting with my diet I was, and still am, almost never sick.

I actually did something like this with my parents. I was severely lactose intolerant and would have issues with different milk products (I throw up anytime I drink milk, and everything else gives me very bad gas). The worst part about this is the fact that I had always had issues and even had to switch formulas as a baby all because of not being able to stomach it. However, my parents always argued that I outgrew it then called me dramatic whenever I would throw up the milk. One day, when I got older, I was tired of my parents making me drink milk because it felt terrible coming up that, when my parents made me drink milk at church, I purposely threw up on the carpet in the hallway outside the sanctuary in front of the entire congregation. Let's just say that my parents grounded me for a week for the stunt, but my parents never made me drink milk again.

I don't have any food allergies and I've never been a fussy eater. But this story reminds me of something that happened to me when I was 11 years old. My family went to an expensive restaurant for a meal. My mother, who was a very controlling parent, ordered a fish meal for me. At that age I was rarely given my choice of meals, I had to eat what I was given, even in a restaurant situation where all the adults are ordering from the menu. Like I said, I am not a fussy eater, I will eat fish when it is put in front of me, but if given my own choice I would not order it. I started eating and I knew immediately something was wrong. The fish tasted strange, and not in a good way. I told my mother it tasted strange and I didn't want to eat it. Her reply was, "We paid good money for this food and you ARE going to eat it!" So like a good little boy I shut up and ate the whole d-n thing. After lunch we were walking around and I started feeling very ill. Eventually I stopped on the footpath and had a cataclysmic vomiting attack. I don't remember much of the next 24 hours. Apparently I was carried back to our hotel room and a doctor was called. It was a very bad bout of food poisoning. My mother never apologised or acknowledged that I was right, and in recent years she even denies it ever happened.

For the first story, I went through something like that when I was little. I lived with my grandparents at the time and I was put on ADHD meds (even though I didn't actually have ADHD) so as a side effect I didn't have an appetite and it got so bad that I looked like a walking skeleton. My grandma would try to make eat and as fast as I can and in the mornings she would make me eat scrambled eggs. Everytime I would eat these eggs I would throw up. Not because the eggs were bad but because I would take forever to force them down but they would be cold and slimy. Well one day I was told to eat the eggs again and I told my grandma that I was just going to throw them up. She said eat them anyway, and I did and we went to the grocery store, and sure enough I felt like I was gonna throw up while we were in one of the food isles. I told my grandma that I was gonna throw up but she said "oh shut up, you're fine". Seconds later I threw up all the eggs I had that morning on the isles floor. My grandma was completely embarrassed and disgusted and said to me " now you have to eat it". Hearing that and looking at the vomit made me want to throw up again. (I didn't eat the throw up in the end) We left in a hurry after paying for groceries and when we got home she said I was grounded for embarrassing her at the store even tho I warned her I was gonna throw the eggs up if I ate them. Idk, maybe I'm just being dramatic

My father was like the first story. Even though, he witnessed me having gone hospital, due to eat seafood and diagnosis and have test result for multiple allergies as well. He probably thought it would be fine after several years or something. I thought so too. But, I don't want to take a chance. You see, when allergic happened, apparently, my neck had swollen so bad, I couldn't breathe. I got sent to emergency room. I was in hospital for a week. I had to wear oxygen mask to breathe properly and stay in the bed in separate room from other people with cloak around bed, like I may spread deadly virus or something. Despite that happened, my father kept mixing seafood every chance he thought I let my guard down and later, reveal that I ate sea food. Luckily, few bits of them won't cause allergic to surface. It was probably why he insisted to make me eaten seafood to _win_ allergic. He didn't want me to retake the test, since it was expensive at the time. He had stopped doing that now. But, yeah, after several attempts of his for years, I always keep my guard up. He probably meant well. But, no. I don't want to hear that.

First story reminded me multiple stories that I had. I can't drink milk.Just pure milk, but I love cheese, yogurt and other dairy. And no one, including my grandma, believed me,when I was a kid. My parents told that to "teachers" in kindergarten, told that to my grandma,to anyone who could feed me. Kindergarten:Made me drink milk and I threw up,so they had to clean it. Grandma:I threw up and she had to clean it. Neighbours:Convinced me that I will be okay after drinking "natural" milk and I drank it.I threw up and she had to clean it. Positive sides:No one made me drink milk ever again.People started to believe that I can't drink milk. Also,my parents love trying to feed me with fish and they know that I can't eat it either, but they say that "it's my imagination" and that "it's in my head/mindset". After eating/drinking fish/milk I usually throw up pretty soon after(like 10 seconds at most),but parents won't give up on giving me fish. Most recent story happened when I was at my cousen's birthday a couple of days ago and they served meat. They refused to tell me what it was,but I could taste fish.I could see it in mom's smug and happy eyes. They mentioned fish.I knew it was fish.Forced myself to eat some, but at some point I just couldn't anymore,so I gave up and mom was upset. Don't get it wrong,it happens rarely and only with some fish that is difficult to tell that it's fish, mom tries to trick me into eating fish. At least they are not being dicks about it and try to restrain themselves from doing that too often and it might happen once...In more than 5 years, but there were like 3-4 tries already and only one of them was successful, because I was a kid and mom gave me fish right after giving me meat, making it look like it was just another piece of meat

I was allergic to pork for the longest time and tested this and ate it slowly over time always got sick but after a few weeks I wasn't getting sick anymore and could enjoy it for the first time in years.

Little story of mine: when I was younger I used to some food back then that I dislike now. One of those instances was broccoli, every single time I ate broccoli I would get nauseous. I wasn’t allergic or anything but it always tasted so bad even if a chugged down a entire cup of water for each piece. It took forever to convince my father that me eating broccoli makes me nauseous.

That first one, I have a very sensitive stomach, despite my size, and can only eat small amounts. I've never been able to eat what anyone would consider "normal" amounts of food due to gastric issues. Which is fine, small portions are cheaper anyhow. My grandma, on my dad's side of the family, would put out huge breakfasts that would daunt an ADULT appetite, much less a kid's, and expect people to eat every single scrap she puts in front of them. Of course, I couldn't eat that much, so I would only eat as much as I could, which wasn't much. So she would grab me, grab the utensils, and start trying to force-feed me screaming at me that I was just "lying about being full because I didn't like eating." Of course, I would then proceed to get very sick to my stomach, and she'd drag me outside, beat the crap out of me for it, then call my parents and scream at them about how I was being crude and rude and deliberately forcing myself to throw up because "She doesn't like eating, what kind of brat are you raising??" Needless to say, my parents didn't have her babysit very often.

In response to the first one, I don't think I have any significant allergies, mainly when it comes to food, but I am asthmatic an as a child something used to happen quite often, I was never allowed to get out of my house without one of my parents, and as a teenager I'm still not allowed to do so, but as a kid, when I was like 11, my relationship with my mother began to get even worse than it was before, a lot of stuff happened for that feeling to grow and etc- But whenever we got out of our house to go to the center of the city or wherever we would walk a lot around, and it was pretty tiring and sometimes it even got hard to breathe because of that (She is fully aware of that thing I have and at the time it got worse), one of these times she made me follow her around for like an hour and I was walking really slowly at that point and it was really crowded, I tried to call her out to tell her to go back but she was too far away to hear me and I didn't have enough breath to shout- Yeahh I didn't have an asthma attack or anything but I was only able to catch my breath after like 5 minutes after getting in her car, after that we fought and she gave up on staying with me that day and she left me at my father's house

I found out when Igot the flu shot for the first and only time I ever got it. My are swelled. My sister in law, a Doctor was the one who told me "Oh your allergic to eggs." after a long conversation and some self reflection, I realized she was right. So I listen to my children when they tell me a food item makes them feel sick or gives them really bad hedaches and try to avoid them in the future. First story: Seafood allergy is commonly allergy to crustaceans. Allergy to actual fish is very rare. Also, you don't vomit right away from allergies. It takes a few minutes to feel nausea and vomit. The kid probably just found fish gross and thew up because of that. And most certainly there would be other signs of allergy if the kid was actually allergic.

The same general thing happened to me like the first story with your parents not believing an allergy. I have a chicken allergy, which my parents NEVER believed. Then one day to prove me wrong my dad had me take an allergy test. The only foods I’m allergic to are chicken and turkey. These are not very common allergies, and not even the person who gave me the test believed it. So the moral of the story is to trust your kids when they say something makes them feel very bad

i hate when people force children to eat things. even outside of allergies, there are other reasons why kids might not want or cant eat something. while i dont think im allergic to mushrooms, they make me very ill whenever i eat them or something cooked with mushrooms, i cant just pick them out. thankfully my parents have always respected this, and my mum doesn't even cook mushrooms for herself when im home since im also sensitive to the smell. however, i was in respite for most of my childhood, so every so often (for example every weekend or every other weekend) i would stay with a foster family. my mum would tell said families about the fact i couldn't eat mushrooms, but the mother of one family i stayed at decided to not care. she made cream of mushroom soup, and forced me to eat it. like, wouldn't let me leave the table til i ate it. i sat there til the soup was cold, coagulated, and had a skin on top and was sobbing the entire time. it was such a horrible experience and i eventually ended up eating it because i had been sitting there for so long. i think i was around 7 at the time. this same mother also forced me to eat bell peppers, which while less bad than mushrooms, are still something that make me sick. whyd she make me eat the bell pepper? to convince her own child (who was younger than me) that it was tasty and that they should eat it. i dont understand how people can do this sort of thing and think theyre in the right.

For the first story, I’m lactose intolerant myself, and luckily my mom is too, and I would never lie about allergies. I can have things like ice cream or yogurt, but pure milk has too much lactose for my body to handle and I get a stomach ache and diarrhea shortly after. But with things that are actually considered allergies by the majority of the medical community, I don’t have any food allergies, just aloe vera, and it causes me to break out into hives and be really itchy. My mom is the same with this, and it’s been medically diagnosed. But it’s just so sad that parents don’t believe their kids, I mean I get it, kids lie, but you should still take an allergy test to be sure. Anyway, sorry for the long comment. Love these videos, especially the ones that involve Karen’s and legal trouble.

I think having the truck towed was ABSOLUTELY the right thing to do. If she had just gone and had them move it again, they would keep doing it as the worst they could expect is the inconvenience of having to go move it when she comes to complain. After having to pay to get it back from the tow service though, I doubt they will EVER park in or anywhere near her driveway again as they don't want that to happen any more.

It took me ingesting a ton of walnuts in pesto and nearly dying from not being able to breathe to finally convince them that I am in fact allergic to nuts. I still haven't forgiven them internally for it and they act as if "none of us knew" even though I had been telling them for 15 years.

To be fair to the mother in the first story, it's not unheard of for kids to _think_ that they're allergic to foods and exaggerate side effects, while the parents believe it's attributed to something else entirely. When I was 5 or 6, I had blueberry pancakes for the first time and threw it back up an hour later. For the longest time afterward, I was convinced that I was allergic to blueberries and would always throw up like what this OP said they experienced with fish. Thankfully my parents never forced me to eat anything with blueberries, and after trying some later on in my teens, I realized I had no problem with them and felt a little silly. I don't think the mom in this story was being an entitled prick, I think she was just accusing her kid of being a kid.

2:28 I just developed lactose intolerance and my parent and siblings dont believe me. Growing up, I never had any allergies to any food, and always loved drinking milk. Last year though, I started throwing up and getting unwell after consuming even a glass of milk. I told my family ASAP of course, but they said I was just "Telling my body to do so because we had a talk about my sibling's lactose intolerance just the day before, and wanted to fit in" It was a terrible coincidence that I did take into consideration but figured I couldn't just keep it a secret since my family usually has cereal for breakfast almost everyday for all my life. I stopped drinking normal cow milk (after my parent finally took me seriously about the situation and tried different brands of cow milk) and found out that I dont react to almond milk. At the beginning of the transaction, I was teased by my sibling who gave up milk altogether after finding out themselves that they were lactose intolerant almost 3 years ago, and I really hated the taste of AlMoNd MilK, but now I'm okay with the once alien taste of it. My siblings stopped teasing me and tried it out themselves and their expressions seconds after having some was priceless... I do miss the OG milk that I grew up with, and I'm afraid that me drinking almond milk will effect relationships for being too weird or such, but whatever. Milk is one thing I wont let go so easily.

For the Driveway Story, if the neighbor does decide to sue then OP does have a viable countersuit. OP could sue for criminal trespass since she gave the neighbor a very clear warning stating that she would have him towed if the vehicle was on her property, and ignoring that would mean they trespassed on her property.

For that last story, it sounds so similar to a situation going on in my neighborhood. We recently moved to a smaller city than where I grew up. My folks had just signed on the house and we’re going to do a walkthrough to verify measurements on windows for drapes and room sizes for painting. They didn’t even get into the front door when the man at the end of street (3 houses down from us - we live on a cul-de-sac type street) came up and was like “so you’re the one that’s going to take my driveway away from me”. This man liked to park in the driveway that was down by our basement since it was close to his house. My dad was like “well starting today it’s our driveway and my truck isn’t sitting on the street” (think of this as dry humor). This man is goes on about how the neighborhood we moved into is his neighborhood and he can pretty much do anything he wants. He now has bought another truck (making 3 trucks, a van and a car) for a driveway that fits 4 sedan cars comfortably. He started to park one of his trucks in our neighbors’ driveway and had the audacity to tell the girlfriend of the homeowner that he wasn’t going to move his truck and if she needed to park her vehicle on the street. Needless to say, she blocks him in with her vehicle and he has to go get her to move it (but still pairs his vehicle in their driveway).

For the last story, at least where im from w/ this knowledge from my retired/current cop family members, the father could get an additional trespassing charge for sitting in front of the door for the extra time after the mom had expressed that she wanted them to leave. After that both the father and son could be charged with harassment for how they treated her at the door, and then the continuos banging on/ringing the door. And finally charged for filing a false police report since the police forces are stretched thin and the theft report would waste valuable time and resources.

We never figured out why but I went through this period as a child where I would cough up a lot of food. I wouldn’t say “throw up” really because I don’t think the food ever made it to my stomach. It would make it about halfway down my throat then do a 180 back up and out the way it came in. My mom and dad didn’t believe me at first but in their defense when all this started it was mainly foods I didn’t like and I did have a history as a picky eater so they had good reason to be skeptical. Later I started coughing up pizza too. Mom and knew pizza was my favorite food in the world so that was the moment of “oh crap! Something really is wrong! I had trouble with milk too but only in the cafeteria. At home it stayed down. It might’ve been the brand… I don’t know! 🤷🏼‍♂️ Pediatricians couldn’t find anything wrong and at some point before Middle School it stopped happening. We never figured it out.
