Hard work pays off - this is most certainly a true statement. But hard work at the cost of rest and sleep? That is NOT the way to go at all. Often times people feel like they need to optimize their life by cutting out sleep so they can get more work in. This is not a good idea. While training in the gym is necessary to see gains - the real growth happens when you rest. Muscle tissue rebuilds bigger and stronger than ever and cutting even a few hours off of your sleep schedule can cause some serious damage. Not only to your gains but your overall health as well.
This kind of talk is often seen as a joke - pushed aside and scoffed at as fluff talk. But the reality is that sleep and rest are paramount for a successful physique. Get the full details and straight facts from Jerry Brainum in our latest episode above!

I kind of regarded sleep as a waste of time. But when I get regular sleep for a whole week, my creativity and memory improves as well as my concentration for at least 70%. Its not just about the gains.

There's plenty of facts that base growth must have enough sleep. I agree, however people are not still sleeping enough, the younger generation thinks 6 hours is enough? It depends on each individual, and how hard your training is! If I get 9 hours of sleep, I'm happy and feel refreshed! I usually get at least 8 hours minimal, and I can take a nap in the day, I'm an early riser because I usually sleep earlier than most.

I physically cant sleep more then 6 hours. Id say 6-7 years MAX, then my body is like refusing to sleep. I can feel the mattress digging into me, my back hurts if I lay flat for longer then 7 hours and my mind is just awake after 6-7 hours. I say 6-7 but Iam sure I sleep more closer to 5-6.

Can someone explain to me why I feel my best when I get 5-6 hours of sleep.. And feel much more tired if I get 8-9 hours? I get the same quality of sleep no matter how long.. But the longer I sleep, the more tired and groggy I am in the morning.. It seems counterintuitive

I believe you release adrenaline when you wake up if you sleep less. This is so, as you are less rested, your reflexes are not hindered (keeping in mind our ancestors used to be torn apart by animals and each other). So as much as you may feel groggy when you wake up, over the entire day you should feel much better.
@jacobradden
@jacobradden 7 жыл бұрын
Craigh Almeida your answer is very interesting, I will note I average 7 hours of sleep, and that seems to be my bodies happy place in terms of sleep. I haven't eliminated all the variables that could contribute either way. So, perhaps as Jerry mentioned, I am deceiving myself.
@stephen3511

Jakey Jake optimum sleep comes in 1.5 hour intervals. So 6 hours, 7.5 hours or 9 hours sleep are the best options.

+Jerry Brainum serious question but are you aware that the Channel that your videos are being shown on is using other people's youtube videos and posting them on their website as if these vids are theirs with NO CREDIT. Some friendly advice, go back to your own channel, separate yourself from them - the channel you are associated with now has a really bad reputation that will eventually rub off on you. I have nothing to gain in saying this just think you should make a move. Peace.

Can we stop putting an arbitrary number on sleep please? Quality > quantity, when it comes to sleep. You even basically said yourself, the later stages of NREM sleep and all stages of REM sleep are what are responsible for repairing the body and providing energy to the brain and body. 5-6 hours of good, deep sleep with plenty of time spent in stage 3 & 4 and REM sleep is far superior to 8 hours of sleep in which you didn't sleep deeply for the most of the night, maybe the temperature wasn't very good so you had disturbed sleep, even if you weren't conscious of this happening as you just slept lightly for most of the night. If you feel good and refreshed upon waking, you probably had enough sleep to maximise your gains and maintain your health.

Jerry Brainum I already know the answer to this question? Without a doubt💯💪 If you were to choose between working out and sleeping less I mean 5 hours or get 7 to 9 hours of sleep but do absolutely no working out whatsoever.Theres 3 retired guys in my building who do just that . The person who lives next room over decides he has run out of money in Chicago like myself except that is the only thing in common the city . Even in prison so I hear one hour a day out of the cell.This hermit doesn't even do that much. He's built like a 🍐.

How about some form of fat an hour or two before going to sleep. .I do everything i shouldn't mainly the hours i work and overtime hours. .On one of my days off 48oz of Hostess Twinkie ice cream.

Point is, 7 hours+ is neither a necessary nor sufficient condition for muscle growth. Sure, natty's will make marginally better gains if they sleep an additional hour, but it's not as big a deal as the video makes it out to be.
@trenholland1372
@trenholland1372 7 жыл бұрын
Taking tren and drol right now. You're shooting yourself in the foot if you get less sleep. Remember, Steroids are an amplification of the gains you would normally make. Not something that will create a set amount of muscle no matter what you do.
@OMH1314
@OMH1314 7 жыл бұрын
"Steroids are an amplification of the gains you would normally make" Nice Bro-science there, too bad multiple studies have shown that steroids cause gains in muscle mass without any exercise or special diet.
@trenholland1372
@trenholland1372 7 жыл бұрын
How is that not an amplification? None of these studies involve someone sitting on a couch eating potato chips all day. Once you are in an extreme anabolic state, it's perfectly normal to put on a pound or 2 over the course of 12 weeks pertaining to a normal lifestyle.
