This scene tears me up every time I see it . Madam Cheng was belittling Niao Niao for who she was but you are the one who made her that way by not taking care of her yourselves. Everyone sees a different side of Niao Niao then her parents 😢

Since she met Niaoniao she turn a guilty as failed mother agaisnt Nianiao only see her in a bad way and encoraging only Yanyang ! All she say front all those people make Niaoniao impossible to marry someone in the future ! How possible a family could want her as DIL when her mother say she wouldn't !! I really hate her mother for a long time in the serie Contrary to her Lisheng saw how much her words hurt Niaoniao and the Empress too adding the Empress saw her in the pure and naive Niaoniao

Her mother would have been upset even if Yuan had proposed marriage because of his high status; remember what she said when Naio Naio was engaged to Lou Yao. She said that Naio Naio's marriage to the scholarly Lou family would make it more difficult to get Yang Yang an even higher status marriage now. It was important to get Yang Yang a higher status marriage because the Ge family would think the Cheng's were favoring their own daughter. ☹️

其实她家人不是不让她嫁人，因为身份原因，凌不疑是大将军又是文帝义子，她阿母知道以嫋嫋大喇喇的性格又不懂宫中规矩不懂礼仪，在那个年代在宫里是很容易出事的还会说她没家教，就算有凌不疑为她撑腰也不能24小时在她身边保护她，其实她阿母不让她嫁是在保护她，因为她阿母知道宫中险恶所以有所顾虑。就像她要嫁楼垚她阿母又没有把她贬得一文不值，只因为凌不疑的身份不简单不是说嫁就嫁，要考虑很多东西，搞不好容易连累全家，一个细节就可以看出来了，她阿父阿母看她坐在前面都快吓死了，何况嫁过去不得每天心惊胆跳。

Honestly folks besides the arrowing removing scene, and the empress's bday and the day after fiasco, this is my other favorite scene. General Ling claims his life mate and heaven, hell, the royals, nor in laws will stop him. He is hell bound to grab her and never let go. Niao Niao is stunned because she's never known this type of love before and it's frightening for her but she's willing to gamble on him as he is the only one who believes in her and honestly is devoted to her. It's a tear jerker and deserves a box of kleenex and a bowl of popcirn to watch. I'm in awe every time i see it. The fact that the royals actually like her for just being her and that Ling Buyi is so in love with her is enough for them to welcome her. The royal couple are giddy to see Ling Buyi so besotted and happy for once. He is normally annoyed with fenales so this girl is special. The writers, cast, and crew should be congratulated. Niao Niao is a role model for not being weak but silently strong. She is cunning, smart, brave, quiet, loving, and so much more. There needs to ve a part 2 to show this whole family with their kids and everyone in battle armor. Niao Niao is just like Mulan. Breaking stereotypes and the mold that they try to put her in. Kudos for a great role model for women. She is a valkyre in chinese armor!

@jaybizman8594 I honestly stand by my comment. Zao Lusi did a wonderful job. I'd this role, and so did Wu Li. It's breathtaking to see them together and how they interact with each other. Niao Niao is just a caterpillar waiting to become that iron butterfly she was meant to be. She is underappreciated and underestimated by everyone except the royals and General Ling. They are waiting with baited breath to see her emerge as the bada$$. she was meant to be. They know she comes from excellent stock and has a warrior heart. She was forged in fire and steel, and it's a joy to see her fighting with her heart and hands. She is the best of the best, and Ling Buyi's heart and soul are bought and held in her hands. I'm glad this character exists to remind us that no matter how low we feel in our lives, we too can reach these heights and be better for ourselves and the world will never be the same.

The second piece of music playing in the background pairs extremely well with the Chinese music being played in the original series. It made it sound almost etherial. It made the whole thing feel like it was from a whole different world. The talent of these amazing actors/actresses brought it all together. I swear, these Chinese dramas are way better than the dramas available in the USA. Even though I can't understand a single strand of Chinese, I still like watching them.

The males in the family are better to our heroine than the females. Grandma is a selfish greedy gluttonous old bat, Aunt is downright evil, Mom's way of dealing with her guilt over abandoning her baby has been to turn her self-loathing into dislike of the child she feels guilty about; the female cousin is kind but seeing her mother giving a niece the affection she herself is craving clearly hurts Niao Niao deeply. On the flip side her brothers already love her and her father is gentle and forgiving -- when his wife isn't looking.

There are times NN wants to break up with him. Buyi using all tricks that made NN cant say a thing, she is a smart n brave teenagers and did many brat things that buyi know... 😊 and he using those to get her

Guilt, in my opinion. They know they didn't do right by her at birth, maybe they didn't realize at that time just how[ bad it would be, but for 15 yrs they didn't check on her either. And cowardice for not truly accepting their responsibility to correct her situation. Fortunately she has the Empress to guide her to become the woman she needs to be later She may be unruly and uneducated, but neither is she a bully like the 2 princesses I mean 3 princesses and Wang Ling

They don't want their daughter to be involved with the Palace and all its BS, The parents talked about it earlier in the drama, saying how that the Palace was much much worst in comparison with NN ex fiance (which was also bad), they had to give an excuse for rejecting the proposal without getting the whole family killed.

It’s because NN’s parents want her to live quietly and happily away from politics and the palace. Like the other quiet guy who NN was engaged with first. That, and because they are scared of Ling Buyi too. They thought he was too stiff. With NN’s temperament and stubborness, they think it won’t be a good match and just would always clash.

Even to keep their daughter out of potentially deadly palace politics, there had to be a better way than what Madam Cheng chose, to belittle her own child publicly in front of not just the royal family but all the members of high society listening in the side rooms. The harsh half-truths and full lies spewed by her own mother would have pretty much guaranteed that no man better than an illiterate inbred ignoramus pig farmer would ever be willing to look at Niao Niao twice let alone offer honorable marriage. Seriously, Madam had just doomed her daughter to either becoming a nun, or is she was very lucky she might have become a low-ranking concubine to some minor official or merchant dealing in Army supplies. I also caught Madam Cheng stating that her daughter would be likely to cause problems **that would bring down the whole family**. The palace is a place of strict etiquette and formality which is bound to make Niao niao break rules and can be imprisoned or punished. Although she is kind and smart, she is unruly and does not obey commands which her mother tried to teach and failed, so her mother is scared NN will be trouble for herself and the whole family. @@mskoki5712 what the mother was incapable of dowing the empress did in such a short time. The empress made sure to teach Niao the rules. Because of her gentle and generous nature the empress become the maternal figure that the young teenager needed so much. It's no wander that Niao loved the empress and respected her far more than her mother.
